Abstract

Introduction: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a Health Belief Model (HBM)-based Husband Empowerment Module in enhancing husbands' preparedness behaviors for postpartum contraceptive support. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-posttest control group design was conducted at two community health centers in Samarinda, Indonesia. Sixty husbands of third-trimester pregnant women were recruited through a combination of sampling, purposive sampling, and random sampling. Purposive sampling was used to choose the treatment group, and random sampling was used to select the participants, who were assigned to the intervention (n=30) and control (n=30) groups. The intervention group received a comprehensive 12-session HBM-based module delivered through antenatal care visits, home visits, group discussions, and WhatsApp support over three months. Preparedness behavior was measured using validated questionnaires assessing awareness, facilitation ability, and appreciation. Nonparametric statistical analyses were employed. Results: Post-intervention, the treatment group demonstrated significant improvements across all preparedness dimensions: awareness median scores increased from 9.0 to 11.0 (p<0.001), facilitation ability, from 5.0 to 6.0 (p<0.001), and appreciation from 4.0 to 5.0 (p<0.001), while the control group showed no significant changes (all p>0.05). Between-group comparisons revealed substantially higher preparedness in the intervention group with large effect sizes. Notably, 83.3% of intervention participants achieved good facilitation ability compared to 0% at baseline. Conclusions: The HBM-based Husband Empowerment Module effectively enhanced husbands' preparedness for postpartum contraceptive support, suggesting that structured interventions can improve husband involvement in postpartum care and maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

Millions of Indonesian children remain at risk due to the high burden of double malnutrition. Close monitoring of the growth and development status of toddlers is of utmost importance, particularly the role of community health workers in early detection if any growth disorders are observed in toddlers. The purpose of this community engagement is to enhance the understanding of community health workers at integrated health posts (posyandu) in conducting anthropometric measurements and instructing them in evaluating nutritional status based on anthropometric measurements. The methods employed in this training activity include lectures, demonstrations, re-demonstrations, as well as post-training discussions. The results of knowledge and skills assessments among the community health workers, including weighing, measuring height or length, and head circumference measurements, after the training, indicate that the majority of community health workers can accurately perform anthropometric measurements. Training using methods of lecture, discussion, and demonstration-redemonstration is considered effective in enhancing the knowledge and skills of cadres in anthropometric measurements.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Deteksi Dini, Kanker Serviks, Kesehatan Reproduksi, Pekerja Migran  ABSTRACT  Cervical cancer affects nearly 1.4 million women worldwide and is the 2nd most common female reproductive cancer. In Indonesia, the incidence of cervical cancer is 14.1 per 100,000. The International Community Service aimed to increase the knowledge and awareness of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia regarding the early detection of cervical cancer. The problem experienced by female Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia was that the level of knowledge and awareness regarding early detection of cervical cancer was still low. The method used was education and cervical cancer screening which was carried out in 3 stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. The planning stage involved coordinating the International Community Service team consisting of a doctor of medical science, an ob-gyn specialist, midwives,   a reproductive health nurse, and Non-Government organizations of Sharing, preparing learning media, and identifying the learning needs of International Community Service partners. The implementation stage, namely providing education and screening, was carried out on Sunday 27 May 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Indonesian School, attended by 102 Indonesian migrant workers aged 14 - 63. Providing education was carried out using 2 methods, namely counseling and lectures using PowerPoint and e-booklet media. The counseling method was carried out individually for 21 female Indonesian migrant workers who were identified as having a high risk of suffering from cervical cancer. Education using the lecture method was conducted for female Indonesian migrant workers and their families. The evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge and awareness of female Indonesian migrant workers and their families about the importance of early detection of cervical cancer. The Indonesian Embassy is expected to facilitate health services to carry out early detection of cervical cancer in the form of VIA tests and regular Pap smears at least once a year for workers who are >15 years old and have had sexual relations.. Keyword: Early Detection, Cervical Cancer, Reproductive Health, Migrant Worker

Abstract

Menopausal period is the period of permanent cessation of menstruation due to reduced or lost ovarian activity. One of the effects of decline estrogen levels during menopause is atropic vulvovaginitis. Consumption of phytoestrogens can reduce menopausal symptoms. Phytoestrogen is found in vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes and red melon. The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of red melon juice and tomato on the increase of vaginal wall thickness in menopausal rats. This study revealed an alternative of phytoestrogen sources that is more effective to reduce menopausal symptoms, especially those related to vaginal atrophy to improve the quality of life of menopausal women. Subjects of this study were 27 ovariectomized Wistar strain Rattus norvegicus which were s divided into 3 groups randomly, one control group and two treatment groups with tomato juice and red melon juice at a dose of 330 mg/kgBW/day administered for 28 days. The variable of this study were the thickness of the vaginal wall which was precipitated by Hematoxiline Eosine. The highest vaginal wall thickness was found in the treatment group of red melon juice of 879.89 ± 70.52 µm and the lowest of the control group (K) of 643.3 ± 58.33 µm. The results of Anova test showed that there was a significant difference between control group and treatment groups, the tomato juice and red melon juice with a dose of 330 mg/kgBW/day, so it can be concluded that red melon juice with a dose of 330mg/Kg BW/day has the best effect in increasing the thickness of vaginal wall of menopausal rats as compared with tomato juice.
