Abstract

The COVID-19 cases in Palembang are still increasing every day. This pandemic has forced the adaptation of the "New Normal" lifestyle, which will have an impact on communicable and non-communicable diseases. The Sinovac vaccine used in the COVID-19 vaccination program for Health Care Workers (HCW), which is a top priority, is still a new vaccine, so a survey of complaints and the determinant is important. This study aimed to survey complaints and the determinant of Post COVID-19 Vaccination (Sinovac) Adverse Events among HCW. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Palembang between June and August 2021 on 414 HCWs who received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. The instrument consisted of demographic characteristics, marital status, distance to health care facilities, Body Mass Index (BMI), diet, sleep quality, anxiety, and some medical histories. Overall, although many, all complaints were classified as mild. There was a significant relationship between age, anxiety, and history of food allergy with Post COVID-19 Vaccination Adverse Events (p-value = 0.003; 0.017; 0.050), and anxiety was the determinant of the adverse events (p-value < 0.05). However, there was a significant relationship between age, anxiety, and history of food allergy with Post COVID-19 Vaccination Adverse Events indicates that these factors need to be considered in determining the standard operational procedure for the next vaccination. While there was no significant relationship between obesity, diet, sleep quality, history of drug allergy, atopic disease, hypertension, and dyspepsia syndrome are expected to increase public knowledge and confidence so there will be no worries about receiving the vaccine.

Abstract

Agroforestry is a land management approach that combines agricultural crops with woody plants to improve land production and community well-being. This study seeks to examine the typology of agroforestry and its contribution in promoting sustainable agriculture within the Community Forest (HKm) Kibuk, located in Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra. The research methodology employed is a mixed methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were collected using field observations, interviews with 23 members of the forest farmer group, and an analysis of land cover alterations from 2016 to 2020. The research findings indicate the implementation of six agroforestry types in HKm Kibuk, predominantly featuring coffee trees (Arabica and Robusta) with protective species like as avocado and acacia, in addition to understorey crops like horticultural vegetables. Complex agroforestry systems incorporating diverse shade tree species possess greater potential for enhancing ecosystem resilience and augmenting carbon sequestration capabilities than simplistic agroforestry models. The primary problems encountered are the farmers' lack technical expertise and restricted market access. Consequently, it is essential to adopt measures that augment farmers' capabilities via training, legislative incentives, and the fortification of financing schemes to ensure the sustainability of implemented agroforestry systems.

Abstract

The low selling price of tea in the country by PTPN 7 Regional 1 Gunung Dempo Pagar Alam is currently causing the selling price of tea plant shoots to be increasingly cheaper as indicated by the decreasing number of farming revenues and the low farming income received by the state-owned company. The aim of this research is to describe the farming performance carried out by PTPN 7. Apart from that, the main aim of this research is to analyze the value of tea farming starting from the value of farming revenues, farming costs and farming income. The research results show that that tea farming is still feasible and profitable to continue to be developed. This is evidenced by the B/C ratio value which exceeds 1, which indicates that each unit cost incurred still generates profit. In addition, the R/C ratio value in all PTPN 7 plantation divisions ranges from, which means that for every IDR 1 of total farming costs incurred, the company earns revenue of Rp 1,24. Thus, tea farming at the research location still makes a positive contribution to the company’s income and has good sustainability prospects.

Abstract

Compost production in Indonesia is often hampered by conventional methods that rely on manual mixing, resulting in lengthy processing times, high labor requirements, and inconsistent compost quality. This study aimed to develop a mechanical compost mixer system featuring an innovative flow gate in a dual-brick-bin setup. The innovation is designed to improve mixing efficiency, mixture homogeneity, and energy consumption. The research was conducted in Tanjung Tebal Village, Lahat Regency, from March to June 2024, using materials such as household organic waste, animal manure, coffee husks, dry leaves, fresh leaves, and the EM4 bioactivator. The methodology investigated using a comparison of a 9HP gasoline engine and equipped with the innovative flow gate to manual methods. Parameters compared include mixing time, energy consumption, homogeneity distribution, and residual material. The results show the mechanical system reduced mixing time by up to 30% from an average of 45 minutes using manual methods to 30 minutes, mixture homogeneity increased to 95% compared to 70% with manual methods, while residual material decreased from 15% to 6%. The flow gate innovation in the dual-brick-bin system proved effective in enhancing the efficiency of the compost mixing process. Implementation of this technology has the potential to support organic waste management in rural areas, reduce environmental pollution, and promote sustainable agriculture. Further research is recommended to evaluate the system’s efficiency on a larger scale.

Abstract

Abstract. Damiri N, Fenton AR, Irsan C, Oktaviani, Fadly R, Pratama R, Mulawarman, Arinafril, Rahim SE. 2025. Utilization of medicinal plant extracts to reduce the mosaic disease complex of chili plant. Biodiversitas 26: 1303-1309. Viral diseases lead to substantial yield losses in chili cultivation, with the mosaic disease complex being one the most serious effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of medicinal plant extracts in protecting chili plants against mosaic disease complex in the field. This research was conducted at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The research was desgined in a factorial randomized block. The first factor was medicinal plant extracts: A. Annona muricata leaf extract; B. Datura metel leaf extract; C. Jatropha curcas leaf extract; D. Pachyrhizus erosus leaf extract; E. Azadirachta indica leaf extract; J. control. The second factor was the interval of application time: one week (W1), two weeks (W2), and three weeks (W3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The extracts were sprayed at 2% concentration on chili plants. Results showed that the application of medicinal plant leaf extracts, combined with different application intervals, effectively suppresses the mosaic disease complex in chili plants. Among the treatments, extracts of D. metel and A. indica applied at two-week intervals resulted in the lowest incidence and severity of mosaic disease, both in terms of percentage and intensity. Additionally, treated plants exhibited greater fruit yield and increased plant height compared to the control group. The effectiveness of D. metel and A. indica as biopesticides is attributed to their potent bioactive compounds. Notably, applying these extracts at two-week intervals reduced mosaic disease complex attacks to just 12.02%. Further research should be conducted to optimize application methods and assess long-term effects on crop productivity.
