Abstract

The area of the Faculty of Sports Science, University of Cenderawasih is the embodiment of Campus Open Space that must consider comfort for the needs of local users. This area consists of lecture buildings, entrepreneurship buildings, football stadiums, as well as several sports arenas such as volleyball, futsal, basketball, tennis and badminton arenas. The Campus of the Faculty of Sports Science has an area of 5 hectares in which there is open space. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of comfort in campus open spaces through measurements of air temperature, air humidity, wind speed influenced by land cover (vegetation, pavement, water elements and building orientation) in the campus environment. The theme of the study is the Comfort Zone which focuses on user comfort to achieve the goal or criteria of thermal comfort of the environment based on the placement of space and human activities in the campus landscape. This research method uses quantitative descriptive methods. Observations were made in several locations on campus open spaces by purposive sampling on each different land cover characteristic using quantitative methods to obtain the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) value. The results showed that uncomfortable locations according to THI value standards were in all locations due to the use of pavement materials that did not absorb heat or vegetation that grew not optimally. This research shows that the presence of vegetation that shades a location can have an impact on decreasing air temperature in that location.

Abstract

The increasing number of motorized vehicles in Jakarta is causing environmental damage and can harm human health. In recent years, the Jakarta local government has the vision to focus on improving the human mobility network, including the pedestrian networks. As a heavily trafficked road, Jalan Kyai Tapa, West Jakarta, is used by many people. However, it may feel uncomfortable to walk there due to heat and sun exposure, which is compounded by extensive pavement coverage. The thermal condition of the pedestrian corridor is essential to create a comfortable walking experience. The objective of this study was to analyze the thermal comfort of the pedestrian corridors at Jalan Kyai Tapa concerning the landscape composition, including vegetation structure and pavement. This study was conducted quantitatively. This study identified the vegetation structure, including the tree species, canopy diameter, and height. Then, we measured the air temperature and relative humidity at predetermined measurement points to evaluate thermal comfort using the Temperature Humidity Index (THI). The results showed that the air temperature ranges from 31.01°C to 31.54°C, and the relative humidity ranges from 56.19% to 57.74%. The average THI value is 28.52 °C, which falls into the comfortable category. Despite having relatively wide canopies and providing shade, the trees in this pedestrian corridor do not seem to improve the thermal environment enough to achieve comfortable conditions for pedestrians. Interestingly, the result shows that, at certain observation times, points without trees had lower air temperatures compared to other spots with trees. Trees may not be the most influential factor in improving pedestrian thermal comfort. Furthermore, the spots near trees with more expansive canopies can be less comfortable than spots near trees with smaller canopies. Tree species and the planting spacing determine the efficiency of trees to improve thermal comfort.

Abstract

The population growth rate is a factor that causes changes in land use that impact land ecology due to increased population activities related to social, economic, and cultural aspects. Land use change aims to develop facilities and infrastructure to meet the population's needs. This research seeks to interpret land-use changes in 1999, 2008, and 2019 and predict land use in the Peusangan watershed in 2030. The map overlay method analyzes land use change in 1999-2008, 2008-2019, and 2019-2030. In predicting land use, this study uses the Cellular Automata approach. The results of the analysis specifically show that the trend of land use change until 2030 is a decrease in the area of forest land use covering an area of 11,014 ha (4.27%), open land covering an area of 31 ha (0.01%), shrubs 6,083 ha (2.36%), and water bodies covering an area of 459 ha (0.18%). On the other hand, it is predicted that in 2030 the Peusangan watershed will see the most significant increase in land use for plantations of 14,225 ha (5.52%), followed by land use of 1,664 ha (0.65%), 817 ha (0.32%), settlements covering 710 ha (0.28%), 132 ha of rice fields (0.05%), and 28 ha of pond land use (0.01%). The results of this study are expected to be input for policymakers regarding land use planning in the Peusangan watershed in the future.
