Abstract

Oral health is an important part of overall health and can significantly impact daily quality of life. Data indicates that the prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia is 43.6%, though the use of fillings remains low, particularly in Central Java Province. Observations in Kaligawe Village show that many people prefer tooth extraction over fillings due to a lack of understanding of aesthetic filling materials, such as composite resin and Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC), which are more aesthetically pleasing than amalgam. This community service program aims to improve public knowledge of various types of aesthetic filling materials. Methods used include an initial survey, the creation of educational materials, a pretest, counseling sessions, a posttest, and interactive discussions. Results show a significant increase in the average posttest score (71.38) compared to the pretest score (42.07), with a p-value of <0.001. This interactive approach has proven effective in enhancing public understanding of aesthetic dental filling options, enabling them to make more informed health decisions

Abstract

Background: Deflection is one of the properties of the wire that can change if the environmental conditions in the oral cavity are acidic, caused by consuming isotonic drinks. This study aims to determine the difference in deflection of thermal nickel-titanium wire soaked in artificial saliva and isotonic drinks.Method: The type of research used was an in vitro experimental analytic study with a post-only control group design method. The sample used was 36 thermal nickel titanium wire (American Orthodontics) with a wire size of 0.016 inches and divided into 2 groups consisting of the artificial saliva group and the isotonic drink group. Soaking was carried out for 10.5 hours and stored in an incubator at 37oC, then a deflection test was carried out using a Universal Testing Machine. Analysis of the results was carried out using the Independent T-Test in each group after treatment.Result: The results of the study using the Independent T-Test showed a significant difference in the deflection value of the thermal nickel titanium wire in the artificial saliva group and the isotonic drink group of 0.000 (p<0.05).Conclusion: The conclusions obtained in this study indicate that thermal immersion of nickel-titanium wire in the artificial saliva group and the isotonic drink  group  affects  the  deflection  force  in  orthodontic  treatment.

Abstract

Background: The success of bonding quartz fiber posts to root dentin hinges on various factors, including the bonding system. This experimental study aimed to investigate pull-out bond strength (PBS) of quartz fiber post toward root denting using different adhesive systems.Method: Thirty six human teeth (n=12) were embedded in acrylic resin blocks. Crowns were sectioned, leaving the root portion 20mm in length. Root canals were treated with standard endodontic protocols using the rotary instrument, obturated with gutta percha, and prepared for post cementation, leaving a 4mm apical seal. Root canals were prepared uniformly. After simple randomization, samples were divided into three groups according to the adhesive systems (Allcem core dual resin, NOVA resin self-adhesive, and GC FUJI Luting & Lining). Cementation procedures followed to manufacturer instructions. Post cementation was tested for PBS using a Universal Testing Machine (TN20 MD) until the posts were detached. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U post hoc test (α=0.05)Result: The Kruskal-Wallis test indicated significant differences among the groups (P < 0.001), with GC FUJI Luting & Lining showing the significantly lowest PBS.Conclusion: Different cementation materials exhibit varying bond strengths. GC FUJI Luting & Lining provided inferior bond strength, making it the least recommended choice for bonding quartz fiber posts to root dentin.

Abstract

Background: Heat-cured acrylic resin is a material that is often used for the manufacture of removable partial dentures in dentistry because it uses simple equipment, relatively inexpensive, and is easy to repair. Acrylic resin also has a disadvantage, such as the low value of flexural strength so that it can cause the denture to fracture. This study determine the effect of non-dental glass fiber volume fraction on the flexural strength of heat cured acrylic resin.Method: This research are post-test only control group design. Acrylic resins were divided into four groups (6 sample each group), group 1 without the addition of non-dental glass fiber or 0% and heat cured acrylic resin group with the addition of non-dental glass fiber 1%,2%, and 3% (group 2, 3 and 4).Result: The average flexural strength of acrylic resin with a volume fraction of 2% of non-dental glass fiber had the highest value compared to other groups. The results of the Mann-Whitney test from several test groups showed significant differences in the value of flexural strength from each group (p<0.05), except for the 0% and 3% group. Conclusion: There is an effect of volume fraction of non-dental glass fiber on the flexural strength of heat cured acrylic resin.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Periodontitis is a multifactorial inflammatory condition that progressively damages the tooth-supporting structures, including the alveolar bone and periodontal ligament. This process involves a rise in pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6, which are essential agents in the inflammation and tissue destruction. Aloe vera (Aloe vera) and manuka honey are recognized for their ability to reduce inflammation and suppress the release of pro-inflammatory signaling molecules, such as IL-6. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of Aloe vera and Manuka honey in reducing IL-6 level in periodontitis rats.Method: Thirty rats were randomly assigned to four experimental groups: a control group, Aloe vera group, Manuka Honey group, and a group receiving a combination of Aloe vera and Manuka Honey. The Aloe vera and Manuka Honey treatments were administered via a gingival injection at a dose of 150 uL. After five days treatment, the rats were euthanized. An ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) was  conducted on the gingival tissue to measure the concentration of Interleukin-6 (IL-6).Result: The combination of Manuka honey and Aloe Vera significantly reduced IL-6 levels compared to the control group (p=0.000).Conclusion: The combination of Aloe Vera and manuka honey are effectively and  significantly reduced on IL-6 level.
