Abstract

PT Greenfield has always tried to produce milk in accordance with the standards in order to satisfy the consumer, but the fact showed that there were product defects in PT Greenfields. The defects were occurred in handling after the filling process which caused defects in packaging (pack defect). The aim of this research were knowing the factors that cause the pack defect of Greenfields ESL (Extended Self Life) milk and knowing the priority of proposed improvements  which would be used to reduce the number of pack defects of  Greenfields  ESL milk. Data were analyzed using six sigma methods through define, measure, analyze, and improve phase. The research results showed  that the factors caused pack leakage were problems of filling machine, dropping of stacked packs or pack hitting by  forklift, carelessness on stuffing, imprecise in placing cartoons on the pallet, human error/carelessness, flabby paper, and high humidity. Filling machine has the greatest value of RPN Risk Priority Number) of FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis). It  indicates that the priority of improvements was on filling machine. Keywords: Deffect, FMEA, RPN, six sigma

Abstract

The research was aimed at examining the influence of the availability of occupational safety and health factors on the productivity of employees at a particular furniture industry located in Malang town. A survey-type research was conducted employing a pre-determined questionnaire involving five main variables, namely the safety factors, work-place accident coverage, health and rest facilities, health benefits and physical environment of the work-place. Each of which was represented by 3-4 related aspects. As many as 78 employees were taken by means of simple random sampling as respondents. A scale scoring technique introduced by Likert was used to rate the degree of employees’ satisfaction upon the availability of such factors. The productivity of the employees per month was measured by the ratio of the value of output (value in Rupiahs of the sold products) to the input, i.e. total salaries or wages in Rupiahs paid to the employees of the corresponding month. The measurement was conducted in two consecutive months, from March to April 2006. The results showed that the occupational safety and health factors in the studied furniture industry were quite good. The productivity was certainly influenced by such variables. And their relation maybe expressed as Y = 9.494 + 0.379 X1 + 0.249 X2 + 0.571 X3 + 0.239 X4 + 0.284 X5 + e, where Y is the productivity and X1 to X5 are the safety factors, work-place accident coverage, health and rest facilities, health benefits, physical environment of the work-place and e is the degree of error respectively. Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the cleaning process, particularly the manual cleaning in the production of condensed sweetened milk of a particular company. A descriptive method of analysis was used in the study. Aspects evaluated were cleaning time, methods, tools and the cleaning steps. The works were focused on two processing steps, namely filling and squeezeable bottling machines. The SOP of manual cleaning in the filling step was well implemented and the data were fully documented and therefore may be evaluated. The study suggested that some improvement of SOP for manual cleaning was needed, especially on the cleaning of filling machines Ferrum 24 and 28 and for the FMC. It was recommended to schedule and to time the cleaning. It was also necessary to improve the cleaning method and to use Bahasa Indonesia for the SOP. The use of picture or photographs for the SOP of cleaning steps will be very helpful. On the other hand, the SOP of the squeezeable bottling machine was considered to be appropriate enough and therefore no improvement was required. Keywords: evaluation, SOP, cleaning

Abstract

The aim of this research were to forecast a weekly demand of marie biscuit in the next 6 months and to determine the optimal production aggregate planning that minimizes total cost. The planning, made for the period of August 2005 to January 2006, was based on the previous weekly demand in the period from August 2004 until July 2005. The demand of marie biscuit was forecasted using Winters’ for Additive Method that produced the least mean square error and then the demand forecasting was obtained by means of the Minitab for Windows Version 14. A weekly inventory and an aggregate production were planned using the Dynamic Programming approach by means of a computer software which was developed using the Delphi for Windows version 5. The results showed that the highest demand was found in the forth week of January 2006 (2,534 kg ) and the lowest one (2,394 kg) was predicted to occur in the first week of August 2005. The weekly inventory level of the marie biscuit factory was between 185 kg to 225 kg in 24 weeks planning horizon. Overtime works would be necessary if the demand exceed the maximum regular production capacity. However, in case of the demand and the production quantity were lower than that of the regular production capacity, an introduction of undertime cost in the first and third weeks of the planning horizon would reduce the total cost by Rp 73,470 per week. The minimum total cost of the aggregate marie biscuit production planning in 24 weeks planning horizon was Rp 96,602,174.   Key words: aggregate production planning, demand forecasting, Dynamic Programming

Abstract

The research was made to analyze any attributes that influence the decision of buying of solid brem in Madiun town outlets. All attributes that might have been considered in buying decision of solid brem was listed by interviewing its consumers. The most popular brand was eventually used as a product reference. The perceived quality was then determined upon the consumers’ selection on the listed attributes. The respondents were consumers at the outlets in Madiun town, the centre of solid brem produced in Java. The number of respondents, i.e. 80, was determined based on a linear time function. The data collected was then analyzed by means of the Cochran Q Test. Finally, an assessment was made on the performance of attributes of two other brands of solid brem in comparison with the product reference. Amongst the 13 attributes listed influencing consumers in buying of solid brem, only nine of them were considered to be important, namely: the brand, packaging material, ability of packaging material protecting the quality of product, brem colour, expire date, taste, halal warrants, sales (outlets) location and availability of product. Whilst the packaging shape, packaging colour, brem composition and cleanliness were not considered as the important ones. The results indicated that the brand, expired date, and taste were considered to be the prominent attributes. It was obvious that the product reference of solid brem was rated better in these three attributes than the other two competitors.   Key words: consumer perception, product attribute, solid brem
