Abstract

Although an embedded advertisement may not disrupt viewers’ attention to the main narrative fully, some research suggest that this ad is still perceived intrusive. Based on that reason, the present study aimed at investigating the embedded advertisement as micro narratives found in three most watched Indonesian sinetron, Ikatan Cinta, Panggilan, and Bintang Samudra. Advertisements attached in sinetron were classified into three typologies based on how connected they are with the main narrative, including natural, less natural, unnatural. There were two theories underlying this study, namely intrusive narrative from Coe (1986) and intrusive advertisement from Edwards et.al (2002). The current research employed descriptive-qualitative method as the data were in the form of textual and visual elements. The data sources were elicited from the latest episodes of three selected sinetron above from the official application or website and validated through investigator by involving linguistic experts. To analyze the data, the researcher employed a theory by Spradley (1980) that comprises domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme. The results showed that the unnatural advertisement is the most frequent typology appearing in three selected sinetron and is perceived as intrusive as it intrudes on viewers’ accessibility to the sinetron’s content.

Abstract

Errors could likely be an integral part of the learning-teaching process. Writing errors of Arabic, in particular, are considered fundamental since they can act as significant data to determine the level of language proficiency, identify possible difficulties in student's writing, and prepare further teaching aids and materials to meet students' needs and problems. The objective of the current study, therefore, aimed to reveal the common types of errors and their frequencies committed by the students at University of Darussalam Gontor. The subjects of this research were fifteen students that were in the second year of their studies. The instrument utilised tests to elicit the primary data. The findings showed that the most committed error was idafa construction, followed by tenses and agreement. These errors were due to several causes, namely interference of L1, intralingual, overgeneralisation, and ignorance of rule restrictions. To cope with such errors, it is suggested that global errors and individual's concerns must be taken into primary consideration by language teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to explore several types of digital storytelling containing embedded advertising, namely riding the waves, sharing experience, and problem-solution. The data were collected from four X account namely @linskinjournal, @martabakismissu, @kforkinsley, and @glowinbeautyy which are known to frequently incorporating digital storytelling. This study also aims to analyze the level of intrusiveness in digital storytelling based on Nur Aini et al. (2023), which is classified into three types: natural, less natural, and unnatural. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The findings show that sharing experience is the type of digital storytelling most often used by accounts to embed advertising as personal storytelling create authenticity. Problem-solution is the second most frequently used type, while riding the wave is the type of digital storytelling that is rarely used to embed advertising. In addition, based on the level of intrusiveness by Nur Aini et al. (2023), embedded advertising on the digital storytelling is most often natural as the accounts tend to promote their product in a way that is closely related to the story being presented. At the same time, less natural embedded advertising also appears in some posts, where the promotional content is slightly disconnected from the main story.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the application of AIDA theory, first introduced by Strong (1925) consists of Attention, Interest, Desire, Action in @henipurnamasari's YouTube short videos. By analyzing multimodal (visual, text, and narration). This study used a descriptive qualitative approach using Spradley's qualitative data analysis (2016). The data taken from 3 types of videos, namely describing the customer, money brought, and third-party order. The research reveals how each AIDA stage is effectively crafted within a brief format. This Attention hook is established immediately through provocative titles like “Rp 400,000 meatball order for Bu Lurah,” for triggering curiosity. Interest is maintained through a step-by-step cooking demonstration presented in a relatable and personal manner. Desire arises from the narrator’s candid disclosure of slim profit margins, paired with appetizing visuals that evoke empathy and longing. Lastly, Action is softly prompted encouraging likes, subscribes, and shares. These findings demonstrate that the century-old AIDA model remains a powerful tool for structuring persuasive narratives in modern short-format digital media.

Abstract

Storytelling is a strategic tool that conveys meaning in literature and evokes emotional depth, cultural insight, and imaginative expression. In addition, storytelling also drives innovation in various fields such as business and entrepreneurship. However, many students of English literature are unaware that their strengths in narrative thinking can be developed into valuable entrepreneurial skills. This study addresses that gap by designing a storytelling-based Business Model Canvas (BMC) as a learning tool for the Literature and Entrepreneurship course. This study uses Fisher's Narrative Paradigm Theory, which explains Human beings as natural storytellers. Besides, it is supported by Osterwalder's BMC framework. Using a Research and Development (R&D) method adapted from Branch ADDIE, the research produced digital instructional media in the form of videos and an application designed through Canvanizer, Google Sites, and Kodular. These platforms were used to embed narrative thinking into each component of the BMC. The content expert and IT validate the Product. It was tested in a small and a large group trial. Findings show that integrating storytelling into the business modelling process significantly strengthens students' ability to construct and communicate ideas, especially aligning their creativity with practical entrepreneurial thinking. The final product was found to be pedagogically feasible and relevant, contributing to the development of literature students as creative digitalpreneurs. It concludes that narrative approaches can be effectively adapted to entrepreneurship education in the humanities. Therefore, further research suggested exploring cross-disciplinary applications of the model for the long-term impact.

Abstract

The use of technology-assisted tool for interpreting training has been widely used. In early development of interpreting skills, technology can be used to support the in-class limited activities with a more flexible practice. ‘InterpreLab’ emerges as a technology-assisted platform designed to support introductory interpreting training in higher education. This platform can be used as one of the solutions for these critical issues in interpreting pedagogy. This research explores: (1) the feasibility of the ‘InterpreLab’ in interpreting course, and (2) the students’ concerns regarding the use of ‘InterpreLab’ for interpreting practice. This mixed-methods research evaluates learners’ perceptions with the platform’s key features. The findings show that ‘InterpreLab' are generally feasible for supporting the teaching of interpreting. This area is measured in six dimensions, including: interface and visual appeal, usability, content quality, audio and text-to-speech technology, instructional effectiveness, and overall feasibility. Nevertheless, learners also described challenges related to audio and text-to-speech quality issues, navigation and interface limitations, need for feedback, and content availability and variety. The study also highlights the importance of lecturer mediation and curriculum integration in ensuring meaningful adoption of digital tools in interpreting classrooms. These results contribute to ongoing discussions on technological supports in interpreting pedagogy and offer design recommendations for improving ‘InterpreLab’.

Abstract

People must have insecurities. In expressing the insecurities, they have their own ways, either in explicit or implicit ways. When people implicitly express their insecurities, they flout Grice’s four maxims, which generate implicature. Implicature is not only happening in spoken form but written form as well, like in song lyrics. Taylor Swift is a singer/songwriter who pours her personal experiences into lyrics, and Midnights (3am Edition) is her album filled with such experiences. This study aims to discuss the insecurity signs in the Midnights (3am Edition) song lyrics and then identify the types of implicature in those insecurity signs. This study employed psychological insecurity theory from Maslow (1942) and implicature theory from Grice (1989). This study used descriptive qualitative as the method to analyze the data. Among the 73 data found, the insecurity sign number 4 (Feeling emotionally unstable; feeling tension, conflict, etc.) dominated the findings with 28 data. This result ties in with the album’s concept: about ruminations. Generalized implicature dominated findings with 42 data. Generalized implicature is dominantly used for the purpose of the songs’ reception in the market so broader audiences can understand the songs without having to understand the context or background knowledge about Taylor Swift.
