Abstract

Abstract

Adequate macronutrients and micronutrients during pregnancy can support optimal fetal growth and development in addition to meeting the needs of the mother to ensure a healthy pregnancy.  The region of residence is one of the factors that contribute to determining how nutrition is fulfilled in groups of pregnant women. This study aims to compare the adequacy of macronutrients and micronutrients between pregnant women in urban and rural areas. This study involved 50 pregnant women, 25 in urban areas and 25 in rural areas. Nutritional information was obtained using a food recall questionnaire that was assessed for 3 days, namely on 2 working days (not consecutive) and 1 day off and also using a food frequency questioner (FFQ). Data was analyzed using Chi Square and Results showed a difference in carbohydrate (p=0.049) and protein (p=0.045) consumption between urban and rural pregnant women, while energy (p=0.053) and fat (p=0.056) showed no difference in adequacy. For micronutrients, Vitamin A (p=0.043) and B12 (p=0.042) consumption showed differences between urban and rural pregnant women, while for vitamin C (p=0.065), vitamin B1 (p=0.078), vitamin B2 (p=0.084), B3 (p=0.056), B6 (p=0.075), E (p=0.088), Iron (p=0.052), Folic acid (p=0.067), Calcium (p=0.054), Phosphorus (p=0.055), fiber (p=0.079), showed no difference in consumption between urban and rural pregnant women. The consumption of micronutrients and macronutrients of pregnant women in rural and urban areas showed less intake than recommended. Nutrition education needs to be improved not only focusing on pregnant women but also on adolescent groups, pre-conception period so that early on good consumption patterns have been formed which will always be applied throughout life.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between pregnant women's compliance in consuming iron tablets and their hemoglobin levels, focusing on evidence from previous qualitative studies and literature reviews. Iron supplementation is a critical intervention for preventing anemia during pregnancy, which is a major public health concern worldwide, including in Indonesia. Non-compliance in iron tablet consumption is often linked to various factors such as side effects, lack of knowledge, cultural beliefs, and accessibility issues. Through a qualitative literature review approach, this study synthesizes findings from multiple scholarly articles, reports, and case studies to identify patterns, barriers, and facilitators affecting compliance among pregnant women. The review highlights that adherence to iron supplementation positively correlates with improved hemoglobin levels, which is essential for maternal and fetal health. It also underscores the importance of health education, counseling, and community support in enhancing compliance rates. Cultural sensitivity and tailored interventions are critical to addressing misconceptions and improving iron tablet intake. Furthermore, the study discusses the role of healthcare providers and community health centers, such as Pontap Palopo Community Health Center, in monitoring and promoting adherence to iron supplementation programs. The findings suggest that improving compliance requires a multifaceted approach combining education, accessibility, and supportive healthcare systems. This review provides valuable insights for public health practitioners and policymakers aiming to design effective strategies to combat anemia in pregnancy by improving iron tablet compliance. Future research should consider more localized qualitative studies to understand specific community dynamics influencing compliance behaviors.

Abstract

The sperm sexing technique is the separation of spermatozoa carrying the X chromosome and the Y chromosome, which allows farmers to choose male births for beef cattle businesses. However, the process of centrifugation and sperm preservation can cause oxidative stress which gives rise to free radicals. Therefore, an antioxidant ingredient is needed in the diluent, including noni fruit extract which contains lots of flavonoids. This research aims to analyze the addition of noni fruit extract in a diluent to improve the quality of Y-chromosome spermatozoa at a storage temperature of 5oC. The results of the study showed the results of analysis of the progressive motility of Y-chromosome spermatozoa, showing a decrease in progressive motility, on D7 and D-9 there was a difference between control vs P1 and P2 (P<.05) respectively 37.63% vs 49.96% vs 48.56%, while on day 11 showed a very real difference between P0 vs P1 vs P2 respectively 24.32% vs 36.77% vs 40.87%. The addition of 3% and 5% noni extract can improve the quality of Y spermatozoa stored at 5oC. This is because noni extract contains amino acids, ascorbic acid, and flavonoids as antioxidants so that it is able to prevent free radicals, scavengers, and damage to the spermatozoa plasma membrane can be prevented. The addition of 5% noni fruit extract in the diluent to improve the quality of Y-chromosome spermatozoa at a storage temperature of 5oC for up to 11 days.
