Abstract

The needs for agricultural products are increasing along with population growth, but the area of agricultural land is decreasing and so as plant pest organisms. Therefore, one of the intensifications of agricultural policies is to use pesticides. The aim of this study was to determine the efficiency of degradation of pesticide-contaminated soil with active ingredients profenofos in the bioremediation process with the addition of Pseudomonas sp. This study used a bioremediation reactor with a size of 20 cm x 35 cm, pesticides with active ingredients profenofos and pesticide residue testing carried out using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) instrumentation. The research variables include variations in the concentration of the bacterium Pseudomonas sp. that is 2 ml/kg, 3 ml/kg and the control reactor with bioremediation time for 21 days. The results showed that the bioremediation method using Pseudomonas sp. able to set aside pesticide residues made from with active ingredients profenofos in soil media. Pollution removal efficiency for bacterial variation of 2 ml/kg was obtained of 93.67%, the bacterial variation of 3 ml/kg of 96.33% and control reactor was 76.33% with a residence time of 21 days.Keywords: Bioremediation, Profenofos, Pesticide Residue, Pseudomonas sp.

Abstract

Energy needs at this time still depend on fossil fuels that can not be renewed, therefore we need alternative fuels that are renewable, environmentally friendly and economical, one of which is briquettes. Variations in the variables used were composition of waste oil palm empty fruit bunches and oil palm sludge, namely 90%: 10%, 80%: 20%, 70%: 30%, and 60%: 40%. The results showed that the best heating value of briquettes and compressive strength of briquettes were found in the composition of raw materials 90%: 10% with the heating value of 5098.82 cal / gr.Keywords: briquettes, oil palm empty fruit bunches, palm oil WWTP sludge.

Abstract

Styrofoam is a persistent plastic that is difficult to decompose naturally in the environment, is microplastic, which causes its accumulation as a major contaminant in soils, rivers and oceans. One method to process styrofoam waste is biodegradation. Biodegradation of styrofoam waste using mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larvae) was carried out by giving styrofoam as the main feed. The mealworm has been studied for their potential as decomposer of styrofoam due to best quality nutrient content. This study aims to increase the rate of biodegradation of styrofoam. Styrofoam waste used in this research is the type of Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) with variation of composition nutrients (tofu waste, bran, and yeast). The result showed that addition of bran nutrients could increase biodegradation rate by 27,26 mg/day with the highest percentage of 42,41% compared to other treatments for 28 days of observation.Keywords: styrofoam waste, biodegradation, mealworm, biodegradation rate, nutrition.

Abstract

Heavy metal Cu(II) which contained in electroplating wastewater is a highly toxic substance and very dangerous for living creatures. The toxicity that these metals carry can lead to chronic, acute, and cancer-causing poisoning. Biosorption with fungi is one of the abatement methods to reduce the metal contaminant in environment. The present study aimed at determining the maximum biosorption capacity and the removal percentage of Cu(II) biosorption by Coprinus comatus. Empty Fruit Bunches(EFB) is used as growing medium of Coprinus comatus then used to adsorb a solution containing heavy metal Cu(II) with concentration 1,62 ppm. The adsorbed metal ion was calculated from metal ion concentration after activated by H2SO4 with variation concentration based on the analysis with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. The result showed that Cu(II) not effectively adsorbed by Coprinus comatus activated by H2SO4 as the biosorbent. Keywords : Biosorption, Coprinus comatus, Activated, H2SO4, Electroplating

Abstract

Spent mushroom substrate, a renewable bio-waste from mushroom-growing industry, was used as a biosorbent to remove ion Fe metal in peat water. The purpose of this study was to determine metal removal efficiency of Fe in the peat water. Fixed variables used in this study is the stirring speed of 120 rpm and a contact time of 60 minutes. For independent variables used consisted of adsorbent mass variation of 0,1; 0,3; 0,5; 0,7; 0,9 g and a particle size variation 60, 100 and 140 mesh. The results showed highest removal efficiency of Fe metal concentration on peat water treatment by biosorption onto Coprinus comatus spent mushroom substrate at mass of biosorbent 0,9 g with a particle size of 140 mesh, with removal efficiency for fe metal concentration and color respectively amounted to 88,31%. Abstract

Tofu is a domestic industry developed rapidly in indonesia. Unfortunately the treatment of wastewater has not been done before the wastewater is thrown away to receiving water bodies. Therefore it is one of the causes of water pollution that effect the death of aquatic biota. Thus it is needed to do acute toxicity test. The goal of the research are to know the value of LC50 and to analyze the relationship of industrial wastewater of tofu UD. Tahu Jaya towards the experimental animal. Acute toxicity test is done by renewal test method in 96 hours using Daphnia Magna. The characteristic consentration of wastewater of tofu UD. Tahu Jaya is COD 4750 mg/l, TSS 2100 mg/l, ammonia 5,29 mg/l, pH 3 and temperature 33°C. Based on the result of analysis characteristics of tofu wastewater, it is known that the parameters of COD, TSS, ammonia, pass the quality standart of the rules of Enviromental Ministry No. 15 Year 2008 about the Quality Standart of Waste Water for Industry and Soybean Processing Activity. The value of LC50 is 6,509% and TUa (Toxicity Unit Area) of tofu industrial wastewater is 15,36 showed that the wastewater of tofu is very cause acute toxicity.Keywords: daphnia magna, LC50-96 hours, renewal test, tofu wastewater

Abstract

Tofu wastewater has COD and BOD concentration of 3,305 and 1,250 mg/L respectively and the volume of waste by 14-20 L/kg of soybeans were process. The low of COD content causes the anaerobic digestion process not optimal to produce methane gas, that needs to be added the other of organic matter such as cow dung. However, lignin and organic polymer in a cow dung causes the mixed of tofu wastewater and cow dung difficult to biodegradable. To improve the biodegradability could be performed by pre-treatment with ozonation process. The aims of this study to determined the effect of pH range (5.22; 8 and 10) and the time of ozonation contact (20; 40 and 60 minutes) to the COD value. The results showed an increase in the percentage of removal COD. The optimum condition was shown at pH 10 time of ozonation was 60 minutes where the percentage of removal COD was 54,8%. The conclusion of this study the higher pH and the longer time of ozonation showed the better of removal the COD.Kata Kunci : Advanced Oxidation Procces, ozonation, biodegradability, BOD5/COD ratio.

Abstract

One of energy source alternative that can be used as a substitute for fossil fuel-based energy, is bioethanol. Bioethanol is biochemistry fluid from fermentation process of sugars from carbohydrate sources by using microorganisms. The raw material of bioethanol production is very diverse, like pineapple peel. Pineapple peel can be used as raw material for bioethanol production because contain of fiber, carbohydrates and sugar. This study aims to make bioethanol from pineapple peel with Sacharificatian Simultaneous and Fermentation (SSF) process with cellulase enzyme variation are 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 10% v / v substrate and fermentation time are 2, 3, and 4 days. From the research is obtained the highest bioethanol concentration is 8% on the addition of cellulase enzymes 10% v / v substrate with 3 days fermentation time. Abstract

Energy consumption is increasing steadily with the population growth and industrial development. Therefore, a substitute should be found. Bioethanol has been pointed out as asolution for variety complex problems related to energy and environmental issues. Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench] is considered to be a viable and renewable feedstock forbioethanol production because it high starch contains. The use of tween 80 as a growth supplement can help alter the substrate structure and make it more accessible to enzim, thuscan improve bioethanol yields. Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation was used to produce bioethanol from sorghum starch using commercial alpha amylase andglucoamylase. The fermentation were done in a 2 L bioreactor in batch mode (T = 20-300C; pH = 4,5). The variabel studied were fermentation time (24, 48, 72 and 96 h) and tween 80(7,5 and 10 ml/l). Bioethanol concentration were analyzed using Gas Ghromatography. The optimum amount of tween 80 to be added was 10 ml/l, which result the highest bioethanolyield 8,74 g/l in 96 h of fermentation.Keywords : bioethanol, tween 80, sorghum starch, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation.

Abstract

Briquettes are alternative solid fuels that require development in the manufacturing process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the ratio of sludge to palm fronds and particle size in the manufacture of sludge briquettes. This research was carried out by the process of carbonization of sewage sludge at 550OC for 60 minutes and the utilization of palm oil as an adhesive. The variables used are 40, 60 and 80 mesh particle size and 90:10%, 80:20%, 70:30%, 60:40% and 50:50% of silt sludge waste ratio. Testing of briquette characteristics of oil palm sludge include moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, carbon content, calorific value, compressive strength and duration of flame. The results showed the best briquette quality obtained on briquettes with 60 mesh particle size with 50:50% ratio with the highest calorific value of 3752,74 cal/gr. The best flame briquette reaches 4.41 minutes in briquettes with a particle size of 80 mesh and a ratio of 50:50% while the best compressive strength reaches 0.0102 kg/cm2 in 80 mesh particle size. The difference in the size of the briquette particles showed an increasing tendency in briquette flame duration. Keywords: briquette, sludge, particle size, flame duration, compressive strength
