Abstract

Waru Village has excellent business prospects for Fermented Cassava as a home industry product. The existing problems encountered by the producer were limited product shelf life, the absence of a unique selling proposition, and the lack of brand identity. This community service activity aimed to educate the importance of good packaging and provide training on the production and packaging of Fermented Cassava with various forms of material. It was conducted in March 2022, in Waru Village, Parung Sub-district, using two methods, i.e seminar and demonstration method. The type and research approach used was descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation. The technique applied to measure the profitability index and partners' perceptions was the R/C ratio and Likert scale. The R/C ratio is 1,37, while the simulation demonstrated that producers could increase profits by up to 375% and 416% by repackaging the product with bamboo buckets and plastic boxes. This study concludes that the production of Fermented Cassava is profitable and partners are aware of the product's unique selling propositions.

Abstract

The production of rice as one of the main staple foods in Indonesia has been affected by changes in land-use that has led to a shift in land ownership. It is necessary to discuss whether the profit-sharing applied among farmers, landowners, and laborers provides benefits for farmers. This study aims to determine the characteristics, income, and efficiency of lowland rice farming with both a 50:50 crop sharing between farmers and landowners, and an 80:20 crop sharing between farmers and laborers. This study is based on survey and interviews on the sharecropping practice among rice farming community in the dry season (April – September) tahun 2022 in Sukadiri Subdistrict of Tangerang. Farming parameters are explained descriptively, and the farm efficiency is determined by the revenue-cost (R/C) ratio. A total sample of 44 farmers was determined purposively and proportionately. The findings demonstrated that rice farming gained a total income on the explicit cost of IDR7.311.519 per hectare. The R/C ratio of explicit cost for the sharecropping system is 4,76. Suppose the sharecropping system is replaced with a rent cash payment, the R/C ratio for total cost is 0,83 which results in a loss. This study concludes that the combination of 50:50 crop sharing with the landowner and 80:20 crop sharing with double-tapping laborers is beneficial for the existence of rice farming.

Abstract

Strengthening competitiveness is an important factor in facing the growth of international trade in commodity markets, especially for maize as feed commodities. This research aims to: (1) analyze the level of profit and competitiveness of maize farming, (2) investigate farming components affecting competitiveness, and (3) analyze sensitivity level of profit and competitiveness towards the changes. Data were processed using PAM (Policy Analysis Matrix) and sensitivity analysis. The research was conducted on March- May 2018 in Pacitan with 102 maize farmers as sample respondents, collected proportionally. Sensitivity analysis observed four changes, i.e; increase of purchase price, the structure of labor, optimization of maize productivity, and weakening of rupiah exchange rate. Research findings indicated that (1) maize farming in Pacitan does not generate either financial or economic profits, as well as competitiveness, as shown by PCR and DRCR accounting for 1,033 and 1,024 respectively; (2) the component influencing competitive advantages is purchase price and component influencing comparative advantages is rupiah exchange rate; components simultaneously influencing both advantages are structure of labor and maize productivity; (3) the sensitivity analysis proves that the changes of profit are elastic towards the changes of four components indicated by elasticity indicator with a value of more than one. The changes of competitiveness are elastic only for purchase price, but for other components they are inelastic.

Abstract

Urban agriculture challenges, such as limited land and time constraints, make hydroponic technology ideal to support the development of sustainable agricultural systems. Water pumps are essential for distributing nutrient water to plants in a hydroponic system. Using solar panels as an alternative energy source for hydroponic water pumps reduces operational costs and supports energy conservation efforts. This project aims to implement solar panels on hydroponic water pump machines to create energy independence for farmer groups. The activities cooperated with a farmer group called Hidroponik Generik (HG) in Pesanggrahan from April to October 2024. The implementation method includes training and assistance in applying vertical hydroponic technology and training and assistance in solar power generation for hydroponic systems. Results from community service show that solar-powered pumps reduce electricity costs, enhance income potential, and support sustainable farming. An 800 WP solar panel provides 1600 WH daily, powering pumps for 12-13 hours, cutting electricity usage by 66 percent and reducing monthly expenses by 10 percent. Along with vertical hydroponic installation, this program increases farm income by 15 percent, with a 45 percent improvement in participants' understanding of solar technology. The results of the activities were deemed successful after the partners expressed satisfaction with the conducted activities.

Abstract

The change in land tenure and the shrinking size of agricultural land in Indonesia are recurring discussion topics. For farming to be sustainable, higher profit must be gained, particularly as a backup in the increasing number of small farms. This study aims to examine the farming practices of curly red chili at three farming scale levels: large-scale, mid-scale, and small farms. The observations, surveys, and interviews were conducted to obtain curly red chili production data during the wet season (December 2021 - March 2022) in Megamendung Sub-district. The farm parameters were presented descriptively; conversely, the farm's efficiency was measured using the R/C ratio of explicit cost and implicit costs. As many as 30 farmers are chosen using a purposive sampling technique. The study revealed that the profits gained by farmers depend on the farms scale with the largest share of large-scale farms, followed by mid-scale and small farms, whose R/C ratios on explicit cost were 9.50, 9.03, and 7.50, respectively. Mid-scale farms benefit from the high selling prices of the selected marketing channels; on the other hand, large-scale farms benefit from efficient production factors. Evidence shows that small farms may utilize both production factors and distribution channels less effectively. It is important for the government to consider implementing land consolidation for fragmented land like this. Land consolidation will assist farmers in the process of managing land and production systems in groups to make efficient use of farming production factors.

Abstract

Background: Air quality in Indonesia is declining due to air pollution stemming from high levels of vehicle use and industrial emissions. High levels of air pollution is a trigger for the emergence of free radicals that can harm the health of the skin. Student of Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta innovated natural body scrub products made from tofu waste and indijenes plants without chemicals. The PKM-K Eldara Body Scrub activity was held from June to November 2023. Method: The method used is the diffusion of science and technology, because this activity inventories ideas and knowledge into a product that can be used by the community. Diffusion of Science and technology is done by disseminating knowledge and technology (science and technology) that comes from the source to the recipient or potential user. This activity includes implementation, success indicators and outcomes. Progress can be implemented well through profit and loss indicators and consumer analysis through satisfaction surveys. Result: The result of calculating the profit and loss potential shows a small profit figure, this is due to the small capacity of production tools. Conclusion: Eldara in the eyes of consumers is a product with affordable prices and friendly to the environment, which means this product is in the very good category.
