Abstract

The spread of Islam in the archipelago took place gradually and involved various important figures, including Sheikh Abdus Salam or Datuk Landak. A cleric from Malaysia who settled in Timbang Lawan Village, Langkat Regency in the 15th century AD. He played an important role in inviting the local community to embrace Islam through a spiritual approach and the Naqshbandiyah order. This study began with the following problems: (1) how did Islam enter Timbang Lawan Village, (2) what was the role of Sheikh Abdussalam in spreading Islam in the area, and (3) what are his legacies and influences on the religious life of the local community. The purpose of this study is to answer the third question through a qualitative descriptive historical and sociological approach. The methods used include observation, interviews, literature studies and documentation of secondary sources in this study including journals and books that support this research. This research is expected to contribute to scientific studies of local Islamic history in Indonesia. The results of the study show that the people of Timbang Lawan Village greatly appreciate the cultural heritage left by Sheikh Abdussalam, such as the tomb of the Sheikh himself. Until now, the local people still greatly appreciate his legacy.

Abstract

This study examines the development and initiatives of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah in Medan City from 2016 to 2023, highlighting its significant role in the region's social and religious dynamics. Employing historical research methods, including heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation at the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) office. Findings reveal significant progress in Nasyiatul Aisyiyah's activities, with regular events despite challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to temporary disruptions. Nonetheless, the organization remained active in disaster relief efforts, fundraising, and mask distribution. Plans for 2022-2023 include resuming programs and introducing new initiatives such as parenting classes, disaster response, leadership training, international symposiums, PASHMINA, and TOT entrepreneurship. The study explores the contributions and growth trajectory of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah in fostering community welfare and religious education, employing qualitative methodologies, including interviews and organizational document analysis. The research identifies challenges such as resource limitations and sociopolitical constraints but highlights the organization's adaptive strategies and community-centric approach in overcoming obstacles and advancing its mission. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of women’s organizations in regional development and offers insights into the potential for similar initiatives in other contexts.

Abstract

The legend of Meriam Puntung is a significant part of the oral tradition among the Malay community, serving as both a historical narrative and a medium for collective memory construction. This study explores how the legend has been transmitted across generations, its role in shaping historical consciousness, and the extent to which it reflects the identity of the Malay people. Using Jan Vansina’s oral tradition theory and Paul Connerton’s theory of collective memory, this research examines the dynamics of storytelling, the transformation of the narrative over time, and its function in preserving historical knowledge. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with cultural figures, textual analysis of historical sources, and field observations at the Meriam Puntung site. The findings reveal that the legend has undergone adaptations, influenced by sociopolitical changes, while maintaining its core symbolism of resistance and local identity. Furthermore, the study highlights how the site itself serves as a tangible anchor for collective remembrance, reinforcing historical continuity. This research contributes to the discourse on the interrelation between oral tradition and historical consciousness, emphasizing the role of storytelling in shaping collective memory and identity formation within the Malay cultural framework.

Abstract

This study explores the epistemology of Islamic history within the framework of Islamic historiography in North Sumatra through academic research at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and Universitas Negeri Medan. Islamic history in this region is shaped not only by rational and empirical facts but also by intuition, revelation, and local cultural elements such as mentifacts and sociofacts, requiring an integrative epistemological approach to achieve a holistic reconstruction. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical method, the study combines fieldwork and library research. Data were obtained from theses, dissertations, journals, books, and papers, as well as direct observation, interviews, and examinations of manuscripts and historical artifacts. Source verification was conducted through external and internal criticism, recognizing the limitations of purely empirical methods in addressing the transcendental dimensions of Islamic history. Thematic analysis was organized according to regional scope and scholarly orientation, guided by the prophetic social sciences paradigm that prioritizes ethical and spiritual values as reflected in the Qur’an (Q.S. Ali Imran: 110). Findings reveal distinct emphases: UIN focuses on religious studies and scholar biographies,  Universitas Sumatera Utara  highlights socio-cultural dynamics of the Malay community, and  Universitas Negeri Medan  displays thematic diversity shaped by students’ regional backgrounds.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the AIDA-based marketing communication strategy implemented at Sei Mencirim Educational Tourism in increasing visitor interest. This research is motivated by the growing competition among educational tourism destinations and the need for destination managers to communicate attraction values through relevant promotional channels. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the owner, manager, and visitors, supported by field observation and documentation. The data were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the attention stage is built through visual promotion on social media, banners, brochures, and community-based information sharing. The interest stage is supported by educational activities, culinary variety, and family-oriented tourism experiences. The desire stage emerges from visitors’ positive impressions of the atmosphere, service, price suitability, and testimonials from previous visitors. Meanwhile, the action stage is reflected in visitors’ decisions to visit, purchase culinary products, and consider repeat visits. The study concludes that the AIDA model helps explain how marketing communication practices at Sei Mencirim Educational Tourism gradually shape visitor interest. However, the findings are limited to qualitative data, so further studies may include visitor statistics or social media engagement data.
