Abstract

Abstract This research focused on the illocutionary acts in Game of Thrones TV series. It aims to have a description of the illocutionary acts and to identify the utterances with its meaning in the show. In this study the data were analyzed through qualitative analysis, the data collected in this research are from the show’s script of Game of Thrones Season 6 episode ten entitled “The Winds of Winter”. The data are categorized and explained based on Austin’s classification of illocutionary acts as the pioneer of this theory. The results of the data analysis showed that the illocutionary acts performed by the characters in the series are varies and included in Austin’s classification of illocutionary acts which are verdictives, excersitives, commissives, behabitives and expositives. Based on the results, the illocutionary acts performed by the characters in the series are influenced by the speaker’s or the addressee’s status, it is indicated by how the nobles performed their illocutionary acts are different comparing to the peasants in the show. It could be concluded that the speaker’s background or status are influential when performing illocutionary acts and to gain proper response from the addressee.Key words: speech acts, illocutionary acts, game of thrones.

Abstract

The morphological process or word formation in the Indonesian language  occurred includes several ways and one of them is by affixation in the form of  base into a new form. Through the process of affixation there was a change in the form and meaning of the word is called derivation which is the process of affixation which changes the word class . It is the case also in the Lamaholot  language dialect of Tenawahang(BLDT). The research is using the methods of qualitative descriptive. The purpose of this research was to determine : 1).What affixes that included in verb derivation of BLDT. 2). How is the process of verb derivation in BLDT . Verb derivation is a change in word class from verb to another word class. The verb derivation that occurs in BLDT  includes the noun deverbal and the adjective deverbal . The verb derivation that change the word class of base verb into noun is called noun deverbal , and change the word class  of base verb into adjective is called adjective deverbal .  Results of the study showed that process of verb derivation which occur in BLDT  is the process of affixation that includes  prefix: {be-}; infix:{-en-}; suffixes: {-eng},{-ung}; confix:{ke-…-ng}. The process of verb derivation that occur can be formed and  the meaning are generated as a result of verb derivation in BLDT certainly changed in accordance with the base of word. Abstract

This study examines the lingual forms especially the morphological process and the lingual form of sentences based on the communicative values contained in the meme of the whatsapp group. The things discussed will reveal the lingual forms of words and sentences in meme on whatsapp group. This study aims to identify, classify, and analyze the lingual forms in meme on whatsapp group. This research is descriptive qualitative with a linguistic approach. The method of data collection uses the referred method. The method of data analysis uses a matching method with basic and advanced techniques. The results of the study show that there are six lingual forms of words according to the morphological processes in the meme of the whatsapp group, which consist of zero derivation, affixation (prefix, suffix, confix, and combination of affixes), reduplication (dwilingga and dwiwasana), abbreviation (decapitation, abbreviation, contractions, and acronyms), composition, and reverse derivation. The result of the study of the lingual sentence shows that there are four types of sentences, namely declarative sentences, interrogative sentences (total and partial interrogatives), imperative sentences (common imperatives, requests, invitation, and imperative), and empathic sentences in meme on whatsapp group.Keywords: shapes, lingual, words, sentences, memes

Abstract

Language is a communication tool that has an important role to convey information. Languange is also a sound alert system that agreed to be used by members of certain communities work togather, communicate and  identifying themselves. The background of this study by the term kinship tends to do with the concept of culture used by certain people who call someone in the family as in the community Sangihe. These factors that the attention of  researchers to the term of kinship in the society. The purpose of this study is to indentify kinship term in the Sangihe Society and explain the meaning of kinship in the Sangihe sociey that reflect of culture.The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. To obtain the data in the field. Burling theory (1970) to answer the first question and the theory Spradley (1979) and Casson (1981) to answer the second question. To obtain the data in the field, researchers used a method refer and method capable (SBCL) and using the questionnaire in the form of a questionnaire of Sudaryanto (1993) and interview techniques as recommended by Spradley (1997), which consists of general questions, specific questions, sample questions, questions based on experiences and questions native language or dialect. These data are then captured and recorded. In the data analysis methods, used analysis of the concept of expression to identify and explain the data as a whole, on the basis of linguistic theory of cultural anthropology discover the meaning behind the kinship terms on Sangihe society.

Abstract

This research is focused on the anthropolinguistic study which is to observe the correlation between language and socio-cultural aspects based on the ethnicity of a certain linguistic community. This research aims to (a) identify and classify the linguistic forms regarding of maize in Tombulu language; and to (b) describe the forms of local wisdom pertaining maize.In this research, we used qualitative-descriptive method which is a form of problem-solving procedure that endeavors to describe the condition of research objects in the current times based on the observed empirical facts. The techniques and instruments for the data collection are through observation and in-depth interview. The interview is done in order to obtain the linguistic data that are in the form of verbal expressions and local wisdoms which are possessed by the farmer from Tombulu speaker. As for the data analysis, we used an anthropolinguistic analysis that focuses on the linguistic data without neglecting the local wisdoms that are inherent to the observed society. Thus, it is found that the linguistic form regarding to maize such as words, phrases, idioms, and local wisdoms are mapalus and cosmic knowledge relating to the crop.Keywords: linguistic expression, Tombulu language, local wisdom

Abstract

Stress is one of suprasegmental feature in language and is included in the study of acoustic phonetics. Tontemboanese is a language spoken in several areas in Minahasa, and in this research, the word stress in Tontemboanese is done through the approach of experimental phonetics by employing the software Praat in data analysis. The data are collected through recording from interview, cut the recording into several one-word recordings, and then the data are analyzed with Praat to determine the pitch, duration, and intensity of each syllable. Through the data analysis, it is found that the Tontemboanese word stress is a fixed word stress, and the position of the stress is generally in the penultimate syllables. The result is still similar with the results by Schwarz (1908) and Tambuwun (1986) which states that the word stress in Tontemboanese is in the penultimate syllable. Abstract

Language is a means of human communication through social interaction with others. According to Chomsky, language is a collection of sentences, each with a certain length and built by a set of specific elements. Language is a regular system from various forms of sounds used in expressing thoughts and feelings of the users of the language. Indonesian language was born on October 28, 1928, grew and developed from the Malay language since ancient times, and has been used as a lingua franca not only in the archipelago, but also in almost all of Southeast Asia. This study examines the language based on the internal object of linguistic study; micro linguistic and one of its sub-discipline is morphology, focused on forms of acronyms used in UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. The research focus is on the forms of acronyms used in UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. There are three forms of acronyms used by the Aparatur Sipil Negera (Civil Servant) and Tenaga Harian Lepas (Intern) on UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, which is acronym whose form is determined by the formation process based on the theory of O'Grady, Dobrovolsky, theory of Kridalaksana. H., and one of the form does not follow the two existing theories. Of the thirty two acronyms found, twenty nine are formal acronyms in Indonesian language and the other three are informal acronyms.

Abstract

This article was to describe the distribution of glottal stop in Tombulu language uttered in East Tomohon Sub-District. Four theories were chosen to be applied in this research. In various languages, glottal stops are said to occur within the following positions; Initial: in the vocal initial position, medial: between two vocals, and on intervocalic or at the morphemes boundary, final: at the vocal final position. The same theories were used to identify the distribution of glottal stops in Tombulu language. This was a qualitative research using a descriptive method. The techniques used for collecting data were observation, interview, recording, transcription and translation. The subjects of the research were the people who lived in the three villages mentioned above. The participants were chosen carefully based on some requirements, such as; mature enough, originally from Tomohon, living there, and possessing a complete set of articulators. It was found out that the glottal stop in Tombulu language occurs unpredictively. It could appear at the initial, medial, or final position within a word. Abstract

This research Design entitled ”Loanwords from Dutch  on Manadonese Malay – a Study of Morphology and Lexicology”is a descriptive analysis. It tends to describe the words in Manadonese Malay, especially adopted words from Dutch. Loanwords or adopted words or borrowing words are words adopted by the speakers of one language from the source language. This is the process of speakers adopting words from a source language into their native language. The words simply come to be used by a speech community when they speak  different language, in this case Manadonese Malay. Dutch is the language spoken by Dutch people, especially The Old Dutch who formerly used by Dutch colonialists in Indonesia. Manadonese Malay is spoken in the population of the city of Manado, Bitung, Tomohon, Minahasa districts and surrounding areas. It has similarities with the dialect in Central Sulawesi and Molluca. Most of the words in Manadonese Malay are almost the same in Indonesian, which is the Malay. It is only used for oral communication, there is no standard orthography/writing never ratified.Keywords: Loanwords, Dutch Language and Manado-Malay Language.

Abstract

Morfosintaksis adalah salah satu cabang linguistik yang memadukan antara morfologi dan sintaksis dalam suatu struktur bahasa. Salah satu yang dipelajari adalah afiksasi yang keberadaannya dapat mengubah struktur kalimat. Dalam rangka menambah bahan pembelajaran bahasa untuk pemertahanan bahasa daerah, penelitian ini mengkaji infiksasi, salah satu jenis afiksasi pada bahasa Minahasa dialek Tombulu yang kemudian dikontraskan dengan bahasa Indonesia dari sudut pandang morfosintaksis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan perbandingan infiksasi bahasa Tombulu dan infiksasi bahasa Indonesia melalui pendekatan morfosintaksis. Studi ini mengambil pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode pengambilan data berupa wawancara, observasi dan studi pustaka kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik Pilah. Model ini menggabungkan metode dasar, teknik Pilah Unsur Penentu (PUP), dengan metode lanjutan, teknik Hubung Banding (HB) dan teknik Hubung Banding Menyamakan Hal Pokok (HBSP). Hasil yang ditemukan adalah dialek Tombulu mengalami cukup kaya akan proses infiksasi (14 kata menggunakan infiks -in-, 5 kata menggunakan infiks -um-, dan 9 kata menggunakan infiks -im-) dibandingkan bahasa Indonesia (3 kata dengan infiks -in-, 2 kata dengan infiks -el-, 3 kata dengan infiks -em-, dan 1 kata dengan infiks -er-) dan proses infiksasi memiliki pengaruh sintaksis lebih signifikan dibanding infiks dalam bahasa Indonesia.
