Abstract

Over the decades, the nudge idea of behavioural economics (BE), disseminated by Thaler & Sunstein (2008) in their well-known book, has generated controversial views among many academics and scientists around the world. As an application area of behavioural economics (BE), nudge theory and the nudge concept has found many supporters, but at the same time has generated controversial views among many academics and scholars around the world, especially with regard to its broad definition, decision-making architectures, and libertarian paternalism concepts. Interestingly, this concept has attracted a lot of attention from key government officials, especially in the UK and the US, to change the behaviour of the population to a significant extent. The aim of this study is to discuss the nudge concept and its application to current situations and also to shed light on the critical views of this concept. It was found that this concept, although it has many critics, is considered a useful tool to change the behaviour of people or customers without using coercive measures to achieve the desired result.

Abstract

Purpose — The existence of agency problems is widely recognized in various academic fields. Nevertheless, as argued by many scholars, agency theory has obvious shortcomings both theoretically and empirically. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the conventional Standard Agency Theory (SAT) and the Behavioral Agency Model (BAM) as a refined framework of an agency model.Method — The methods used for this study were descriptive analysis, involving the review and comparison of the work of Wiseman & Gomez-Mejia (1998) and Pepper & Gore (2015). The technique employed and proposed for this method is to analyze and compare the relevant elements between SAT and BAM.Result — It is found that BAM can provide a better framework for modifying and understanding such agency problems in organizations, particularly in terms of human factors, organization, and information assumptions that are considered to balance the roles of the principal and the agent as actors in the organization.Contribution  — This study contributes to the body of knowledge by refining the old and conventional standard agency theory (SAT) and introducing BAM as a new concept. BAM sheds light not only on the roles of actors and organizations but also on the application of a behavioral economics approach to provide a robust and rigorous method for analyzing "agency problems" in organizations, especially in private business families around the world.

Abstract

When analysing macroeconomic factors using an econometric approach that attempts to determine the successful economic development of countries, such as in the analysis of poverty and gross domestic product (GDP), problems have been repeatedly encountered in considering the variables involved simultaneously. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to use the two-stage least squares (2SLS) method as the best estimator by applying the simultaneous equation model. The objective of this study is to analyse the simultaneous equation model between poverty and GDP in a developing country such as Indonesia. The macroeconomic data sources used for this study are secondary time series data from 1990 to 2017 obtained from Indonesia Statistics Agency, IMF, UNDP and World Bank. The result shows that there is strong evidence that poverty and GDP act simultaneously or endogenously in the model. From the results, it is recommended that in order to achieve higher GDP in the future, the Indonesian government should pay more attention to alleviating poverty rates, reducing unemployment rates, lowering merchandise imports, and improving economic growth in addressing macroeconomic problems in the country.

Abstract

This conceptual and comparative study examines the integration of multicultural values within Islamic Religious Education (PAI) as an essential foundation for fostering inclusive, tolerant, and humanistic education. It aims to explore how the principles of multicultural education in Western thought correspond to and differ from the fundamental Islamic teachings derived from the Qur’an and Hadith. The discussion focuses on the compatibility between Western multicultural values such as equality, pluralism, and social justice and Islamic values of adl (justice), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), and tawassuth (moderation). The study concludes that the integration of multicultural values into Islamic education should be carried out conceptually through curriculum development, pedagogical strategies, and moral exemplarity based on Qur’anic guidance and propethic and practice. This research uses a literature review method through searching national and international scientific journals, books on multicultural education theory, classical and contemporary PAI literature, and academic articles from 2015–2024. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive-comparative approach to identify conceptual similarities and differences between the two perspectives.
