Abstract

Abstract, Urban Forest is one of the Public Green Open Space which is controlling atmosfer, water, and soil pollution. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the emission substances of greenhouse gas sources. Increased concentration of CO2, which comes from burning fuel oil and gas, can cause various diseases, such as upper respiratory tract infections, heart disease, cancer and etc. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce CO2 emissions, which one of them is through the utilization of Public Green Open Space, especially urban forest. Jambi City as the most populous area in Jambi Province has high CO2 emission potential. The purpose of this research is to predict the potential of tree vegetation in urban forest in Jambi City in reducing CO2 gas. The research was conducted in 3 locations: Bagan Pete Urban Forest, Muhammad Sabki Urban Forest, and Pine Forest Kenali. The vegetation analysis was performed using the Quadrant Method, where the 10 x 10 m observation plot was determined randomly. Vegetation analysis at each location was conducted to obtain basal area, which then determined the potential of CO2 emission reduction. The basal area of the trees vegetation at each location was 72,72 m2/Ha, 25,45 m2/Ha and 5,12 m2/Ha. Reduction of CO2 of tree vegetation in urban forest in each location in sequence was 41386 Ton/Ha/Year, 14482.93 Ton/Ha/Year, 2916.94 Tons/Ha/Year. Bagan Pete Urban Forest has the highest reduction potential. Based on this research, total carbon dioxide emission reduction potential through urban forest in Jambi City was 58785,87 Ton/Ha/Year.

Abstract

Abstract

The waste management problem in Indonesia, especially in Sungai Penuh City remains a complex and ongoing challenge. The increasing population causes a continuous rise in waste volume, negatively impacting environmental quality and community activities. The x waste bank was established as an initiative to enhance education and community involvement in waste management and recycling with the goal of creating a clean, healthy and comfortable environment in Sungai Penuh City. This study shows that the composition of inorganic waste bank at X waste bank varies, including plastic, paper, metal and other types of waste. Each type of waste exhibits different generation patterns each month. Paper waste is the largest contributor, accounting for 69% of the total waste collected from January to June. Next is plastic waste, the second largest contributor at 15%. The remaining two types, metal waste and other waste, have relatively smaller proportions amounting to 8% of the total. Additionally, one point to emphasize is the need to increase the service performance at X waste bank and new facilities that are currently unavailable, to encourage more residents of Sungai Penuh City. Based on the ranking results calculated using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methode, there is one point that needs to be emphasized in order to improve service performance at Waste Bank X, namely by adding new facilities that are not yet available.

Abstract

Air pollution in Jambi City, due to the increasing PM2.5, often exceeds the national quality standards. This situation requires a uniform monitoring solution, since the number of government reference stations is limited. An IoT-based monitoring system using low-cost sensors can be an alternative, which are flexible and real-time monitoring. We developed an IoT-based monitoring system using two low-cost sensors (PMS5003 and PMS7003), which were collocated with and validated against the BAM-1020 reference instrument operated by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at the Sultan Thaha Jambi Climatology Station. This quantitative study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the two sensors against the reference instrument for the period December 2025 to January 2026. The analysis was carried out using the statistical parameters MBE, MAE, RMSE, the correlation coefficient (r), and the coefficient of determination (R²), followed by a linear regression-based correction of the sensor readings. The results showed that both sensors were able to follow the pattern of changes in PM2.5 concentration quite well (R2 = 0.60 for PMS5003 and 0.59 for PMS7003), although they tended to produce higher values (overestimate). The PMS7003 sensor showed slightly better accuracy with a lower error rate (MBE=10.46; MAE=12.53; RMSE=18.02 µg/m3) compared to the PMS5003 (MBE=11.84; MAE=13.60; RMSE=19.60 µg/m3). This overestimation is consistent with the influence of high relative humidity and the technical limitation of light-scattering sensors, which cannot distinguish solid particles from water droplets, as reported in previous studies. Overall, both sensors are reliable for real-time monitoring, but still require further calibration.

Abstract

Air pollution, particularly particles with a diameter of less or equal than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5), has become an important global health and environmental problem. Jambi City in Sumatra is highly susceptible to this issue, both locally and particularly influenced by forest fires. As early studies were conducted over a short period, this study examined the meteorological factors that influenced PM2.5 levels and estimated the pollutant transport pathways over two years in the post-COVID-19 period (2023-2024). The methods employed were time-series analysis, scatter-plot evaluation, multiple linear regression analysis, and backward trajectory modeling using HYSPLIT. The results show that the average PM2.5 concentration in 2023 (30.53 µg/m³) was higher than in 2024 (25.36 µg/m³), with night-time levels generally exceeding day-time levels. 3.69% of the days exceeded Indonesia’s daily air quality standard, while 90.83% surpassed the stricter WHO guideline. Meteorological factors explained only 23–38% of PM2.5, with temperature positively correlated, wind speed showing mixed effects, and humidity and rainfall negatively correlated.. The major PM₂.₅ sources influenced by the southeast–South Sumatra, particularly South Sumatra, highlighting the strong stimulus of transboundary emissions alongside local sources. In the future, studies focusing on chemistry-based source apportionment are needed to accurately separate each contributing source.

Abstract

An alternative monitoring tool of fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅) is required to support air quality management. It is due to the limited availability and high cost of high-standard instruments that encouraged the use of low-cost sensors based on the Internet of Things. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the PMS5003 and PMS9003 sensors against reference instrument of the Met One ES-642 operated by the Jambi City Environmental Agency, as well as to analyze the relationship between temperature and relative humidity with the measurement results. The study used a quantitative design with field observations conducted over 25 days during April–May 2026. Evaluation was carried out using descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation test, Friedman test, coefficient of determination, MBE, MAE, RMSE, and conversion of PM₂.₅ concentration into the Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU). The results show that both sensors were able to capture the pattern of PM₂.₅ concentration changes, but tended to produce higher values than the reference instrument. PMS5003 had an MBE of 6.17 µg/m³, MAE of 17.34 µg/m³, RMSE of 23.53 µg/m³, and R² of 0.12, while PMS9003 had an MBE of 10.12 µg/m³, MAE of 18.40 µg/m³, RMSE of 27.16 µg/m³, and R² of 0.11. Relative humidity showed a moderate positive relationship, while temperature showed a weak negative relationship. Low-cost sensors have the potential to be used for indicative monitoring, but their interpretation must take measurement bias and humidity conditions into account.
