Abstract

Watubangga Subdistrict is one of the subdistricts in Baruga District, Kendari City which has a very potential area for the development of livestock businesses, specifically the super free-range chicken business. The service aims to provide understanding to the Mahika Mandiri livestock group regarding Strengthening Capacity and Group Dynamics, Maintenance Management, Housing and Sanitation, and Technical Guidance on Making Hatchery Machines and Their Use with the duration of the service from September to October 2022. The results of the service can provide benefits regarding strengthening capacity and group dynamics, changing the way farmers manage maintenance, housing and sanitation, and livestock groups that are members of the Mahika Mandiri group can make hatching machines and how to use them.

Abstract

Pemanasan pada suhu dan waktu optimum dapat meningkatkan aktivitas antioksidan pada madu apis dan trigona karena meningkatnya total fenolik, total flavonoid dan pigmen coklat. Kemampuan antioksidan dapat diukur melalui kemampuan menangkap radikal oleh DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl).  Tujuan penelitian ini untuk membandingkan perubahan aktivitas antioksidan melalui parameter penangkapan radikal DPPH serta pigmen coklat pada 5 jenis madu apis dan 5 jenis madu trigona dari kota Bogor, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, dan Lombok pada sebelum dan sesudah dipanaskan yang diukur dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis.  Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan persen inhibisi baik pada madu jenis apis maupun pada madu jenis trigona, cenderung mengalami peningkatan seiring dengan pertambahan suhu dan waktu pemanasan.  Pigmen coklat didapatkan cenderung mengalami peningkatan seiring dengan pertambahan suhu dan waktu pemanasan.  Kemampuan penangkapan radikal DPPH paling tinggi terdapat pada madu jenis trigona asal Lombok dengan nilai inhibisi 93% dan IC50 sebesar 3.435 ± 29,3 ppm dengan persentase kenaikan 59,1 % pada suhu 50o C selama 9 hari.   Dengan demikian, madu jenis Apis dan Trigona memiliki senyawa bioaktif  dengan kemampuan menangkap radikal DPPH diantaranya terbentuknya pigmen coklat serta berpotensi meningkat kemampuan antioksidannya melalui pemanasan pada suhu tertentu.

Abstract

Pengetahuan lokal masyarakat adat merupakan warisan budaya yang memiliki nilai praktis dalam pengelolaan sumber daya, termasuk dalam bidang peternakan. Komunitas adat di Wakatobi memiliki kearifan tradisional dalam penyediaan pakan ternak berbasis sumber daya lokal yang belum banyak tereksplorasi secara ilmiah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis bentuk pengetahuan lokal mengenai nutrisi pakan ternak serta bagaimana pengetahuan tersebut diwariskan dan diterapkan dalam praktik peternakan tradisional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif etnografi dengan teknik observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi pada kelompok peternak tradisional di Kecamatan Binongko, Kabupaten Wakatobi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat adat memiliki pemahaman yang mendalam tentang jenis-jenis tanaman lokal seperti daun kelapa muda, rumput laut kering, dan ampas sagu sebagai sumber pakan kaya serat dan energi. Pengetahuan ini diwariskan secara lisan antar generasi dan didasarkan pada pengalaman empirik serta pengamatan terhadap kondisi kesehatan dan pertumbuhan ternak. Selain itu, terdapat praktik kombinasi pakan yang mengacu pada musim dan kondisi lingkungan. Pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa meskipun metode ini bersifat tradisional, kandungan nutrisi dan efektivitasnya dapat dibandingkan dengan pakan modern dalam konteks keberlanjutan dan ketersediaan lokal. Studi ini merekomendasikan pelestarian dan integrasi pengetahuan lokal ke dalam kebijakan pembangunan peternakan berkelanjutan di daerah kepulauan.

Abstract

Kambing kacang merupakan salah satu jenis ternak lokal yang memiliki peranan penting dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan protein hewani masyarakat Indonesia, khususnya di wilayah pedesaan. Salah satu tantangan utama dalam budidaya kambing kacang adalah keterbatasan pakan berkualitas, terutama pada musim kemarau. Hijauan lokal seperti daun lamtoro, turi, gamal, dan rumput gajah telah lama digunakan sebagai sumber pakan alternatif karena ketersediaannya yang melimpah dan biaya yang rendah. Studi literatur ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kandungan nutrisi berbagai hijauan lokal dan pengaruhnya terhadap daya cerna serta kinerja produksi kambing kacang. Kajian dilakukan dengan menelaah hasil-hasil penelitian terdahulu terkait komposisi nutrisi, tingkat kecernaan, konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan, dan efisiensi konversi pakan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa hijauan lokal umumnya memiliki kandungan protein kasar yang cukup tinggi, terutama pada tanaman leguminosa, meskipun kandungan serat kasarnya juga perlu diperhatikan karena dapat memengaruhi daya cerna. Kombinasi hijauan lokal dengan bahan tambahan seperti konsentrat atau fermentasi mampu meningkatkan nilai nutrisi dan performa ternak. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan hijauan lokal secara optimal dapat meningkatkan produktivitas kambing kacang secara berkelanjutan dengan mempertimbangkan aspek formulasi ransum yang seimbang.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the production performance of commercial laying hens at Kelompok Usaha Tiga Putri using key indicators, including feed consumption, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Hen Day Production (HDP), egg weight, and mortality rate. A quantitative descriptive case study design was employed. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and production recording over a 30-day period involving 60 laying hens. The results indicate that feed consumption was relatively stable, with a total intake of 208,630 g and minimal feed residue, reflecting efficient feeding management. The average FCR value was 2.2, indicating good feed utilization efficiency. The average HDP reached 88%, categorized as high and within commercial production standards. Egg weight remained consistent at 59–60 g/egg, classified as medium to large size. The mortality rate was low at 2%, indicating favorable flock health conditions. Overall, the production system demonstrated good management efficiency in supporting laying hen productivity. However, improvement is still required in feed formulation, ration quality optimization, and housing environmental control to further enhance production efficiency and sustainability. The findings provide practical insights for improving laying hen management in small to medium-scale commercial poultry farms.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam memanfaatkan jerami padi menjadi produk bernilai ekonomi guna meningkatkan pendapatan petani padi sawah di Desa Sindang Kasih, Kecamatan Ranomeeto Barat, Kabupaten Konawe Selatan. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi petani adalah rendahnya pemanfaatan jerami padi karena sebagian besar jerami dibakar atau dibiarkan membusuk di lahan sehingga belum memberikan nilai tambah ekonomi. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi sosialisasi, penyuluhan, diskusi kelompok tani, serta identifikasi masalah melalui wawancara dan observasi lapangan. Materi yang diberikan mencakup manfaat jerami, teknik pengolahan jerami menjadi pakan ternak, pupuk organik, media tanam jamur serta gambaran tambahan pendapatan yang dapat diperoleh petani. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam memanfaatkan jerami masih rendah, namun kegiatan penyuluhan mampu meningkatkan pemahaman petani mengenai potensi ekonomi jerami padi. Petani mulai memahami bahwa jerami dapat dimanfaatkan untuk mengurangi biaya produksi, meningkatkan kesuburan tanah, serta menjadi sumber pendapatan tambahan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan mampu mendorong perubahan pola pikir petani terhadap jerami sebagai sumber daya ekonomi yang mendukung pertanian berkelanjutan dan peningkatan kesejahteraan petani.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types of forage and determine the botanical composition and diversity of forage in swampland as a natural pasture in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. The measurement and sampling of forage and the measurement of botanical composition and diversity were conducted using a non-probability approach, specifically purposive sampling. Sampling was carried out using quadrants spread out, which were thrown 50 times using the dry weight rank method. The forage identified on natural pastures in Tandung Village, Tinambung District, Polewali Mandar Regency is 15 forage species, including six grasses, three legumes, and six weeds. Based on the analysis of botanical composition, forages with the highest SDR values were Spartina anglica, Agrortis stolonifera, and Cyperus rotundus. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H′) was 2.29, with a medium category, Shimpson's index (C) had a value of 0.12, with a category of no dominating species, the evenness of species (E) was 0.84, with a stable category, and the species richness index (Dmg) was 1.37, with a medium-low category.

Abstract

Feeding is a key factor in ruminant livestock production systems, often ignoring the variations in individual nutritional needs of livestock, reducing efficiency and increasing feed waste. Therefore, this study aims to examine and develop a precision feeding technology model concept for ruminant livestock based on nutritional sensors through a descriptive-interpretive approach based on the latest scientific literature. The results show that the use of nutritional sensors, rumen sensors, feed consumption sensors, and feeding behavior sensors allows for real-time monitoring of livestock physiological conditions and nutritional status. Integration of sensor data into an adaptive nutrition model has been shown to improve the accuracy of estimating individual nutritional requirements, reduce the risk of overfeeding and underfeeding, and increase feed efficiency. Further discussion shows that although precision feeding technology has developed rapidly, its application is still dominated by intensive livestock systems in developed countries.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the body weight characteristics of Kacang goats based on sex and to determine the level of body weight variation in Kacang goats in Soropia Subdistrict, Konawe Regency. The study was conducted from September to October 2025 using a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The study sample consisted of 74 male and female Kacang goats ranging in age from 6 months to over 24 months. Data collection was performed through direct body weight measurements using a digital scale with a precision of 0.1 kg. Data analysis was performed descriptively to obtain the mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation, while differences in body weight between male and female goats were analyzed using a t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 20. The results of the study showed that the average body weight of male Kacang goats was 16.41 ± 1.31 kg with a coefficient of variation of 7.97%, while female Kacang goats had an average body weight of 15.89 ± 1.19 kg with a coefficient of variation of 7.46%. Statistical test results indicate a significant difference (P<0.05) between the body weights of male and female Kacang goats. Male goats tend to have higher body weights compared to female goats due to physiological and hormonal factors, particularly testosterone, which supports muscle and body growth. The low coefficient of variation indicates that the Kacang goat population exhibits a fairly high level of growth uniformity. This study concludes that sex has a significant effect on the body weight of Kacang goats in Soropia Subdistrict and that the livestock population exhibits relatively homogeneous growth characteristics.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the production cost structure, revenue, income, and financial feasibility of the commercial laying hen enterprise operated by PT Mitra Sejati in Konda District, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The research was conducted from July to August 2025 using a quantitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with the owner and employees, documentation of production records, and analysis of supporting secondary data. The variables analyzed included farm profile, production resources, investment costs, production costs, revenue, income, and financial feasibility using income analysis, Revenue–Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio), and Benefit–Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio). The results showed that PT Mitra Sejati experienced significant business development, increasing from 3,000 laying hens in 2023 to 8,000 birds in 2025, with 4,200 productive hens producing approximately 140 trays of eggs per day. The total investment cost reached IDR 254,800,000, while total production costs during one 18-month production cycle amounted to IDR 3,736,020,857. Total revenue obtained from egg sales, culled hens, and poultry manure reached IDR 3,979,400,000, resulting in a net income of IDR 243,379,143 or an average monthly income of IDR 13,521,064. The financial feasibility analysis indicated an R/C Ratio value of 1.07 and a B/C Ratio value of 0.07, demonstrating that the enterprise was economically feasible and generated positive returns. However, feed costs represented the largest production expenditure, accounting for approximately 70% of total costs, indicating that feed efficiency improvement remains a major strategy for increasing profitability. Overall, PT Mitra Sejati’s commercial laying hen enterprise has good development prospects, supported by effective production management, diversified revenue sources, and continuous improvement in operational efficiency.
