Abstract

Abstract

Milkfish (Chanos chanos Forskall) is a consumption fish that is quite popular in Indonesia. Thornless milkfish is a semi-finished fishery product in the form of fresh raw milkfish which has been removed from the bone. The advantage is not reducing the nutritional content because the processing only removes thorns. This activity aims to transfer the technology of thornless milkfish processing to mothers and young women in the Cahaya Lakkang and Jaya Lakkang groups in Kelurahan Lakkang, Kecamatan Tallo, Kota Makassar. The activities offered are in the form of counseling, training and field practice. The method of approach adopted is a participatory approach. Training material consists of: (1) introduction of the characteristics of fresh milk fish; (2) arrangement and number of thorns found in milkfish; (3) interesting techniques for fish spines; (4) packing practice. The results of the implementation of thornless milkfish processing indicate that: 1) increased knowledge and skills of the target audience in processing milkfish without thorns; 2) Approximate 80-70% yield of milkfish without spines.

Abstract

Fishery products are one of the products that have very limited durability and perishable so that the community, especially fishermen, preserve the product so that its freshness can last longer. One of the preservatives used is formalin, although it is very dangerous to human health. Some food products that contain formalin include: fresh fish, salted fish, tofu, wet noodles. Counseling on food safety needs to be continued widely to the public in various forms. This activity aims to educate and train partner groups on: 1) the dangers of formaldehyde on health; 2) characteristics of formalin food ingredients; 3) how to detect formalin foods; 4) eliminate / reduce formaldehyde levels in food products; 5) safe preservatives. The activities was carried out on February 7, 2019, in Desa Untia, Kecamatan Biringkanaya, Kota Makassar. The target group is fishermen and fisheries processors, as many as 23 people. The method used in service is counseling and training methods through lectures, discussions, and practice/training. The extension activity was attended by Untia village chiefs, local fisheries instructors, administrators of the All-Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) and the target group. Abstract

The high exploitation pressure and decreasing environmental conditions of Lake Tempe due to pollution, sedimentation, growth of aquatic weeds, and the presence of invasive alien fish, namely suckermouth catfish, are thought to have harmed one of the native fish, namely climbing perch (Anabas testudineus). The research aims to analyze the reproductive biology of climbing perch. Fish were caught using gill nets from January to April 2021. The total length of the fish was measured using a caliper (cm), and the weight (g) was measured using an analytical balance. Fish gonads were preserved in a 4% formalin solution. Fish fecundity was calculated based on the gravimetric method. The length distribution of male and female fish was 7.5 - 15.5 and 7.5 - 17.5 cm, respectively. The maximum climbing perch caught was 17.5 cm smaller than the maximum length ever caught, which was 35.0 cm, and the average size was 9.56 cm smaller than the average length of climbing perch, which was 12.5 cm. The ratio of male and female fish as a whole was 1.1: 0.9 or 53%: 47%, while the sex ratio of males and females in spawning was 38%: 62%. Climbing perch is polygamous, i.e., male fish have several partners in one spawning season. The spawning season lasted throughout the research period, with the spawning season's peak in February with a total spawner pattern. Fecundity ranged from 253-10,237 eggs with an average value of 2,571 eggs, and the relationship between length and weight with fecundity was very strong. The growth pattern of male and female fish was negative allometric.

Abstract

The coastal area of Pasangkayu Regency, has the potential of mangrove crab resources, which have not been utilized optimally. This study aims to determine the species composition, and biological aspects of the mangrove crab Scylla spp caught in the Fold trap in the mangrove ecosystem area in Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The research was carried out from March to June 2020. The materials used consisted of the Global Positioning System (GPS), Camera; and digital scales and rulers. Types of data collected include primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from surveys and field observations, secondary data were collected from various related agencies. Data analysis includes species composition and biological aspects. The results of the identification of mangrove crabs found 2 types of mud crabs, Scylla serrata and Scylla olivacea, which were more dominant than Scylla olivacea. The results of the analysis of the biological aspect showed that the mangrove crab species were Scylla serrata in the allometric minor category and Scylla olivacea in the isometric category. The size distribution of long class frequencies, types of Scylla serrata and Scylla olivacea. The sex ratio of Sylla serrata is in the balanced category and Sylla olivacea is not balanced, the number of females is less than males. The rate of exploitation of the two types of mangrove crab Scylla serrata and Scylla olivacea is still rational and sustainable, the E value <0.5% or the highest E value 0.5% is still considered sustainable. The conversion rate of mangrove ecosystems for various purposes needs to be reduced so that the mangrove crab habitat area is maintained.
