Abstract

UNO card game-based learning media have been developed with various modifications. Therefore, there is a need for studies that describe the role and meaning of the symbols used in UNO card media on students' understanding. The purpose of this study is to describe the profile of students' understanding who were stimulated by symbols of meaning in the PLANTA-FUN card game media on plant classification material. The PLANTA-FUN card game media is a modification of the UNO card game created by combining the colors and images of the key-living creatures. This research was conducted using Mixed Method Research (quantitative-qualitative). Pre-test and post-test to determine students' understanding of classifying the plants. In addition, interviews were also conducted to evaluate students' understanding of the meaning of the symbols. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, the t-value (8.612) > the t-table (2.101). So it can be seen that there was an increase in students' understanding after learning using the PLANTA-FUN card game media. Based on the interview, symbols of meaning in the form of images and colors on the PLANTA-FUN card game media can help stimulate students to remember and think. The key character images of plants used in this media can naturally visualize plants so that students can quickly identify the characteristics that appear in these plants. At the same time, the color symbols that represent groups of living things can quickly stimulate students in recalling groups of plants. Combining these two symbols of meaning can improve students' understanding of plant classification learning material.

Abstract

This article is the result of a book review of a work by Stefano Gattei. The starting point of Popper's view is that "almost every phase of our scientific development is under metaphysical rule, that is, ideas that are tested, ideas which determine not only what problems we need to explain, but also what kinds of answers we will consider to be one that is important or satisfactory or accepted, and as a remedy, or guarantee, of a previous answer". Popper's indeterminism is important because Popper's custom begins by considering an intuitive Laplacian view of determinism: "the world is like a motion picture film: or a projected image. Parts of the film have proved to be the past. And unproven people are the past. front". Popper has always been claimed to be a metaphysical realist: to him, to be a realist means to think, in covenant with common sense, that the world of his existence is independent of human beings. It means, "my existence will end without the world coming to an end too". As well as other metaphysical positions, realism is a non-testable conjecture: "realism is neither proven nor disproved".

Abstract

This study explores the thinking processes of Class V students at SDN Buraen 1, South Amarasi District, Kupang Regency, through the 10-step numeracy learning model called Dasalitnum. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved nine students representing the red, yellow, and green zones based on their mastery of mathematical concepts. Data were collected during Mathematics lessons in the odd semester of 2024/2025. The findings indicate that the Dasalitnum approach effectively enhances students’ thinking processes in number material. Red zone students progressed from guessing to understanding problems with guidance, yellow zone students began to think independently and select solution strategies, while green zone students demonstrated critical and reflective thinking. Overall, Dasalitnum supports students in contextual problem understanding, identifying key information, evaluating, and revising solutions. This strategy strengthens numerical mindsets and is relevant for schools with low numeracy achievement.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop and evaluate a PSADS-based “Find Objects” learning media that is valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the critical thinking skills of third-grade elementary school students in mathematics. Methodology: The study employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, teacher and student questionnaires, classroom observations, and critical thinking tests. The test instruments were developed based on the FRISCO critical thinking indicators. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and qualitative analysis using MAXQDA 2020 software. Main Findings: The PSADS-based “Find Objects” learning media was categorized as feasible to very feasible by material, instructional design, and practitioner experts. Teacher and student responses indicated a high level of practicality. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ critical thinking skills, with a mean score increase of 14.27 points. The paired sample t-test confirmed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05). Novelty/Originality of this study: This study fills a research gap in elementary mathematics education, where prior studies have largely emphasized instructional models or learning outcomes without integrating concrete visual media to systematically train critical thinking processes. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the PSADS learning stages with a “Find Objects” card-based media that engages students in structured object-search, analysis, discussion, and reflection activities, thereby emphasizing critical thinking development rather than learning outcomes alone.
