Abstract

This research describes the implementation of nationalism education outside the learning process at MI Bustanul Ulum which is located in the Islamic boarding school of Nurul Islam Laweyan Probolinggo. This research is a qualitative descriptive study and the research subjects are the head of the Madrasah, the teachers for grades IV, V and VI as well as some students from those classes. Researcher collected data using observation, interview and documentation. The result showed first, nationalism education outside the learning process is carried out by habituation, extracurricular activities, and routine activities. The values ​​of nationalism given are responsibility, tolerance, courtesy, willingness to sacrifice, cooperation, mutual cooperation, loving the environment, respecting and appreciating the services of heroes, loving Indonesian culture, and others. Second, the factors supporting the implementation of nationalism education, namely students, parents / family, madrasah and the environment. Third, there are no significant obstacles in the implementation of nationalism education outside of learning.

Abstract

The research is focuses on how the habituation of behavior through good examplary of teacher in the view of Syekh Imam al-Zarnuji, and how are the espousals and obstacles to make the habituation of the students’ behavior through ‘uswatun hasanah’ from the teacher at SMP Al-Ikhlash Lumajang. The research method is qualitative using Grounded Theory, the data collection is using observation, interview and documentation, and the analysis data is using inductive, deductive and descriptive. Based on the data analysis shown that the students’ behavior in perspective of Syekh Al-Zarnuji, it has been mostly impelemented at SMP Al-Ikhlash Lumajang. Firstly, the students’ behavior toward their teachers; they are honor deeply relating to the whole teachers’ thing. Secondly, they are honeor deeply of the knowledges such as make the books are neat in the bookshelves. Thirdly, the competencies of teacher were needed as the figure of uswatun hasanah perspective of Syekh al-Zarnuji has been the characteristics of each teacher at SMP al-Ikhlash Lumajang. The espousal factors of such habitual behavior are the recruitment of quality teachers from Lemdik al-Ikhlash, upgrading teachers, the bahavior has been the characteristic of teachers, adequate facilities, and continuity. While, the obstacles factors such as the input of students were from the various educational background in the beginning of school year.

Abstract

Mental is a vital element of man who must always be kept in power. Mental positive must not be negative because if the negative will be negative throughout his body. In a leader country and people something inherently inseparable. Then both of them must have a mental that is equally positive and synergized to achieve a safe and prosperous country.

Abstract

Slavery is one of the terms written in the Qur'an. Slavery in the discussion of the Qur'an is included in the context of human liberation from oppression. That is, the Qur'an is here to liberate humans from oppression. The portrait presented by the Qur'an is slavery when the Qur'an was revealed to Rasulullah SAW. This study aims to explore the terms of slavery (رقاب/رقبة) contained in the Qur'an. The search was carried out on the book of interpretation by M. Quraish Shihab, Tafsir al-Mishbah. The author uses a descriptive-analytical method with a historical and philosophical approach in this study. This study found that the abolition of slavery written in the Qur'an was not completed. That is, there is a new model of slavery in the period after the Prophet's prophethood and even today. Modern slavery, in the view of M. Quraish Shihab, becomes wider than slavery in the past context. Modern slavery can take the form of slavery in political, economic, social and so on.

Abstract

This research focuses on munasabah, or conformity, in the al-Qur'an. This research uses qualitative methods, and data collection uses documentation. In data analysis, researchers used inductive, deductive, and descriptive analysis. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the Ulama' are divided into two groups in responding to the application of munasabah in the al-Qur'an: those who are pro and those who are against. Pro-Secularists argue that munasabah is very helpful in understanding the Koran. Meanwhile, opposing scholars argue that the verses of the Koran have their own historical context. So, it is not appropriate for munasabah to be applied in all verses of the al-Qur'an.

Abstract

This study explores Muhammad Arkoun’s hermeneutical approach to Qur'anic interpretation, which emphasizes the importance of understanding the Qur'an within its socio-historical context. Arkoun’s critical stance toward traditional Islamic scholarship and his advocacy for a multidisciplinary framework have made significant contributions to modern Qur'anic studies. The study aims to analyze Arkoun’s method, focusing on his use of historical, anthropological, and semiotic-linguistic approaches to reinterpret revelation in a contemporary context. The qualitative methodology employed in this study involves an extensive literature review and contextual analysis of Arkoun’s works, examining his key concepts such as wahyu (revelation), Umm al-Kitab (Mother of the Book), and liqa’ Allah (meeting with God). The findings reveal that Arkoun challenges the static understanding of the Qur'an by promoting a dynamic and adaptable interpretation that responds to modern societal needs. His emphasis on historical contextualization allows for a nuanced understanding of the Qur'an’s ethical and social principles, particularly in addressing issues such as gender equality, human rights, and interfaith dialogue. Arkoun’s semiotic-linguistic approach provides further depth to his analysis by uncovering the symbolic and rhetorical structures within the Qur'an. However, his methodology also faces criticism, particularly from scholars concerned about the potential erosion of the Qur'an’s sacredness and the risk of subjective interpretation. The study concludes that Arkoun’s hermeneutical framework offers a valuable contribution to contemporary Islamic thought by encouraging critical engagement with the Qur'an in ways that promote inclusivity, adaptability, and dialogue between tradition and modernity. His approach underscores the necessity of continuous reinterpretation to keep the Qur'an relevant to evolving ethical, social, and political challenges. The findings suggest that further research could explore the practical applications of Arkoun’s hermeneutics in various contemporary contexts, contributing to the ongoing evolution of Qur'anic interpretation and Islamic studies. Abstract

The limited access to formal education experienced by Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia has had a serious impact on their cognitive and spiritual development. These children often lack basic skills such as reading, writing, and arithmetic (Calistung), and receive minimal religious guidance due to their parents' busy work schedules. This study aims to enhance Calistung skills and cultivate the habit of performing Duha prayer through a service-learning approach conducted collaboratively with the Community Learning Center (PKBM) of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. The subjects consisted of ten first-grade students enrolled in non-formal education. The methods employed included participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, pre-tests and post-tests, and visual documentation. The results showed improvements in the ability to recognize letters, copy names, and perform basic arithmetic operations. The children also began to understand and regularly perform Duha prayer without coercion. This activity demonstrates that service learning can be an effective approach to bridging theory and practice in the field, while also strengthening community engagement in alternative education programs. The main contribution of this initiative lies in the integration of basic literacy development and spiritual character formation as a solution to the educational gap faced by Indonesian migrant children abroad.

Abstract

Tulisan ini hadir untuk menggambarkan pola yang dilakukan oleh alumni pesantren yang berada di daerah rawan konflik agama. Dalam beberapa kasus, alumni-alumni pesantren mampu menemukan solusi atas konflik agama tersebut. Kreatifitas alumni pesantrenlah yang membuat kondisi harmoni agama dapat dilakukan dengan nalar dan pemahaman yang didapat saat di pesantren. Sebagaimana diketahui, pesantren di Indonesia selain mengajarkan kemandirian dan kesederahaan santri, juga diajarkan nilai-nilai Ukhuwah Wathaniyah dan Basyariyah. Dalam konteks ini pula, terdapat kecocokan antara pola harmonisasi konflik agama di India dengan yang dilakukan oleh alumni pesantren di daerah rawan konflik agama. Misalnya dengan melakukan hubungan asosiasi melalui organisasi, atau hubungan everyday forms forms of engagement, yakni dengan melakukan kerjasama bidang ekonomi dan budaya, yang kesemuanya dibangun di atas nilai ukhuwah wathaniyah dan basyariyah. Hal yang sama dilakukan di desa Sidomulyo Kecamatan Pronojiwo Lumajang. Daerah yang memiliki 4 agama dan terdapat harmoni yang cukup tinggi antar pemeluk agama, sekalipun pernah terjadi konflik agama di tahun 1965 dan tahun 2000. Di desa tersebut para santri dapat memainkan peran sebagai katalisator dan agen perubahan sosial masyarakat

Abstract

This research examines the synergy between Tafsir Maqashidi and local wisdom in Senduro Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, in maintaining religious harmony and tolerance. The research object includes Qur'anic verses related to moderation and local wisdom, such as the tradition of gotong royong and deliberation, which support social harmony in the village. The research objective is to understand how Islamic values in maqashid al-shariah can be integrated with local wisdom to create a tolerant society. This research uses a qualitative method with a Maqashidi tafsir approach and content analysis of verses such as QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 256 and QS. Al-Hujurat [49]: 13. The results show that Maqashidi tafsir reinforces the importance of moderation in maintaining harmony, and local wisdom in Senduro acts as a bridge in creating interfaith harmony. In conclusion, the integration between Maqashidi interpretation and local wisdom in Senduro Village is an effective strategy in maintaining social stability and interfaith tolerance
