Abstract

Environmental management in industrial estate is the strategic policy model which is needed to be developed referring to the Indonesian Government Decree number 24 year 2009, that state almost all of the new industrial developments should be located in industrial estate. The complexity in this environmental management was approached by “green rating” of PROPER’s criteria regulated by Ministry of Environment & Forestry (KLHK). PROPER is the assessment program of company performance rating in environmental management. Green rating is classified by PROPER in terms of beyond compliance performance. The result of the case study in Jababeka Industrial Estate (KIJA) Bekasi, based on its environmental situational analysis year 2014 by multidimensional scaling (MDS) method, showed that only the management dimension had a sustainability performance. The results of prospective analysis on leverage factors of MDS showed that the key factors of the environmental management model were (1) DRKPL (summary document of environmental management performance), (2) implementation of water conservation and reducing water pollution program, (3)funding for water conservation, (4) monitoring and evaluation of community development program, (5) implementation of 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) programs of hazardous waste, (6) technology of 3R, and (7) benchmarking. Based on the key parameters and referred to the possibilities conditions, three scenarios have been developed to approach the implementative policy. The moderate scenario was recommended to be the right policy in term of consideration of technology, funding availability, time of implementation and organization skills. Keywords: environmental management, industrial estate, jababeka, proper KLHK

Abstract

Sustainability of food self-sufficiency in the West Java Province experiences strong pressure along with increasing economic development, the process of urbanization, population growth and the effects of climate change. The objective of this study is to identify technological and socio-cultural factors that can threatening the sustainability of food self-sufficiency in West Java Province. This study uses multidimensional scaling analysis to assess the sustainability index and status and supported by a descriptive analysis of key factors that can provide inhibiting factors for the sustainability of food self-sufficiency. The results of the analysis describe that the ecological, economic and institutional aspects have sufficient influence on sustainability in food self-sufficiency, while the socio-cultural aspects and aspects of technology provide less sustainable effects in supporting the sustainability of food self-sufficiency. Factors in the use of certified seeds, area of paddy fields and irrigated rice fields, use of tools and machines for rice production and rice cropping indexes are key factors in technological aspects that can be a threat to the sustainability of food self-sufficiency. While the threat to the sustainability of food self-sufficiency in the socio-cultural aspects come from the factor of the number of workers in the food crops sub-sector, the pattern of consumption of carbohydrate food in the community and the distribution of rice. Governance of these key factors is key in developing sustainability of food self-sufficiency in West Java Province.

Abstract

Depok City, Indonesia, faces significant challenges with a population of over 2 million people, substantially impacting waste issues, particularly food waste, contributing to global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. To support sustainable development goals, it is crucial to reduce food loss. To address this problem, black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) has emerged as a potential solution because of its ability to break down food waste into biomass. Nevertheless, environmental waste management faces challenges such as public awareness, infrastructure limitations, stakeholder engagement, and threats to long-term sustainability. This study aims to identify key leverage points for the sustainability of BSF (Black Soldier Fly) larvae utilization in waste management. The objective of this study was to identify the key sustainability factors. This study used RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) software to find the keys to sustainability. Results reveal that the sustainability status of the utilization of BSF for environmental waste managementis deemed to be “Relatively Sustainable”. The Department of Environmental and Cleanliness plays a pivotal role as a sustainability leverage for this program.
