Abstract

Patient chief complaint: A female aged 48 years came to the Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital, Makassar. She complains difficulty of chewing and a lack of confidence. Patient status: Full edentulous maxillary and edentulous partial mandible. Diagnosis full edentulous maxillary and class 1 Kennedy mandible. Treatment plan: Fabrication of partial metal frame dentures using the altered case impression technique. Detail of therapy: Panoramic Radiological images appear to be missing all teeth in the maxilla, available teeth: 33,32, 31, 41, 42, and 43, residual the roots of teeth 15 and 28. The pre-prosthetic treatment plan was scaling and extracting the remaining roots on teeth 15 and 28. The first prosthodontic treatment is Preliminary impression was made. Subsequently, the diagnostic model is placed on top of the surveyor for inspection and design of the metal frame. Making individual impression upper and lower jaw using self-curing acrylic material, then doing border molding with greenstick. An additional laboratory procedure for altered cast technique is done by splitting the master cast with a saw. A groove or indentation is made on the cut surface of the mold to help retain the cast to be mixed. The denture metal frame is placed over the grooved mold. The final impression was then beading, and boxing made before it was cast with a cast so that an altered cast was obtained. Making bite rims of the maxilla and mandible and determining the alignment, vertical dimensions, using a bite rim made from the final impression, face-bow transfer, and installation on the articulator. Try the arrangement of teeth. Acrylic processing, selective remounting, and grinding. Denture inserted and controlled, checked for occlusion, articulation, retention, and stability. Clinical significance of therapy: Metal frame partial denture with Alter cast impression technique provides better and stable denture.

Abstract

Patient Chief Complaint: A 41-year-old female, came to the Dental Hospital of UNHAS with a chief complaint of difficulty in eating and lack of confidence. Patient Status: Clinical examination shown a complete edentulous in the upper jaw and partial edentulous in the lower jaw. The remaining teeth were 33, 34 and 43. Treatment Plan: Magnetic Attachments were planned on 33 and 43 and metal coping on 34 as retained for mandibular overdenture. Details of Therapy: Pre prosthetic treatment was carried out by root canal treatment on teeth 33, 34 and 43. Primary impression of the maxillary and mandibular arch was made. Magnetic attachments were planned on 33 and 43 and metal coping on 34. The abutment tooth decapitated about the same as the gingival margin. A bevel around the circumference was made. Surface shape of the root tooth was dome-shaped, and the finishing line is shoulderless. Post space impression was made with polyvinyl siloxane. Metal coping for 34 and cast post with keeper magnet for 33 and 43 was fabricated. The metal coping and cast posts metal containing keeper magnet were carefully cemented using glass ionomer cement. Border moulding was done for maxillary and mandibular arch. Occlusal rims were fabricated on final cast. Vertical dimensions and jaw relation was done then face-bow transfer and mounting the rims on the articulator. Try in, then denture was processed and inserted in patient’s mouth. The magnets are placed under the mandibular denture, which is faced the keeper teeth, then polished and checked for comfort, occlusion, and retention. Clinical Significance: Magnetic attachments significantly increase the retention of mandibular overdenture; patient is more satisfied and comfortable. Patient doesn’t experience difficulties in insert and removing the denture because when the denture is slightly shifted, the magnetic attachment returns it to its original position.

Abstract

Prevalensi kehilangan seluruh gigi pada lansia di Indonesia cukup tinggi, khususnya di Kota Makassar. Kehilangan gigi yang tidak disertai dengan penggantian gigi palsu akan menggangu asupan nutrisi yang akan berdampak pada kesehatan secara umum yang pada akhirnya akan mempengaruhi kualitas hidup seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis hubungan penggunaan gigitiruan penuh dengan status gizi dan kualitas hidup pada lansia di Kota Makassar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional. Penentuan lokasi penelitian menggunakan stratified random sampling, yaitu Kecamatan Ujung Tanah, Tamalate, dan Ujung Pandang. Sebanyak 283 lansia usia 60 tahun keatas diperoleh dengan purposive sampling bersedia mengikuti penelitian dengan pernyataan persetujuan. Penentuan status gizi menggunakan IMT sedangkan kualitas hidup yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan rongga mulut diperoleh dengan wawancara menggunakan OHIP-14. Hasil analisis chi square menunjukkan ada hubungan antara penggunaan gigi tiruan penuh dengan status gizi dan kualitas hidup pada lansia yang dilihat pada setiap dimensi OHIP-14 (p≤0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini, yaitu terdapat hubungan penggunaan gigi tiruan penuh dengan status gizi dan kualitas hidup pada lansia di Kota Makassar, sehingga dapat dikatakan penggunaan gigi tiruan penuh pada lansia akan meningkatkan status gizi dan kualitas hidupnya.

Abstract

Bahan pembersih gigi tiruan terbukti efektif mengurangi plak dan organisme mikro pada gigi tiruan. Akan tetapi penggunaan pembersih gigi tiruan dari bahan kimia selain mahal juga dapat menyebabkan kerusakan yang signifikan pada basis gigi tiruan karena pembersih gigi tiruan dapat menyebabkan hilangnya komponen larut dan peliat, atau penyerapan air oleh bahan basis. Berdasarkan hal tersebut penggunaan bahan alami, yaitu biji alpukat, menjadi pembersih alternatif. Pada penelitian eksperimen laboratorium ini menggunakan uji eksperimen dengan teknik disc diffusion. Bahan yang digunakan adalah varietas hijau panjang atau alpukat mentega yang diperoleh di perkebunan Malino, Sulawesi Selatan. Daya hambat diketahui berdasarkan pengukuran diameter zona inhibisi yang terbentuk di sekitar paper disc, dengan menggunakan jangka sorong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa uji daya hambat ekstrak biji alpukat sangat signifikan, yaitu konsentrasi 2% dengan rata-rata 11,51 mm, konsentrasi 4% dengan rata-rata 12,39 mm, konsentrasi 6% dengan rata-rata 13,61 mm, konsentrasi 8% dengan rata-rata 13,53 mm, dan konsentrasi 10% dengan rata-rata daya hambat mencapai 15,02 mm. Luas zona tersebut melewati zona yang dihasilkan oleh Ampicillin sebagai kontrol positif, yaitu 14,22 mm. Disimpulkan bahwa biji alpukat memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang cukup tinggi sehingga berpotensi sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans.

Abstract

Torus palatina merupakan suatu eksostosis jinak pada palatum durum sepanjang sutura palatal yang melibatkan prosesus maksila dan palatina, pertumbuhannya sangat lambat dan dianggap sebagai gambaran anatomi normal. Torus palatina adalah tulang cancellous yang ditutupi oleh tulang kompak dan dilapisi dengan lapisan tipis mukoperiousteum, dapat meluas anteroposterior mencapai ujung papila insisivus dan tepi posterior palatum durum. Penatalaksanaan torus palatina saat membuat gigitiruan sebagian melibatkan pembedahan torus atau konstruksi window pada gigitiruan. Pembedahan torus dapat menyebabkan beberapa komplikasi, akan tetapi torus palatina dapat mempersulit penggunaan gigitiruan rahang atas sehingga pembuatan gigitiruan lepasan menjadi sulit. Dalam kasus ini dilaporkan mengenai pembuatan gigitiruan lepasan sebagian dengan torus palatina pada wanita usia 43 tahun dengan keluhan utama gigitiruan atasnya longgar sehingga minta dibuatkan gigitiruan baru. Pasien dilihat pada hari selanjutnya dan merasa nyaman.

Abstract

Peningkatan prevalensi diabetes melitus telah menjadi masalah kesehatan di masyarakat. Penyakit ini mempengaruhi sebagian besar tubuh manusia termasuk rongga mulut. Perawatan prostodonsia pada penderita diabetes membutuhkan pemahaman tentang penyakit sistemik ini, manifestasi klinik dan mempertimbangkan dampak diabetes pada perawatan gigi. Tujuan artikel ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak buruk diabetes melitus pada rongga mulut dan menekankan faktor-faktor penting yang harus diperhatikan ketika melakukan perawatan prostodonsia pada penderita diabetes.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Hubungan rahang atas dan rahang bawah merupakan hal yang sangat penting dalam pembuatan gigi tiruan. Hingga saat ini, posisi rahang bawah terhadap rahang atas pada bidang vertikal masih menjadi perhatian, khususnya berkaitan dengan perubahan dari jaringan keras dan jaringan lunak pada wajah akibat kehilangan gigi. Ketidakakuratan pengukuran dimensi vertikal (DV) merupakan kesalahan yang bisa berdampak ketidaknyamanan hingga timbul rasa nyeri pada pasien yang direhabilitasi dengan gigi tiruan. Terdapat beberapa metode pengukuran DV yang telah direkomendasikan, antara lain pengukuran langsung pada wajah dan pengukuran tidak langsung dengan menggunakan analisis sefalometri. Metode pengukuran secara langsung pada wajah adalah metode yang paling sering digunakan dan dinilai akurat. Disamping itu, penggunaan foto sefalometri juga dapat digunakan sebagai alat ukur yang akurat untuk menentukan DV. Tujuan: Menjelaskan kepada dokter gigi mengenai tahapan pengukuran DV secara langsung pada wajah dan dengan analisis foto sefalometri sehingga ketidakakuratan dalam pengukuran dapat dihindari. Simpulan: Penentuan DV akan lebih akurat apabila metode pengukuran digabungkan antara pengukuran langsung pada wajah dan menggunakan analisis sefalometri.

Abstract

Objective: This paper aims to determine the use of teledentistry and AI in the elderly to maintain the health of their oral cavity and teeth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Technology in dentistry today is developing very rapidly, improving the quality of dental and oral health services. During the pandemic, the elderly has concerns about Covid-19 contamination when they have to see a dentist. Their situation has led to discussions and efforts to use teledentistry and Artificial intelligence to facilitate services and care for the elderly during the pandemic. Results: Teledentistry is used as a medium for consultation, diagnosis, referral system, treatment, and follow-up. While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used in diagnostic, patient data management, restoration, and CAD/CAM-based denture manufacture, detecting periodontal disease, and dental radiology. Conclusion: Teledentistry and AI can be a promising alternative in dental and oral health services to reduce anxiety and fear of contamination with Covid-19. The technologies make it easier for health workers, especially dentists, to maintain and improve the quality of life of the elderly during the pandemic.

Abstract

Gingivitis is a response to the buildup of bacterial plaque, characterized by symptoms such as bleeding, swelling, redness, and exudate. One of the marine biotas widely found in Indonesia is the golden sea cucumber (Stichopus hermanii), which contains va-rious bioactive components such as proteins, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, EPA, DHA, and flavonoids. This systematic re-view aims to reveal the potential of Stichopus hermanii as a gingivitis inhibitor. The method used follows a systematic review ap-proach, adhering to the guidelines of the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). A total of 8 studies met the eligibility criteria to be included in this systematic review. It is concluded that the use of Stichopus hermanii has the potential to effectively reduce gingivitis.

Abstract

Objective: Overdenture is a denture design that can be made in partial or complete loss of teeth , that has support from teeth and natural tooth roots that are still strong and healthy, and already received adequate endodontic treatment. If the tooth is extracted, the process of alveolar bone resorption will follow and worsen the retention and stability of the denture. One alternative in making complete dentures by retaining the remaining teeth in certain conditions is using an overdenture Methods: A 41 year old female, came to the Dental Hospital of UNHAS with a chief complaint of difficulty in eating and lack of confidence. Clinical examination shown a complete edentulous in the upper jaw and partial edentulous in the lower jaw. The remaining teeth were 33, 34 and 43. Magnetic Attachments were planned on 33 and 43 and metal coping on 34 as retained for mandibular overdenture.Results: Treatment with an overdenture is a good consideration because it is considered to be able to retain teeth in the alveolar process, which will provide better denture support than conventional dentures.Conclusion: Magnetic attachments significantly increase the retention of mandibular overdenture, patient is more satisfied and comfortable. Patient doesn’t experience difficulties in insert and removing the denture because when the denture is slightly shifted, the magnetic attachment returns it to its original position.
