Abstract

Abstract

The development of the city as an economic and trade node is very important for the urban system and the regional economy. The distribution of centralized public facilities and services attracts people to work in the city center. In these conditions, the ideal form of the city is needed because to reach work, school, public services and so on can be done only by walking or cycling. This study aims to examine the characteristics and behavior of walking and bicycle mode selection based on the shape of the urban environment, demographic, social and economic conditions of the community. And look at the factors that might influence the decision to choose the mode of transportation. This study uses a quantitative deductive approach. This research method is based on a questionnaire along with interviews and field observations. The study was conducted in eight urban villages in the city of Bogor. The target respondents are individuals who reside/domicile in the area. The results showed that walking mode was the most frequently chosen mode of travel. In addition, the bicycle mode is the second most frequently used mode. The influencing city form factor is the access and affordability of public facilities and services such as bus stops and commercial areas. In addition, population density and the level of land use are also influential factors. Furthermore, demographic, social, and economic factors that influence are income, personal vehicle ownership, days of travel, and ability to walk based on the furthest distance. In addition, there are other factors that influence, namely the travel time to the destination, affordable costs, as well as the safety and comfort of pedestrian and bicycle paths.

Abstract

High urbanization in Indonesia created significant mobility challenges, particularly due to the intensive use of motorized vehicles that led to congestion and environmental degradation. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing pedestrian volume in Banda Aceh as an alternative solution to promote active mobility. The analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method with three main variables—land use mix, density, and connectivity—measured across 44 grids of 800×800 meters within the city. The findings showed that density had a significant positive effect on pedestrian volume (path coefficient = 0.425; p-value = 0.007), while land use mix and connectivity did not demonstrate significant effects. The proposed model explained 27.2% of the variation in walking mobility. These results highlighted the importance of urban density in encouraging walking activity and suggested that compact urban development could be an effective strategy to promote active mobility in Indonesian cities.

Abstract

Kuta Raya is one of Bali’s main tourist destinations, characterized by high mobility among international tourists and various transportation mode options. This study aims to analyze the factors related to international tourists’ preferences in choosing transportation modes in the Kuta Raya area. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 134 international tourists visiting Kuta, Seminyak, and Legian. The analysis employed the Crosstab method with the Chi-Square (?²) test to identify statistical relationships between tourist characteristics, travel factors, and mode choice. The results indicate that driving license ownership (SIM A), frequency of visit, transportation cost, and parking cost have a significant relationship (p < 0.05) with tourists’ mode choice. Meanwhile, variables such as gender, age, income, and comfort show no significant relationship. These findings suggest that cost-related aspects and travel experience are the main considerations influencing international tourists’ transportation mode preferences in the Kuta Raya area.
