Abstract

Abstract

In 2021, the population of motorized vehicles in DIY reached 3 million units of which 85% were motorcycles. The growth in the number of motorized vehicles results in increased congestion, pollution, and traffic accidents. To overcome transportation problems in Yogyakarta, in 2008 the government operated BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) based public transportation, Trans Jogja. However, various studies have shown that the load factor of Trans Jogja is very low. This study was conducted to see the characteristics of motorcyclist and latent factors of public transportation services that are prioritized by motorcycle users to switch modes to Trans Jogja. Primary data was obtained online and offline from 455 motorcycle users by answering a research questionnaire consisting of four sections, namely sociodemographic characteristics, travel characteristics and service factors that are prioritized to switch to Trans Jogja. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive methods, crosstab and factor analysis with SPSS. The results of the crosstab analysis show that the sociodemographic characteristics of respondents that correlate with the number of motorcycle ownership are age, income, pocket money, number of family members.Based on the factor analysis of public transport services prioritized by motorcycle users to switch to Trans Jogja, 4 latent factors were obtained, namely Trans Jogja service performance, transit experience, bus facilities and fees and parking. Keywords: Motorcycle, Trans Jogja, mode shift, factor analysis

Abstract

Bintan is one of the tourist destinations in Indonesia, and it has many international tourists. Still, it is not optimal due to problems with global access and the lack of an adequate airport. This paper aims to identify potential passengers for Bintan's new airport (BIA). The econometric method estimates passengers, and the gravity model determines the airport’s share. The catchment area will be Batam and Bintan Island. The calculation shows that the factor influencing air traffic in the catchment area is the total GRDP (R2 = 0.63). The traffic is dominated by international passengers who shift from current sea transport and additional passengers from improved air access. BIA’s passenger share is 24% compared to the number of passengers in the catchment area. The movement of passengers at BIA in 30 years will reach 12.9 million. Growth for the first ten years was 17.4% annually; the following ten years were 7.3% and 2.2%.

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized information gathering and daily activities, particularly in train operations. However, the implementation of IoT in Indonesia has not been optimally used, leading to delays in train location information. This research aims to explore the application of IoT for train location tracking systems in two countries, namely the UK as a developed country that adopts technology more quickly compared to Indonesia. This study employs qualitative methods with case studies approach to analyze IoT implementation in train tracking in Indonesia and the UK, focusing on regulations, and technology which support train tracking systems. Several research has discussed about how to use IoT in designing systems to produce train locations information and how this can help improve the safety of train operations. The originality in this research is exploration of how the implementation of IoT related to train tracking has been utilized and the benefits that have been felt by each stakeholder in both countries. The UK has implemented privatization, which has positively impacted infrastructure development. In addition, Office of Rail and Road (ORR) as an independent organization in UK regulates passenger information conveyed by train and station operators. In contrast, Indonesia's infrastructure is owned by the government and managed by KAI, the passenger train and station operator for mostly intercity train. The Ministry of Transportation supervises operators, implementing regulations from construction to operations. The comparison results indicate that specific regulations, data openness, and Darwin system in UK are the factors in real-time train information provision.

Abstract

Nowadays, music plays an essential role in train stations. Many train stations offer music in various forms. This study focuses on the background music, defined as music prepared and recorded in advance by the train station manager and played at certain times with a specific duration in the stations. The songs or musical instruments played in Java Island, Indonesia, are folk songs that reflect the identity of each region. The objectives of the study are to analyse the background music selection in the train station globally, to identify the purpose of background music used in the train stations from the railway company perspective, to identify the criteria and characteristics of folk songs used as background music, and to analyse the passengers’ perspective on background music at the train station. The research utilised a qualitative case study research methodology. The methods used include online research and literature reviews to answer the first objective regarding background music selection at train stations globally. Then in-depth interviews with rail service providers and the rail service users. The conclusions obtained are: 1) the Japan Railway Company create unique melodies for each line and station to help the train passengers remember specific locations and lines and guide the passengers to steps and orderly queues during peak hours; 2) KAI's purpose in playing background music at the station is for additional services for passengers as well as a sign that the train has arrived and to provide a regional identity as one of the local cultures; 3) the percentage of background music is dominated by instrumentals with traditional arrangements; 4) About 80% of the respondents who were interviewed said that the songs played at the station had a place for bonding with the location, others are nostalgic, proud, peaceful and relaxed.

Abstract

State employees of Tanjungpinang consists of 4,303 people whose origins and destinations are spread throughout the city. This is the reason for the high travel demand where private vehicles are still superior to the other modes of choice. This adds to problems in environmental aspects, especially the contributors to air pollution and noise on the road. This study uses a quantitative method with descriptive analysis and spatial analysis. Descriptive analysis is used to identify existing employee travel characteristics. The graphic display presented in the results of the descriptive analysis aims to make it easier to explain the results of the analysis of the formation of zones, the number of trips in each zone, as well as the focus services and existing facilities. Spatial analysis is used to point to the edge of the location of existing facilities, and the ease of origin and destination of employee travel. The results of the study indicate that the current supply of services and facilities has not been able to accommodate the travel demand of state employees. The supply of transport services and facilities is still lacking because they only serve and available in several sub-districts which are the points of origin and destinations travel for employees. This caused low interest of employees by using green transport whose origin and destination areas are not covered and crossed by services. Therefore, it is necessary to request institutional-based travel demand management to encourage employees to travel using green transport in the form of policies, coordination, and cooperation within the internal scope of the Tanjungpinang city government.

Abstract

Yogyakarta is listed among the cities with the worst congestion in Indonesia. Besides, the development of Yogyakarta has now expanded to the surrounding area and agglomerated into the Yogyakarta Urban Area (KPY). Private vehicle ownership is closely correlated to the characteristics of households. This study aims to analyze the correlation of the level of private vehicle ownership with the characteristics of households and the correlation of private vehicle ownership towards the responses of households with transportation policies that will be implemented in the future. This study fully used secondary data. The total respondents were 8,810 households, and the research location was the Yogyakarta Urban Area (KPY). The path analysis was employed to find out the causal relation between variables and the contribution between variables in the analysis. The variables used were gender, age, education level of the heads of households, total household income, the number of adult family members (> 17 years old), the number of children (<17 years old), the number of working family members, total motorcycle licenses in a household, total driver's licenses in a household, total motorcycle ownership in a household, total car ownership in a household, and the responses of households to the transportation policies that will be applied. The results of the study show that motorcycle ownership in a household is influenced by gender, age, the level of education of the heads of households, total household income, the number of adult family members, the number of children, the number of working family members, and total motorcycle licenses in a household. Meanwhile, car ownership in a household is influenced by age, total household income, the number of working family members, and total driver's licenses in a household. There is also a correlation between motorcycle and car ownership. Increasing car ownership in a household has a positive correlation with motorcycle ownership. Furthermore, motorcycle ownership has a good significance value and a positive correlation with pedestrianization policies prioritizing public transportation in the Mangkubumi-Malioboro-Kraton area.
