Abstract

This study outlines the development and evaluation of Breastfeeding Flashcards (BFC) as a tool to support breastfeeding education for pregnant and postpartum mothers. The flashcards are intended for use by midwives, healthcare professionals, and community health workers or cadres. The development process followed the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The BFC development process involved information gathering, storyboard creation, color coding, and card printing. The content and design were validated through consultations with breastfeeding and media experts. The flashcards were then pre-tested with mothers and community health cadres to assess their usability and effectiveness. Post-implementation surveys and interviews revealed significant improvements in cadres’ knowledge, as confirmed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Cadres were able to effectively deliver breastfeeding education using BFC. Feedback from mothers, cadres, and midwives was highly positive. Cadres found the flashcards easy to use, citing the clear information, supportive images, and brief explanations on the back as helpful for communication. They expressed strong willingness to continue using the tool. Mothers appreciated the support from cadres and found the education beneficial. Overall, BFC proved to be an effective tool in supporting cadres’ breastfeeding education efforts. The involvement of trained cadres in delivering breastfeeding education is crucial for the successful integration of strategies aimed at improving breastfeeding practices and increasing breastfeeding coverage. Additionally, the BFC has potential for broader use, including by other health professionals and as an educational resource in health training programs.

Abstract

North Penajam Paser Regency experienced an increase in stunting rates in 2023, reaching 24.6%. According to survey results, the community health workers (kader) of the "Isi Piringku" Program had never received training on balanced nutrition using engaging methods. One interactive training method that can be applied is the Interpersonal Communication (KAP) method. A training activity for community health workers was held at the Pantai Lango Urban Village Meeting Hall with a total of 21 participants. The purpose of this training was to develop the communication skills of the workers using the KAP method. The training was evaluated using a pretest-posttest knowledge questionnaire to assess participants' knowledge before and after the training. The training activity consisted of four stages: the first stage focused on building rapport, the second on play-based learning, the third on learning through play, and the fourth on building commitment. The results of the pretest-posttest responses showed an increase in the cadres' knowledge about balanced nutrition, with an average score rising from 75.71 in the pretest to 93.57 in the posttest. Therefore, the KAP method is highly recommended for implementation in training or health education activities.

Abstract

Maintaining exclusive breastfeeding is very difficult for mothers when returning to work. Most of the participants were women (80%), the age of the participants ranged from 24-46 years, and more than 50% had bachelor's and master's degrees. The average pretest score of the participants was 65.4, while the average posttest score was 76.65. Based on the results of the statistical t-test obtained a value of 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the results of the participant competency test related to breastfeeding before and after the training. In other words, there is a change in the increase in knowledge of the training participants. All participants were very satisfied with the method during the training. More than 80% of participants were very satisfied with the facilitators and the materials presented. This Follow-up Action Plan after training includes 2 main activities, namely socialization of breastfeeding education and formulation of policies in providing children's rights to health and education.
