Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the role of parents in managing their kindergarten-aged children's negative emotions. Utilizing a descriptive, qualitative case study approach, the study was conducted in Yogyakarta, involving six parents, six teachers, and three children. Data collection comprised in-depth interviews and non-participant observation, analyzed using an interactive model by Miles et al. (2014). The results revealed that parents act as supporters, teachers, students, counselors, and guardians in their children's emotional development. Case studies of children, namely AD, NK, and AT, highlighted strategies like modeling positive behavior, teaching problem-solving and dynamic management, and providing comfort. Parents should enhance their knowledge and expertise and motivate their children to learn practical negative emotion management skills. Negative emotion management enhances kindergarten children’s well-being and aids in their adjustment to their surroundings. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of a supportive, responsive, and involved parenting approach, particularly in emotional development during early childhood. This aligns with Bandura's observational learning theory and resonates with findings from Hornby and Epstein on parental education and involvement. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including its small sample size and qualitative focus, suggesting the need for further research with broader, more diverse samples and quantitative methods. Overall, this study underscores the significant impact of parental involvement on children's emotional resilience and intelligence, highlighting the need for effective parental guidance programs and enhanced teacher-parent collaboration in early childhood education settings.

Abstract

The implementation of multi-tiered diagnostic tests is crucial for identifying and addressing student misconceptions in primary education. This study systematically reviews the development and application of these diagnostic tools in primary schools from 2019 to 2024. Following the PRISMA protocol, 26 studies were selected from an initial 178 records obtained from the Scopus database. The analysis highlights trends in test development, key content areas, and potential future applications in primary mathematics education. The findings emphasize the importance of tailored diagnostic tools for early identification of misconceptions and suggest directions for future research to enhance their effectiveness in educational assessments.

Abstract

This study discusses the importance of the “Project Approach” in early childhood education, which involves activities outside the classroom so that children are involved in conducting observations, interviews and site visits to explore project topics. The results show that direct involvement in real experiences improves children's understanding of the subject matter. In addition, creative representations, such as drawing and modeling, allow children to express their understanding in a variety of ways. The effectiveness of this approach is seen from the increase in children's involvement and motivation in learning, as well as the development of social and communication skills in language. This study supports a more interactive and applied learning approach in early childhood education.

Abstract

Early childhood education teachers in Indonesia often lack standardized tools to assess their pedagogical and professional competence. This study aims to develop and validate a reliable self-evaluation instrument by identifying key competency dimensions to support early childhood teachers in reflecting on their professional practices. The instrument consists of 39 items encompassing seven competency dimensions: evaluation and reflection skills, holistic educational approach, curriculum mastery, learning activity design, professionalism, technology integration, and communication. Data were collected using a 4-point Likert scale from 276 respondents for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and 978 respondents for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). EFA was used to identify the instrument's underlying factor structure, while CFA tested the model's fit with empirical data. The EFA results indicate that seven factors with eigenvalues greater than 1 were extracted, explaining 60.378% of the total variance across the 39 items. CFA results confirm that the conceptual model aligns with empirical data, with all standardized loading factors found to be significant. Construct reliability, measured using Composite Reliability (CR), shows that four of the seven dimensions have satisfactory reliability (CR > 0.70), while the remaining three dimensions demonstrate moderate reliability. This study contributes to early childhood education by presenting a validated and reliable self-assessment instrument to measure early childhood teachers’ pedagogical and professional competence. The instrument supports teachers in reflecting on their teaching practices and promotes ongoing professional development. It also offers a foundational tool for policymakers and institutions to improve teacher quality. Future research can examine its applicability in various educational contexts and evaluate its effectiveness in guiding targeted development programs.

Abstract

This research aims to increase independence by using loose parts. The research subjects were children aged 4-5 years, totaling 16 children. The research procedure includes planning, implementation of action, observation, and reflection of each cycle-given action in five meetings. This improvement data was collected using observation techniques and analyzed descriptively, quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that loose play can increase the independence of children aged 4-5 years. These results are indicated by an increase in the percentage of independence in action from pre-cycle to cycle 1 by 20.84%, then from cycle 1 to cycle 2 increased by 30.73%, and the average percentage of children's independence in cycle 2 was 84.38%. The results of this study can be used as a reference by kindergarten teachers in improving classroom learning related to children's self-sufficiency.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the alphabet mystery box media on early reading skills in early childhood. The literature review was conducted using Google Scholar, Google Search, hyperlinks, and ResearchGate. A total of 13 peer-reviewed publications, dated between 2020 and 2024, were included in the review, which included studies in English and Indonesian. Data analysis used content analysis to examine findings related to the Alphabet Mystery Box media and its effect on early childhood reading skills, contextualized in relevant theories and previous research. The results of the study indicate that early reading skills through the use of alphabet box media for early childhood have a significant impact on early literacy skills. The use of "magic box" learning media can improve children's cognitive and language skills, including recognizing numbers, alphabets, and colors. This article aims to optimize the reading skills of children aged 0-6 years, which is considered a critical developmental period. This study can assess how integrating traditional and digital media affects the engagement and effectiveness of early reading instruction.

Abstract

Many teachers in kindergarten do not know how to stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability. One way to stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability is through coding games, either using digital device media or without digital device media. This article aims to analyze the types of coding games as a medium that can help stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability. The method used is a systematic literature review using descriptive qualitative data analysis to analyze relevant previous studies. This study examined 40 articles on coding games to stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability in various international journals between 2020 and 2025. The results of the analysis of theoretical studies show that coding games can stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability. This is because coding games involve children getting used to thinking logically, being structured, processing tasks systematically, and solving problems by developing the right solutions. The implications of this study can provide an overview of the types of coding games that can be implemented or practiced by teachers to stimulate early childhood computational thinking ability, by adjusting facilities in schools can use digital media or without digital media.
