Abstract

This study aims to examine the transformational leadership model in Islamic boarding school (pesantren) management that integrates Islamic values and local wisdom at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan. The transformational approach was selected because it is considered capable of creating comprehensive positive change through inspiration, motivation, and the empowerment of all pesantren stakeholders. In this context, leadership is not merely structural in nature but also transcendental, positioning Islamic spiritual values as the moral and ethical foundation for decision-making processes and the development of organizational culture. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the pesantren leader plays a strategic role in internalizing Islamic values through exemplary conduct, visionary communication, and the strengthening of character development among students (santri) and the pesantren community. At the same time, local wisdom serves as a means of reinforcing social cohesion, facilitating cultural adaptation, and increasing community participation in supporting the sustainability of the institution.The study concludes that the transformational leadership model based on Islamic values and local wisdom at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School not only enhances managerial effectiveness but also strengthens the pesantren’s identity as a contextual, inclusive, and responsive educational institution that remains firmly grounded in the principles of Islamic law (Sharia).
