Abstract

The performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the agribusiness industry, is significantly affected by social capital. Up to this point, studies have yet to delve into the connection between social capital and the entrepreneurial performance of businesses. This research examines the impact of social capital on the sustainable entrepreneurial performance of firms. To analyze the data, the study utilizes a quantitative approach and structural equation modelling (SEM) partial least squares (PLS) with SmartPLS 3.0 software. Data for the study was gathered by distributing an online survey to 650 owners of Agribusiness SMEs in Central Java, chosen through simple random sampling. The survey used a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 7. The data analysis encompasses validity, reliability, and hypothesis testing stages. The data analysis indicated that trust does not significantly influence the entrepreneurial performance of the company. However, social norms have a positive and significant impact on the entrepreneurial performance of the company, and social networks also have a positive and significant effect. The uniqueness of this study lies in constructing a correlation model for the variables of trust, social norms, and networks associated with social capital. The practical implication of this study is to encourage the improvement of Agribusiness SMEs' performance in implementing the circular economy. The theoretical implication of this study is the creation of a new correlation model of social capital in the sustainable entrepreneurial performance of Agribusiness SMEs.

Abstract

Ecological and socio-economic roles can contribute to the productivity of corn commodities. The decreased productivity of corn can be influenced by farmers' perceptions of land use. The aim of the study was to analyze corn farmers' perceptions of different cultivation land uses in terms of ecological and economic benefits. The research was conducted in Central Java Province, which is a main center of corn production. Simple random sampling data from 210 corn farmer respondents were used in this study. Data analysis used in this study was non-parametric analysis of Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that corn farmers' perceptions can influence decisions in adopting land types. Then there are differences in perceptions between corn farmers in adopting land types (paddy field, paddy forest, community forest and community plantation forest) towards ecological and economic benefits. Meanwhile, there is a gap in knowledge about ecological and economic benefits among corn farmers in paddy fields, paddy forest and community forest. The policy makers need to be involved in designing and implementing policies related to sustainable land use for farmers, therefore increasing corn productivity.

Abstract

Increasing corn production requires a supply chain to channel production from farmers to consumers. The supply chain of corn as a raw material for animal feed in Central Java Province is not yet well managed, because each farmer or business is still carried out individually. The aim of the study was to analyze the supply chain picture based on the Food Supply Chain Network and the efficiency of the corn agribusiness supply chain in Central Java. Sampling techniques from farmers using proportional random sampling and snowball sampling methods will lead researchers to the next informant or to related institutions to the final consumer. Data analysis uses the FSCN, Marketing Margin, Farmer's Share and DEA methods. There are 5 corn agribusiness marketing channels in Central Java Province. Marketing margin and farmer's share with Farmer-Cooperative-Consumer chain being the most efficient. Farmer-Village Trader-SubDistrict Trader-District Trader-Consumer marketing channel being the least efficient. Technical efficiency at the farmer level was 2%, at the village trader level 40%, at the subdistrict and district trader levels 37.5%, at the cooperative level 66.67%, at the animal feed company level 40% and at the poultry farmer level 25%.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service program was implemented to empower the Srikandi Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Karangmalang Village, Mijen District, Semarang City, by increasing their capacity to produce and market organic vegetables. This activity aims to strengthen the technical capabilities of group members in organic hydroponic cultivation and expand market access through the application of digital marketing. The implementation methods include preparation, training and practice in Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponic cultivation, social media-based digital marketing training, as well as evaluation and ongoing assistance. The results of the activity showed a 70.6% increase in participants' competence, with the main indicators of success being the ability to assemble hydroponic installations, manage production independently, and market products digitally under the “Srikandi Fresh” brand. In addition to increasing productivity and economic value, this activity also fostered new awareness of sustainable agriculture, strengthened group solidarity, and gave rise to local leadership that is adaptive to modern agricultural technology. This activity has positive implications for strengthening the role of women in local food security based on organic agriculture and the digital economy.

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVESThe robusta coffee farming sector in Semarang Regency, Central Java, plays a crucial role in the local economy, providing employment opportunities and contributing to regional agricultural production. Despite favourable agroecological conditions, the productivity and profits of coffee cultivation in the region vary significantly due to differences in cultivation methods. This study aims to evaluate the economic performance of robusta coffee cultivation in Semarang Regenc y, focusing on farmers' income, profi ts, and financial feasibility through key indicators such as Cost Income Ratio (R/C) and Cost Benefit Ratio (B/C). METHODSThis study employed a quantitative descriptive approach, conducting structured interviews with 69 randomly selected coffee farmers from the districts of Getasan, Bandungan, and Banyubiru. Primary data on production costs, crop yields, selling prices, and income components were collected, supplemented by secondary data from local agricultural offices. The financial feasibility of coffee cultivation is evaluated using R/C and B/C ratios to determine profitability and efficiency. FINDINGS The study found that the average productivity of robusta coffee was 914.7 kg per hectare, with an average selling price of IDR 24,372 per kg. The average income per hectare after deducting variable costs was IDR 13.33 million, with a net profit of IDR 11.30 million per hectare. An R/C ratio of 2.03 indicates that this farming venture is profitable, and a B/C ratio of 1.03 confirms the economic viability of coffee cultivation in the region. CONCLUSIONThe results of the study indicate that robusta coffee cultivation in Semarang Regency remains economically viable and profitable, with efficient production management practices contributing to positive financial outcomes. However, variations in productivity and input management efficiency among farmers pose challenges in maximising profits. Recommendations include enhancing cultivation practices, expanding market access, and stabilising coffee prices to ensure long-term sustainability. This research contributes to the understanding of the economic potential of coffee cultivation and provides practical insights to improve farmers' income and cultivation efficiency.
