Abstract

This paper seeks to explorehow the comprehensible inputs are given by mother   responded by the children who have no English background and what are the discourse features which aid children’s comprehension and ability to maintain the conversation. This study is conducted in the writer’s home with her sons in order to apply the comprehensible inputs. The results shows that the children ages 5 and 7 years old who have no English background are able to give the responses unless the questions or the stimulus given must be followed by the non verbal language such as gesture and the body movements. In this case, the results can be varied. From the stimulus using the comprehensible inputs, the children are also giving different responses. It can be in the form of non-verbal language such as nodding or by repeating the last word said by their mother. It is suggested that parents should give encouragement to the children and help them in acquiring the second language at home. Keywords:  Parents’ stimulus; Comprehensible inputs; daily conversation with no English background.

Abstract

With so much pollution that can cause various diseases, the need for cleaning supplies such as soap is also increasing. Good quality soap is determined by the raw materials used. Palm oil is a potential raw material for soap production. This is because lauric acid and vitamin E, which come from plants and function as antioxidants, are found in palm oil. Therefore, the community needs to be introduced to creative/innovative ideas to support government activities. One of them is PHBS (Clean and Healthy Lifestyle) in the community by introducing the manufacture of bar soap made from cooking oil which is easy to make and practiced as a form of awareness of community hygiene where there is no need to buy soap because it can be made yourself at an affordable price. RW 09 in the Ngadirejo Kartasura Village is the right target for community service because it is in a dense, busy, active area with lots of routine activities and many people who have businesses and have potential. The aim of this training was to engage local community groups with the ability to make their own bar soap. The implementation method is participatory coaching through the learning by doing method so that it is true that the people's group has been able to create the product. The results of the training showed that the training participants were able to mix 500 grams of palm cooking oil, 65 grams of NaOH, and 155 grams of Aquades water using a measuring cup to get solid bar soap and good results. Community creativity development training uses a touch of packaging innovation so that products sell well in the market and can be a follow-up to the next community service.

Abstract

Abstract

Job  opportunities  for  graduates  of  the French  Language Studies Program (PS) are currently more and more promising. But of course, graduates must have good or even superior skills to compete with graduates of the same field from various Indonesian universities. Therefore, the existence of specialization courses (MK) is a very good  step  to  equip  graduates  with  qualified  skills,  especially  in  the  field  of  French. Specialized courts can help graduates be able to compete in a wider range of professions. Employment opportunities for graduates will be increasingly open. But in reality, there are still students, alumni and stakeholders who don't know and understand this. Thus, through this service activity, it is hoped that the various parties directly involved will be able to learn about the importance of the specialized tribunal during studies in the French Language Studies Program. Not only the provision of French with a literary and pedagogical basis, but also competence in the field of specialized French (FOS / French for Specific Objectives) to be able to compete in an increasingly difficult professional world. The challenges of the disruptive era and the 4.0 industrial revolution and the 5.0 society require students and alumni as well as stakeholders to be able to adapt quickly to the changes taking place both in the world of education than professionals.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using a genre-based approach as a learning method in teaching and improving students' writing skills. This study uses a quantitative method, using pre-test and post-tests as data collection techniques. The subjects of this research were the eighth graders of SMP Dharma Lestari, Salatiga. The results obtained were that the average score of students on the pre-test was 71.44, while the average score of students on the post-test was 76.04. This shows an increase in students' ability to learn to write by as much as 6.4%. Research has shown that the genre-based approach can be effective in improving students' writing skills, particularly in terms of organization, coherence, and clarity. By focusing on the features of different genres, students can learn how to use language to achieve specific goals and how to adapt their writing to different contexts and audiences. Therefore, it can be concluded that the genre-based approach is an effective method for teaching and improving students' writing skills.
