Abstract

This study, entitled Identification of Secondary Metabolite Compounds in the Stems and Leaves of Surat Dibata (Macodes petola) Using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) aims to determine the compounds and their concentrations of secondary metabolites present in the stems and leaves of Surat Dibata (Macodes petola) using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). The methods used in this study include maceration extraction to identify secondary metabolite compounds and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) to determine the concentrations of these compounds in the stems and leaves of Surat Dibata (Macodes petola). The results of the study showed that the extraction identified secondary metabolite compounds such as steroids in the stems and flavonoids, steroids, and tannins in the leaves. Based on the results from the GCMS analysis, the stems were found to contain 0.63% steroids, while the leaves contained 0.002% flavonoids, 0.002% tannins, and 2.215% steroids.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of determining the vitamin content, micro-macro nutrients, and physicochemical properties contained in the leaves of the Surat Dibata plant (Macodes petola). The analysis procedure included qualitative and quantitative vitamin tests using the DCPIP method and UV-Vis spectrophotometry, analysis of micro-macro nutrients using AAS, and measurement of water content, ash, pH, and water-soluble organic compounds based on the AOAC standard method. The test results showed that qualitatively these leaves contain vitamins C, B1, and E, with concentrations (mg/100 g) of 47.8; 1.02; and 0.99, respectively. Meanwhile, for micro-macro nutrients such as Fe, Zn, Mg, and Ca, quantitative results showed levels (mg/kg) of 47.2; 30.7; 212.3; and 433.7, respectively. Furthermore, the detected water content was 79.22%, the ash content was 10.15%, the pH was 5.8, and the water-soluble organic compound content reached 66.6%. Overall, this data shows that Surat Dibata leaves have great potential as a natural source of nutrients and phytochemicals that support the development of herbal products and environmentally friendly agriculture.

Abstract

Entomopathogenic fungi are one of the biological agents that play an important role in controlling insect pests. In addition to being obtained from infected insects and the rhizosphere, this group can also associate as endophytes in plant tissues. This study aims to explore endophytic fungi originating from corn (Zea mays L.) in North Sumatra and evaluate their entomopathogenic potential against insects. Plant samples were collected from corn production centers in the lowlands and middlelands of Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai Regencies using a purposive sampling method. Isolation was carried out from healthy plant tissues (roots, stems, and leaves), followed by a pathogenicity test using the insect baiting method against Tenebrio molitor larvae. A total of 59 endophytic fungal isolates were successfully obtained, of which 19 isolates showed pathogenic activity against T. molitor. Isolate EK2_23 (Beauveria sp.) showed the highest performance with mortality and mycosis of 85% and 100%, respectively. Morphological identification revealed the presence of four main genera: Beauveria, Metarhizium, Aspergillus, and Trichoderma. This finding confirms that corn endophytic fungi have the potential to be a prospective source of local biological agents for development as mycoinsecticides to control major corn pests.

Abstract

Petani cabai di Desa Kuta Baru, Kecamatan Tebing Tinggi, menghadapi permasalahan kualitas air irigasi akibat tingginya kandungan besi terlarut pada sumber air yang digunakan. Hasil pengukuran awal menunjukkan kadar besi terlarut sebesar 4,11 miligram per liter, yang menyebabkan terbentuknya endapan, penyumbatan saluran irigasi, serta penurunan kualitas lahan pertanian. Kegiatan ini merupakan Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM)  yang didanai melalui Dana Internal Yayasan (DIYA) Universitas Medan Area dan bertujuan mengembangkan air baku irigasi yang lebih layak melalui penerapan sistem deironing berbasis aerasi dan penyaringan sederhana yang mudah dioperasikan oleh petani. Metode kegiatan meliputi identifikasi kondisi awal kualitas air, perancangan dan pemasangan sistem deironing, pengujian kualitas air sebelum dan sesudah pengolahan, serta pendampingan dalam pengoperasian dan pemeliharaan alat. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan penurunan kadar besi terlarut secara signifikan menjadi 0,32 miligram per liter setelah proses pengolahan, disertai peningkatan kejernihan air irigasi. Perbaikan kualitas air tersebut berdampak positif terhadap kondisi lahan dan mendukung pertumbuhan tanaman cabai yang lebih optimal. Kegiatan ini disimpulkan efektif dalam meningkatkan kualitas air irigasi dan berpotensi diterapkan secara berkelanjutan pada wilayah pertanian dengan permasalahan serupa.
