Abstract

This research is aimed to find out total cadmium content in soil at various usage of agricultural land areas at Sub-district North Pontianak and to determine the reference value of cadmium in agricultural soils. Thirty soil samples were collected using purposive sampling technique. Sample collection was carried out through composite technique. The samples were taken on surface soil layer at 0-20 cm deep. Interview was done to determine the duration of land usage and application of chemicals in farming input activities. Respondents were determined randomly to farmers of 4 kinds of farm land uses (paddy, vegetables, papaya and Aloe vera). Each group of farmers comprised 10 respondents. Analysis of soil samples of this research covered: texture, organic matter and total cadmium content. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that the reference value of cadmium ranged from 1.10 to 2.46 mg/kg. The reference value of peat soil higher than that on alluvial. Total cadmium content of agricultural land areas in Sub-district North Pontianak ranged from 0.009 to 0.601 mg/kg, which was still below the maximum reference value. Sources of cadmium in peat soil are fosfat fertilizer and wood ash applications. Wood ash is applied for improving soil pH. The presence of cadmium in aluvial soil is predicted from river sediment.

Abstract

Increasing green bean production in West Kalimantan can be done through the utilization of marginal red yellow podzolic soils. Constraints of red yellow podzolic soil as a planting medium are having lumpy soil structure, low permeability, poor aeration and drainage, low water holding ability can be improved by adding rice husk charcoal which has the advantage of improving porosity and aeration as well as a binder of nutrients so that they are not easily washed out. This study aims to determine the best dose of husk charcoal for the growth and yield of mung beans on red yellow podzolic red yellow podzolic. The research was carried out in the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of 6 treatment levels and 4 replications, each replication consisting of 3 samples so that there were 72 plants. The treatment consisted of a0 = without rice husk, a1 = 5 tonnes/ha , a2 = 10 tonnes/ha, a3 = 15 tonnes/ha, a4 = 20 tonnes/ha and a5 = 25 tonnes/ha. The variables observed in this study were plant height, root volume, plant dry weight, number of pods per plant, seed weight per plant, and weight of 100 seeds. The results showed that the application of rice husk charcoal at a dose of 25 tons/ha gave the best growth and yield of green bean on red yellow podzolic soil.INTISARI Peningkatan produksi kacang hijau di Kalimantan Barat dapat dilakukan melalui pemanfaatan tanah marginal Podsolik Merah Kuning (PMK). Kendala tanah PMK sebagai media tanam adalah memiliki struktur tanah gumpal, permeabilitas rendah, aerasi dan drainase buruk, kemampuan menahan air rendah dapat diperbaiki dengan pemberian arang sekam yang memiliki keunggulan memperbaiki porositas dan aerasi serta sebagai pengikat hara agar tidak mudah tercuci. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dosis arang sekam yang terbaik bagi pertumbuhan dan hasil kacang hijau pada tanah PMK. Penelitian dilaksanakan di lahan percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap  yang terdiri dari 6 taraf perlakuan dan 4 ulangan, masing masing ulangan terdiri dari 3 sampel sehingga terdapat 72 tanaman. Perlakuan terdiri dari a0 = tanpa pemberian aramg sekam , a1 = 5 t/ha,  a2 = 10 t/ha, a3 = 15 t/ha,  a4 = 20 t/ha dan a5 = 25 t/ha. Variabel yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman, volume akar, berat kering tanaman, jumlah polong per tanaman, berat biji per tanaman, dan berat 100 biji.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian arang sekam padi dengan dosis 25 ton/ha memberikan pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman kacang hijau yang terbaik pada tanah Podsolik Merah Kuning.

Abstract

Kecamatan Mandor memiliki banyak lahan penambangan emas baik yang aktif digunakan maupun yang telah ditinggalkan. Wilayah-wilayah yang pernah dibuka sebagai tempat usaha penambangan emas tidak pernah diupayakan untuk membersihkan sisa-sisa merkuri yang digunakan sebagai bahan pemisah butiran emas baik oleh pihak pemerintah, swasta maupun perorangan. Akibatnya wilayah ini menjadi lahan kritis yang rawan dampak pencemaran wabah penyakit yang disebabkan oleh paparan metil merkuri. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi bakteri yang berasal dari Kecamatan Mandor dan memiliki kemampuan mereduksi metil merkuri secara in vitro.  Isolat yang diperoleh adalah  isolat yang dapat dijadikan sebagai agent yang mampu memulihkan lahan yang tercemar metil merkuri. Penelitian dilakukan pada skala laboratorium dan diperoleh sebanyak 20 isolat yang tersebar dari beberapa lokasi pengambilan sampel. Isolat bakteri ditumbuhkan dengan menggunakan metode tuang yang menggunakan media nutrien agar. Dari 20 isolat yang ditemukan 6 diantaranya adalah isolat yang memiliki kemampuan hidup pada media yang ditambahkan metil merkuri mulai taraf konsentrasi 5 ppm, 10 ppm dan 15 ppm Hg.Kata kunci : Bakteri Indigenous, Metil Merkuri dan Tailing.

Abstract

Cadmium is a heavy metal and non-essential element but easily absorbed by plants and transferred to the shoots. Cadmium accumulation in various plant species showed varying responses. This research aimed to study the availability of Cd, the toxicity symptoms and growth of three species of Brassicaceae (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis, Brassica rapa var. pekinensis, Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra) on Cd-contaminated peat soil. Contaminant Cd and soil were mixed in different dosages i.e. 2 mgkg-1 Cd, 4 mgkg-1 Cd, 8 mgkg-1 Cd, 16 mgkg-1 Cd and 32 mgkg-1 Cd and used to fill growth pot (5kg/pot). The results showed that the addition of Cd contaminant produces Exchangable-Cd in growth media on range 0.1477 mgkg-1 up to 2.8459 mgkg-1 and influenced fresh weight of shoot of crops used except Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra. Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra showed more tolerant to high Cd exposure, no symptoms of toxicity found so far, while Brassica rapa var. parachinensis and Brassica rapa var. pekinensis showed stunting and chlorosis symptoms as excess of Cd in growth media
