Abstract

Background: Basic science laboratory practicum is intended to help improve theachievement of block material. The practical implementation that was applied previously seemed very theoretical. Students find it challenging to associate laboratory practicum's topics with processes that occur in the human body, clinical process, and associate with other material in blocks. The problem has an impact on the score of the pretest and the interest of students in following the laboratory practicum. Physiology laboratory practicum with the method of case-based learning (CBL) is expected to increase the graduation of the pretest and interest of students in following the practicum so that it is expected to improve mastery of the material and link the subject to the real conditions in everyday life. This study aims to determine whether there is an increase in pretest score and student interest in physiology practicum using the CBL method. Methods: The method used in this study is the application of case-based learning inphysiology practicum. After that, the pretest results were analyzed by comparing the control and treatment groups. After completion of the laboratory practicum, the students' perceptions of laboratory practicum with CBL through questionnaires and focus group discussion (FGD) to laboratory practicum participants were completed. Results: The results of the analysis show that the physiological pretest scores ofstudents using the case-based learning method and the addition of local genius material are higher than those who do not use this method (p = 0.00 for blocks 1.4 and 1.6, and p = 0, 03 for block 1.5). Practicum physiology with CBL is attractive for students. In addition, making students better prepared and better understand the material being practiced, and can apply physiological material to the context of everyday life. Conclusion: CBL can be used to increase the effectiveness of physiology learning, especially by increasing student activeness in the learning process, both during preparation before laboratory practicum and also on laboratory practicum process.

Abstract

Introduction: The method to improve learning achievement is peer tutoring method. Students can grow and increase their interest in learning, so that the learning materials in the tutorial can be easily understood. By increasing student interest in learning, student learning success will be achieved. The problem raised in this study is how the peer tutoring method influences the results of tutorial activeness.Research Objectives: Knowing the participation of peer tutoring on the value of the activity of the “Blok Masalah Pada Anak” tutorial on the students of Faculty of Medicine UII Force 2015.Methods: The experiments were quasi experimental research. This research design uses posttest only with control design. A total of 40 research subjects came from 2 different groups. The ratio of the control group to the treatment group was 1: 1. The control group was a group that was not given peer tutoring and the treatment group was a group given peer tutoring. Data analysis using Independent T Test. Results: There was no difference in scores of scenario 6 activation score in the control group and treatment group with p value 0.704 and 95% CI interval between -9.79 to 4.79 (past 0.)Conclusion: There is no relationship of peer tutoring with the score of the activity of tutorial block Problems In Children at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Indonesia batch 2015.

Abstract

Background of choosing the subject: In recent years world society including Indonesia tend to consider the use of herbal medicine - back to nature. The advantages of herbal medicine become an interesting discussion. Most information expand in society is empirical rather than scientific evidence. Thus red betel vine's benefit also becomes interesting discussion but evidence based medicine about it is very little. The purpose of this study is to know the potency of antibacterial power of ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) toward gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Research Methodology: This research was laboratory experimental study. The extract of red betel vine was made with standard ethanol solvent. This extract was examined in Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35218. Experimental method is serial dilution. Result was analyzed descriptively with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The examination in each bacterium was repeated 5 times.  Result: The result shown that ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) has ability to inhibit the growth of Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and to kill it on  concentration 25%. While the ability to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli (Gram negative) on 6,25% (visual observation and after has been planted in Mc Conkey media). From result repetition in 5 times, gram negative is more stable rather than gram positive.  Conclusion: The ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) has antibacterial effect toward Gram positive and gram negative. MIC and MBC Staphylococcus aureus  at 25% while for MIC and MBC Escherichia coli at 6,25%.Keywords: antibacterial   –  Red betel vine  –  Piper crocatum  –  Staphylococcus aureus  – Escherichia coli
