Abstract

Abstract

Cendono Village is a sugarcane-producing village with sugarcane areas reaching 50% of agricultural land. The distinctive sugarcane products of Cendono Village are green sugarcane juice drinks and green sugarcane syrup, managed and produced by a productive youth group called Yodhatama. The processed products of this productive youth group are manufactured through a third-party manufacturing system at BUMDES Makmur Abadi, Bendosari Village, Blitar. Activities conducted include equipment facilitation, training and assistance in implementing aseptic sterilization and hot filling, product diversification, and process standardization. Diversification of green sugarcane processed products includes cup-packaged sugarcane juice drinks, jelly drinks, and jelly candies. Production training is conducted with equipment facilitation in the form of food dehydrators and cup sealers. Quality control and consistency are achieved through the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Abstract

The industry leather craft faced serious sustainability challenges related to water pollution heavy metal contamination and negative environmental, social and economic impacts. This systematic review aimed to fill the research gap on sustainable supply chain integration in the leather craft industry, which was essential to address sustainability challenges and supported industry transformation. The research aimed to identify enabling factors, analyze benefits, formulate implementation strategies, and analyze the impact of sustainable supply chain implementation on stakeholders in the leather craft industry. A systematic review was conducted by searching the Scopus and Web of Science databases using relevant keywords. Inclusion criteria included English-language articles, original research, and a focus on sustainable supply chains in the leather industry. The quality was assessed using the MMAT checklist. The data were extracted using NVivo and synthesized through clustering citations by meaning. Of the 264 articles identified, 36 studies were included in the review. The results showed a range of enabling factors (e.g., regulation, technology, management, and market), benefits (e.g., efficiency, environment, and competitiveness), implementation strategies (e.g., supplier evaluation, technology, and collaboration), and significant impacts on stakeholders (e.g., companies, workers, suppliers, consumers, government, and society).  Future research was recommended for multi-stakeholder empirical studies, cross-country comparisons and multidisciplinary approaches.

Abstract

This study investigated power imbalances and inefficiencies in the Robusta coffee value chain in Malang Regency, Indonesia, employing an integration of the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) framework and Value Chain Analysis (VCA). As the world’s fourth-largest coffee producer, Indonesia’s sector relied on smallholder farmers, who constituted 98% of producers but faced systemic marginalization. Drawing on survey data from 2,122 smallholder farmers and interviews with 26 traders, the analysis revealed a highly concentrated market structure, with four local collectors controlling 58% of trade and a single exporter dominating 68% of production. Farmers, despite generating 89% of value-added, retained only 50% of the consumer price due to exploitative intermediaries and informal pricing. Socio-demographic challenges, such as an aging workforce (92.5% over 45 years) and gender disparities (8.33% female participation), further hindered innovation and equity. The SCP-VCA integration uniquely exposed how market concentration enabled intermediaries to externalize costs, capturing 45.7% of the consumer price as profit, while farmers bore disproportionate labor. Policy implications emphasized digital transparency tools, farmer cooperatives, and certification subsidies to rebalance power dynamics. Demographic reforms, including youth engagement programs and gender-inclusive governance, were critical to addressing structural vulnerabilities.
