Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are Islamic educational institutions that seek to educate their students to always live by following Islamic law. Based on Law No. 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic boarding schools, Islamic boarding schools function as educational institutions, da'wah, and community empowerment. Islamic boarding schools, as Islamic educational institutions, offer good opportunities to take advantage of the momentum in increasing the market trend of halal products by increasing entrepreneurship-based curricula and being able to collaborate with world industries. Halal product literacy is an important issue in entrepreneurship activities so that Muslim communities become safe and comfortable in consuming products, especially food and beverages as primary needs. This community service activity was carried out by UPN Veteran Jakarta academics and the Sirojul Huda Bogor Islamic Boarding School as partners. The target of this activity is students who are currently studying at the senior high school level at the Sirojul Huda Bogor Islamic Boarding School. The main problem is that the literacy level of Islamic boarding school students is still low, even though they have provided material about halal and haram law in Islam. The objectives of this PKM are (1) to provide education about the world of entrepreneurship by following the concept of Islamic sharia; (2) to provide education and socialization of the mechanism of halal-certified products; (3) increasing motivation and foster an entrepreneurial spirit by following the guidance of the Qur'an and Al Hadith; (4) preparing the students so that after graduation they can live competitively in society independently. The activity method used lectures and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results of these activities show that there is an increase in literacy of halal products and the concept of entrepreneurship by following Islamic law after socialization and education. These have to be carried out sustainably with collaboration and synergy between academics, boarding schools, and the world industry.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are important in advancing the economy. However, among some existing MSME actors, many of them face obstacles in developing their businesses. Some of those obstacles are the lack of competence and expertise, the lack of business networks, and the limited amount of capital. This research aims to design the development of a sharia financing model based on using zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf (ziswaf) funds to develop MSMEs. This research uses qualitative methods by analyzing various data collected from several works of literature related to ziswaf and MSME studies. This research produces a design model for integrated ziswaf management in the MSME development program. This model describes the process flow starting from collecting ziswaf funds, with a distribution process that is adjusted to the characteristics of the funds. ZIS funds are channeled to the procurement of goods and business equipment, as well as to capacity-building programs for MSMEs. The waqf funds are distributed in the form of business capital investment with a mudharabah agreement. The profits received are given to the nazhir according to the agreement, to be managed by the nazhir, and distributed to the mauquf alaih. The entire process is carried out with supervision and monitoring to maintain conformity of procedures with existing rules and regulations. It is hoped that this model can become a new direction for the development of MSMEs by optimizing ziswaf funds in an integrated manner.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, is also recognized as the most generous country according to the World Giving Index 2022. Islamic philanthropy in Indonesia has experienced rapid growth since the reform era, marked by an increased awareness of the importance of professional management to maximize the impact on the underprivileged. Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) is one of the prominent Islamic philanthropic organizations with various initiatives such as Global Qurban and Global Wakaf, which have received positive responses from the Indonesian public. However, in 2022, ACT faced several allegations of financial misconduct, including embezzlement, misuse of donation funds from Boeing, mismanagement of waqf funds, excessive donation deductions, and money laundering. These scandals not only disrupted ACT's financial stability but also led to legal consequences for several of its executives. In Islam, the concept of Maqashid Syariah provides a framework for analyzing phenomena that may harm the Muslim community, including controversies involving ACT. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to examine the ACT controversies through the lens of Maqashid Syariah. Based on this analysis, as an Islamic philanthropic institution entrusted with managing ZISWAF (Zakat, Infaq, Shadaqah, and Waqf) funds, ACT should adhere to the principles of Maqashid Syariah to avoid actions that undermine the protection of intellect, life, and wealth, which are part of the Maqasid al-Khamsah. This study contributes to the literature on Islamic Economics by providing insights into the application of Maqashid Syariah in the context of Islamic philanthropy. The practical implications of this research emphasize the importance of accountability and transparency in the management of ZISWAF funds by Islamic philanthropic organizations, regulators, and the community to ensure compliance with Maqashid Syariah.
