Abstract

OVARIAN RESPONSE OF ONGOLE CATTLE GRADE AND LIMOUSINE CATTLE BREED ON THE FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONEINDUCTION.Objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) utilization and follicle wave synchronization on ovarian response and transferred embryo. This study was using secondary data of embryo products at “Balai Embrio Ternak Cipelang-Bogor”. Data were taken using types of donor female, day and date conducting super ovulation, semen code, number of corpus luteum, numbers of embryo grades (A,B,C,D), numbers of transferred embryo and numbers of unfertile ovum. This study involved Limousine and Ongle grade cattle cows experiencing in super ovulation process, with body condition scores of 3.0 to 4.0, fed grass and nutritious concentrates. The FSH was used in super ovulation by the institution called Folltropin-Vand PGF2alfa (Lutalyse). Semen was originated from bull used by the embryo transfer institution. Results showed that number of left and right luteum corpus (LC) inducing FSH were not significantly different on both cattle breeds, but number of left LC of FSH induction was significantly higher at Limousine Breed. The quality of embryo successfully transferred using FSH induction was significantly higher compared with degenerative embryo and unfertile in both cattle Breeds. The quality of degenerative embryo and unfertile egg cell was not significantly different in both breeds. Proportions of embryo successfully transferred were 85.4 percents in Ongole Grade 87.4 percents in Limousine Breed. The values of Response rateshowing comparison of female donor number responding to the number of female done of super ovulation were 100 percents. Values of recovery ratein both Breed cows showed also 100 percents. Keywords: Follicle Stimulating Hormoneinduction, ovarian response, Limousine cattle Breed, Ongole cattle Grade.

Abstract

FRESH SEMEN CHARACTERISTICS OF LIMOUSIN AND SIMMENTAL BULLS AT THE ARTIFISIAL INSEMINATION CENTER, LEMBANG. This study was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of fresh semen in Limousin and Simmental bulls at the artificial insemination center in Lembang. Results of this study showed that ejaculation frequency of Simmental bull was significantly higher than that of Limousin with the average of 5.37 and 4.60, respectively. Variables of volume, pH and motility were not significantly different between both bulls with volume ranging of 7.17 – 7.20 ml, pH ranging of 6.65 – 6.66 and motility ranging of 58.08 – 59.29%, respectively. The fresh semen colour of Limousin and Simmental bulls were indicated by dominant color of milk white color. Semen consistency of fresh semen from both bulls was moderate. The ejaculation frequency and pH variables indicated the correlation of -0.32 in Limousine bulls, meaning that the higher the ejaculation frequency, the lower the pH  (acid), but the ejaculation frequency and motility of semen had the correlation of 0,34, indicating the more the semen ejaculation frequency, the higher the motility of spermatozoa. The motility of semen had the negative correlation with pH (-0.49). The higher the pH (base), the motility of spermatozoa tended to decline. Simmental bull showed also that semen ejaculation frequency with volume had correlation of -0.40, indicating that the higher the semen ejaculation frequency yakni, the lower the semen volume. Semen ejaculation frequency had correlation of 0.5 with mortality, indicating that the higher the semen ejaculation frequency, the higher the motility of spermatozoa. Keywords: Semen, ejaculation, volume, color, consistency, pH, motility

Abstract

ESTIMATION BREEDING VALUE AND MPPA (Most Probable Producing Ability) OF RACEHORSES BASED ON NATURE OF RUNNING SPEED. The aim of this study was to obtain the estimated number of breeding values from the racehorses parent in Minahasa for racehorse selection based on the superiority of genetic traits of speed. The descriptive analysis such asaverage, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the speed and performance were done as the first step. Heritability, ripitability and the probability of breeding value (PBV) were calculated after all. The results of this study indicate that the value of heritability and repeatability obtained varies from low to high. The highest estimation of breeding value (PBV) for male (H), the highest MPPA (Most Probable Producing Ability) value in the population (individual B010) and the average MPPA value for the entire population were 0.0869, 0.1845 and 0.0239 respectively. The conclusion of this study puts the racehorse with the name "Swift Jhon" and "Super Princes" as males and individuals who have an average increase in the nature of the highest running speed. Keywords: Racehorse, Speed, EBV, MPPA

Abstract

SEMEN QUALITY OF LIMOUSIN AND SIMMENTAL BULLS MAINTAINED IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF PENS AT THE INSTITUTION OF LEMBANG ARTIFICIAL. The intensive maintenance of bulls included animal house and pens protecting animals against sunlight, cool effect, rain, high speed of win and other predators. Objective of this study was to evaluate effects of single bull in a pen (SB) and double bulls in a pen (DB) on semen quality of Limousin and Simmental bulls at the Institution of Lembang Artificial Insemination in West Java. Primer and secondary data of both bulls reproduction were used in this study and analyzed by t test method. Results showed that average volume of semen in both bulls of Limousin and Simmental under SB (9.54 ± 2.19 mL/ejaculation) was significantly higher of 7.67 percents than those of bulls under DB (8.86 ± 1.79 mL/ejaculation). The average of percentage of spermatozoa motility in both bulls of Limousin and Simmental under DB (71.00 ± 2.67) was not significantly differ with those of bulls under SB (70.10 ± 2.37). The average of spermatozoa mass movement in both bulls of Limousin and Simmental under SB (1.84 ± 0.37) was significantly more aggressive of 5.43 percents than those of bulls under DB (1.94 ± 0.24). Finally, the average of pH of semen in both bulls of Limousin and Simmental under SB (6.66 ± 0.11) was not significantly differ with those of bulls under DB (6.64 ± 0.10). Correlation between reproduction variables of both Limousinand Simmental bulls in SB and DB was not correlated between one and another variables indicated by correlation values ranging from -0.29 to 0.18. Based of the result of study can be concluded that semen quality of Limousin and Simental in single pen was better than that in double pens. The correlations among reproductive veriables of Limousin and Simmental in both sigle and double pens had no correlation between one and another variable. Keyword: Type of Pen, Semen Quality, Simmental Bull, Limousin Bull.

Abstract

THE DIVERSITY OF QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS IN   NATIVE    CHICKEN  AROUND MINAHASA.  This study aims to determine the diversity of qualitative characteristics in native chicken around Minahasa Regency. A total of 292 adult chickens were used as samples taken randomly and analyzed using descriptive methods. The results showed that the phenotype frequency, color genotype and feather pattern were 0.000515. Trait frequencies of comb shape was 0.000458, cupping color was 0.9957, foot skin color was 0.9949, and spur shape was 0.000193. The degree of heterosigosity of qualitative characteristics of Kampung chickens in Minahasa on average was in the medium category (0.20) to high (0.50). The degree of heterosigosity of the phenotypic traits of native chicken in Minahasa indicated the relative low degree of inbreeding mating. Distribution of phenotypic inheritance of feather color, comb shape and shape of male foot spurs based on samples of native chicken populations were not in genetic equilibrium. The qualitative traits of native chickens in the Minahasa Regency showed a fairly high level of diversity. Key words: native chicken, qualitative characteristics.

Abstract

EGG LAYING BEHAVIOR OF MALEO BIRD (Macrocephalon maleo) AT MUARA PUSIAN NATURAL CONSER-VATION IN BOGANI NANI WARTA-BONE NATIONAL PARK, EAST DUMO-GA DISTRICT OF BOLAANG MONGON-DOW REGENCY Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park was conservation living area of the all flora and fauna species including maleo bird (Macrocephalon maleo) as the endemic bird in Sulawesi Island. Objective of this research was to study behavioral laying egg of maleo bird, temperature and hole deep of laying egg, total visitation of maleo bird at laying egg hole places and predator threat around laying egg hole places. Research was conducted by direct observation at the maleo habitat of laying egg holes place. Data obtained were analyzed descriptively to describe the facts and phenomena occurring at the bird habitat. Results showed that bird activities before laying egg at holes included digging the laying egg hole, laying egg in the hole, heaping up egg hole, digging false egg holes. Bird activities after laying egg at holes included pause and look for feed around holes and then they flied to the forest area. The average times of laying egg were 1 to 3 hours, started from looking for area of hole, digging holes, playing around egg holes area to the end of laying egg in the hole. The averages of egg holes deep were 41.8 ± 14.28 cm and egg holes temperatures were 270 C - 340 C. Maleo birds were laying their eggs more around Tower I compared with around Tower II. Around Tower I had dense vegetation of trees used as shelter, protection place from predators, clean area from scrubs for easy digging holes of laying egg. Around Tower II, there were growing scrubs (Saccharum spontaneum) and coarse grass (Imperata cylindrical) causing unsecure and difficult digging holes by maleo birds in laying their eggs. The total visitations of maleo birds around egg holes areas were visibly observed of 28 pairs and 1 male without spouse and 9 pairs found by auditory observation. Therefore, there were 37 pairs consisted of 37 females and 38 males of maleo birds observed. The total eggs obtained during observation were 42 eggs, consisted of 2 damaged eggs and 40 hatching eggs using the artificial hatchery at study location. Key words: Behavioral laying egg, maleo bird (Macrocephalon maleo).
