Abstract

Herbal tea is one of the functional drinks, which is consumed for the purpose of preventing or treating disease. The number of side effects that arise from the consumption of drugs made from synthetic or chemical materials has led to a tendency for people to return to consuming herbal plants as a solution to health problems. The purpose of this study is to make tea from the roots of tampala (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk) and to test the physical and chemical properties, organoleptic examination and determination of antioxidant activity. Testing of physical and chemical properties including water content, ash content and pH of the preparation, organoleptic examination including taste and odor and color of the brewed solution and determination of antioxidant activity was carried out using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil). The results of the physicochemical test of tampala tea showed that a pH of 6.8, water content of 7.63%, ash content of 7.7%. On organoleptic examination, the tea using the brewed water showed a slightly sour taste, a characteristic wood smell and a brownish yellow color. Based on the physical and chemical character of the tampala herbal tea test results, it meets the requirements of SNI No. 3836 of the 2013 National Standardization Agency, while the antioxidant test results of the tampala herbal tea was obtained an IC50 value (Inhibition Concentration 50) of 89.63 ppm, included in the category of strong antioxidant potential, because it is in the category of strong antioxidant potential. in the range of 50-100 ppm.

Abstract

Sargassum belongs to Phaeophyceae is widely distributed in Indonesian waters, including Kabung Island. Seaweed has bioactive compounds that potential to be developed. In the health sector, one of the global problems that still increasing is the bacterial infection. This condition leads us to explore antibiotic from natural resources to overcome this problem. Sargassum grow abundantly in the waters of Kabung Island and this genus has not been utilized by local community. For this reason, the aim of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity from ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island, West Kalimantan. Antibacterial activity test of the ethyl acetate extract against E. coli and S. aureus was conducted using the diffusion method with concentration series of 100; 50; 25; 5; 1; and 0.1 g/mL. While, the assessment of cytotoxic activity was carried out with concentration of 10; 100 and 1000 g/mL. The result showed that ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island only showed antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria. The greatest inhibition zone was 11.59 mm at a concentration of 100 g/mL, while in the cytotoxic test exhibited that the LC50 was more than 1000 ppm, so it was considered into non-toxic category.

Abstract

The increase in side effects due to the use of chemical drugs encourages people to return to nature, utilize the plants around them in dealing with health problems. Red ginger (Z. officinale Var Rubrum) and elephant ginger (Z. officinale var Roscoe) have been used empirically in medicine especially to boost immunity. This study aims to determine the tonic activity of the ethanol extract of red ginger and elephant ginger in vivo using the natatary exhaustin method with white rats (Rattus norvegicus) as test animals. The natural fatigue method was based on the resistance of the test animals to swimming in water after being treated with ethanol extract of red ginger and elephant ginger rhizome at a dose of 70 mg/kg body weight, using Na-CMC solution as a blank and caffeine solution as a positive comparison. Based on research data testing the tonic activity of red ginger and elephant ginger extracts in vivo showed that the tonic activity of red ginger ethanol extract with the swimming endurance of the test animals was for 27.72 seconds, longer than the swimming endurance of the treated animals. with elephant ginger ethanol extract which is only 16.46 seconds.

Abstract

Micro minerals are a number of minerals that the body needs to carry out its functions normally, even if only in very small amounts. The high need for minerals to improve health, especially in handling stunting in children during the growth and development period, encourages the search for food sources that are cheap and easy to consume. Sipunculus nudus is a marine animal that lives immersed in sand where the waters are relatively fertile, and is often found in the East of South Sulawesi region. The aim of this research is to determine the micro mineral content of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn) and iodine (I) in the meat of S. nudus in Samboang waters. Fe and Zn were determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, while iodine was determined using an HPLC instrument. The results showed that the S. nudus sample contained Fe and Zn of 221.43 ppm and 21 ppm respectively, and the mineral Iodine (I) was 14.11 ppm.
