Abstract

Vaccination is an effort to prevent Covid-19. In addition, the 5M health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility are not enough to avoid Covid-19. Education is needed as an effort to increase public knowledge about the use of medicinal plants during a pandemic. The method that used in this study includes a preparation, implementation, and reports. Pretest and posttest values were analyzed by univariate and bivariate. The results showed that there was a change in the level of knowledge, such as a decrease in low-knowledge category from 11.6% to 2.3%, the middle-knowledge category from 48.8% to 11.6% and an increase in good-knowledge category from 39.5% to 86.0 %. Wilcoxon test used in this study with 95% confidence level showed that there was a significant difference between before and after education (p value = 0.000). The education is able to increase public knowledge, especially Muhammadiyah society about the use of medicinal plants to increase immunity during a pandemic.

Abstract

Iklim tropis di Indonesia menjadikan penyakit kulit masih terus berkembang. Faktor kebersihan diri dan lingkungan turut serta dalam meningkatkan resiko terjadinya penyakit kulit. Beberapa golongan obat yang digunakan untuk mengobati penyakit kulit terdiri dari obat topikal dan sistemik. Penggunaan obat gatal sebagai terapi penyakit kulit akibat infeksi atau alergi secara alami sudah lama digunakan dan sampai sekarang masih banyak dimanfaatkan masyarakat, sehingga diperlukan suatu dokumentasi untuk mengetahui keragaman tanaman obat di Indonesia untuk penyakit kulit sebagai alternatif pembuatan obat dari bahan alam. Metode yang digunakan dalam penyusunan artikel ini adalah dengan penelusuran artikel melalui google scholar dan EBSCO dari tahun 2017-2022. Jumlah artikel yang dipilih berdasarkan hasil penelusuran berjumlah 28 artikel. Hasil studi menunjukkan terdapat 51 spesies tanaman yang tersebar di 14 provinsi. Kesimpulan dari studi ini adalah tanaman obat di Indonesia yang berpotensi mengobati penyakit kulit sangat beragam jenis dan cara pemanfaatanya.

Abstract

Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata) contains bioactive compounds that are spread almost throughout the organs. One of the important contents of pumpkin is seed oil which has antioxidant activity. Antioxidants play a role in counteracting free radicals so that it is widely used to improve health quality. Fruit storage can affect seed quality and antioxidant activity in it. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the chemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of pumpkin seed oil with different fruit storage times. The method for obtaining pumpkin seed oil from fruit storage for 10, 20, and 30 Days After Anthesis (DAH) was carried out using the soxhlet extraction method. The extracted oil was thickened using a rotary evaporator. Furthermore, its chemical characteristics were tested including yield, acid number, peroxide number, saponification number, water content. Pumpkin seed oil was measured for its antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Absorbance was measured at a wavelength of 526 nm using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the DMRT test with a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that there were significant differences in the variation of fruit storage time including oil yield, acid number, saponification number, and antioxidant activity, while there was no difference in water content. Fruit storage time of 30 DAH gave the most optimal results in all parameters tested. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is the characteristics and antioxidant activity of pumpkin seed oil at a storage time of 30 DAH produced better oil quality compared to storage times of 10 and 20 DAH.

Abstract

Smoking behavior during adolescence constitutes a serious public health concern in Indonesia, given its detrimental effects on physical, psychological, and social well-being. School-based health education represents a crucial preventive strategy for reducing adolescent smoking prevalence. This community service initiative aimed to deliver smoking hazard education to students at SMP Muhammadiyah Adiwerna in Tegal Regency to enhance their knowledge, attitudes, and awareness toward healthy lifestyle practices. The intervention employed multiple approaches, including interactive health promotion sessions, educational video presentations, and pre-test/post-test assessments to evaluate improvements in student comprehension. The activity was implemented using a participatory approach, engaging 127 students from grades VII and VIII. Findings revealed a significant improvement in students' knowledge regarding smoking hazards, demonstrated by an increase in mean scores from 62 in the pre-test to 87 in the post-test. Furthermore, students exhibited considerable enthusiasm throughout the program and successfully identified the adverse effects of smoking on individual health and environmental well-being. This intervention is anticipated to empower students as change agents within their school and family contexts, enabling them to resist smoking solicitations and disseminate smoking-related health information to their peer groups. Moreover, this educational initiative is expected to serve as a foundational step toward achieving a healthy school environment and cultivating a smoke-free youth generation.

Abstract

Kosmetik merupakan sediaan yang digunakan untuk memperindah, melindungi, dan merawat tubuh. Salah satu kosmetik yang luas digunakan adalah lipstik yang berfungsi melindungi bibir dan memperindah bentuk bibir. Namun, beberapa produk lipstik mengandung logam berat seperti Timbal (Pb) dan Kadmium (Cd) yang berbahaya bagi tubuh jika terakumulasi dalam jangka waktu panjang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan logam berat Timbal (Pb) dan Kadmium (Cd) pada produk kosmetik berupa lipstik berwarna merah yang beredar di Kota Tegal. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) dengan tahapan destruksi basah sebagai proses preparasi sampel. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga sampel lipstik yang dianalisis secara kuantitatif untuk menentukan kadar logam berat yang terkandung di dalamnya. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kadar logam Timbal (Pb) rata-rata -0,0156 ppm berada di bawah batas deteksi alat, sedangkan kadar Kadmium (Cd) rata-rata 0,1235 ppm yang terdeteksi masih jauh di bawah ambang batas yang ditetapkan oleh BPOM RI Nomor 17 Tahun 2014, yaitu 20 mg/kg untuk Pb dan 5 mg/kg untuk Cd. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa lipstik yang dianalisis aman untuk digunakan, karena kandungan logam beratnya masih dalam batas wajar.
