Abstract

Socket preservation is a procedure in the tooth socket by inserting graft material so as to reduce bone and soft tissue loss after tooth extraction. Gold sea cucumber (S.hermanii) extract has been widely studied because it contains many bioactive compo-nents that can accelerate the post-extraction ossification process. Gold sea cucumber extract was made into gel preparations with concentrations of 0.8%, 1.6%, and 3.2%. The experimental animals were randomly divided into 4 groups. Immunohistoche-mical observation to see the increase in RANK-L expression after gel administration on day 14 after tooth extraction of guinea pigs. The mean levels of osteoclasts and RANKL were highest in the control group and lowest in the 3.2% group. The results of the one-way Anova test showed that there were significant differences between the four treatment groups (p<0.05). It was con-cluded that the administration of golden sea cucumber gel extract had an effect on the bone socket formation process. The most effective concentration of 3.2% was used in the process of socket bone formation.

Abstract

Tooth loss and the use of ill-fitting dentures can cause alveolar bone resorption especially in the mandible. This condition compli-cates the fabrication of a removable denture. Suction denture (SD) is an alternative to improve retention and stable support so that the denture can be used for chewing and swallowing. This article discusses the management of flat ridge condition using SD. A 70-year-old woman came to RSGM Hasanuddin University Makassar complaining of difficulty chewing due to the loss of all her teeth. The treatment chosen was SD with neutral zone impression on the lower jaw. It was concluded that SD can cli-nically improve retention and satisfaction, especially in patients with large alveolar bone resorption.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the caries risk profile using the caries risk assessment (CRA) method in children aged 6-8 years in Gowa district with a lower middle economic background. A total of 67 children participated in this study, with a distribution bet-ween male gender 24 people and female gender 43 people. CRA showed that 13.43% of children were in the low risk category, 29.85% moderate risk, and 56.72% high risk. The main risk factors that contribute to increased caries risk include frequency of consumption of sweet foods, lack of fluoride use, poor oral hygiene, and low socioeconomic status. Caries prevalence showed a positive relationship with risk category, where in the high-risk group, 70% of children had at least one tooth with active caries. These results emphasize the importance of risk-based interventions through dental health education programs, increasing access to fluoride, and other caries prevention strategies, especially in groups of children with low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health services are essential for promoting not only physical health but also psychological well-being and patient confidence. Patient satisfaction is a crucial metric of healthcare quality, and the SERVQUAL dimensions—Tangibles, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, and Empathy—serve as a foundation for service evaluation. Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) is an effective method for identifying gaps between patients' expectations and the actual performance of dental services, offering a strategic basis for service improvement. Methods: This systematic review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature was identified through searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using relevant Boolean keywords. A total of 150 articles were initially retrieved. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 eligible studies were analyzed. Data were synthesized based on study focus, key findings, moderating factors, and geographic context. Results: The review revealed significant performance gaps in the dimensions of Responsiveness and Empathy, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia, Iran, and Iraq. Contributing factors included limited resources, cultural communication barriers, and disparities in healthcare access. Tangibles such as facility cleanliness and design were also influential in patient satisfaction. Reliability and Assurance contributed to trust-building, though they showed relatively smaller gaps. Studies from high-resource settings demonstrated better overall balance across SERVQUAL dimensions, highlighting the role of institutional support and training. Conclusion: IPA serves as a powerful diagnostic and strategic tool for evaluating and enhancing the quality of dental and oral health services. By highlighting critical performance gaps—particularly in interpersonal and environmental aspects—IPA supports targeted interventions. The integration of patient-centered care principles with IPA findings can guide resource allocation, improve patient satisfaction, and address systemic inequalities in dental healthcare delivery. This review underscores the need for contextualized quality improvement strategies, especially in low-resource environments.

Abstract

Dental agenesis is the most common congenital abnormality that occurs in permanent teeth. Digital smile design (DSD) is a technology that digitally designs and modifies a patient's smile by creating a digital wax-up (DWU) before treatment begins. This aids visual communication and patient involvement in their own smile design process, thus ensuring predictable treatment out-comes and increasing patient acceptance. This article reports on maxillary anterior rehabilitation with zirconia long-span bridge illustrating aesthetic planning with DSD system and 3D DWU technique. A 21-year-old male came to the Department of Prostho-dontia, Hasanuddin University with complaints of a half-crown fracture of tooth 11 and missing teeth 12, 21, and 22. Radiographs of teeth 12 and 22 were agenesis because there were no seeds and had never been extracted so the smile was not aesthetic. Root canal treatment had previously been performed on teeth 11 and 13 with fibre post. It was concluded that the use of DSD and 3D DWU for the treatment of zirconia long-span bridge is a rehabilitation treatment option for upper edentulous parsialis. This prosthesis improved facial and dental aesthetics, functional occlusion, phonetics, and comfort.
