Abstract

Critical thinking skills (CTS) are essential in the 4.0 era. However, the attempts to enhance these skills during learning are still suboptimal, particularly in science education at the junior high school. Gender is believed as one affecting factor on students critical thinking. The research investigated the effects of problem based learning (PBL) student worksheets on students critical thinking from the perspective of gender differences. This quasy experimental research applied pretest-posttest nonequivalent multiple group design. The samples were chosen through purposive sampling, resulting in one male class having 24 students and one female class having 24 students. The research instruments included a lesson plan, a PBL-based student worksheet, and pretest-posttest questions that had been validated. Data analysis uses statistical tests in the form of paired and independent sample t-tests, and N-gain. The analysis indicated that using PBL-based student worksheets increases CTS more effectively in female students than in male students. These are proven by paired and independent sample t-tests showing a significant difference (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000 0.050) with N-gain signifies a moderate increase of 0.6 for male students and a high increase of 0.7 for female students. These findings may serve as recommendations to enhance students critical thinking and as a reference for gender-segregated schools in designing learning programs that optimize the role of each gender

Abstract

Pembelajaran IPA di SMP Kabupaten Batang masih menghadapi keterbatasan sarana laboratorium dan rendahnya frekuensi praktikum, sehingga berdampak pada kurang optimalnya penerapan pembelajaran mendalam. Kondisi ini diperkuat oleh temuan awal bahwa sebagian besar sekolah belum memanfaatkan teknologi digital secara efektif untuk mendukung pembelajaran mendalam. Virtual lab menjadi solusi strategis untuk menjembatani keterbatasan fasilitas sekaligus mendorong pembelajaran IPA yang lebih bermakna, interaktif, dan berpusat pada siswa. Namun demikian, pemanfaatan virtual lab oleh guru IPA masih terbatas akibat minimnya kompetensi pedagogik dan literasi digital. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru IPA SMP Kabupaten Batang dalam merancang dan mengimplementasikan pembelajaran mendalam berbantuan virtual lab. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi identifikasi kebutuhan, workshop pemanfaatan virtual lab, pendampingan penyusunan dan implementasi perangkat pembelajaran, evaluasi, serta monitoring keberlanjutan program. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa 85% guru mengalami peningkatan kemampuan dalam merancang pembelajaran IPA yang sistematis dan selaras dengan prinsip pembelajaran mendalam. Guru berhasil menghasilkan dan mengimplementasikan perangkat pembelajaran berbasis virtual lab, serta menunjukkan peningkatan kualitas proses pembelajaran yang lebih interaktif dan berbasis inkuiri. Program ini juga memperkuat peran MGMP IPA sebagai wadah kolaborasi profesional.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics of the systems thinking abilities of Class X students in the water cycle material across the cognitive and affective domains. The research uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a survey method. The research  sample consis of 80 Class X students from SMA Negeri 10 Semarang, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included a multiple-choice test to measure systems thinking abilities in the cognitive domain and attitude questionnaires to measure the affective domain. The instruments were developed based on a hierarchical systems thinking framework and a systems thinking scale. The data were analyzed descriptively and tested using the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results show that the cognitive domain systems thinking abilities are in the high category, particularly at the analysis level, where more than 70% of students reached the high category, while the synthesis and implementation levels are in the moderate category. The affective systems thinking abilities are generally in the moderate category, with percentages ranging from 52.50% to 81.25%. There is a very strong and significant relationship between the cognitive and affective domains at the same level is considered low to moderate.These findings highlight the need for more context-rich integrative learning to optimize students’ systems thinking abilities.
