Abstract

Abstract

Violence perpetrated by fathers from childhood to early adulthood plays a major role in shaping an individual’s emotion regulation abilities. Emotion regulation is a crucial aspect of adaptive emotional functioning. This study aimed to explore in depth the processes and strategies of emotion regulation in an early adult woman who has experienced paternal violence.  A qualitative approach with a narrative research design was employed. Data were collected from one subject and two informants and analyzed using qualitative analysis, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that experiences of family violence contribute to the development of maladaptive emotion regulation patterns, predominantly characterized by antecedent-focused strategies such as avoidance, distraction, and rumination, while also involving response-focused strategies, including expressive suppression and emotion expression. Trauma can disrupt emotion regulation flexibility, prompting individuals to adopt defensive patterns and reducing their capacity to cope with emotional stress adaptively. These findings highlight the complexity of emotion regulation shaped by traumatic experiences and provide a contextual understanding among early adult women who have experienced paternal violence. Abstract

In the digital era, Online Fear of Missing Out (ON-FoMO) has become increasingly common, especially among Generation Z. ON-FoMO refers to anxiety arising from the fear of missing trends, information, or online social activities, which can reduce productivity and trigger negative emotions such as inferiority and life dissatisfaction. This study aims to describe ON-FoMO levels and psychological well-being among university students. Using a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional design, data were collected through snowball sampling from 305 students. The measurement tools used in this study were the ON-FoMO Scale and the SRQ-20 Scale The ON-FoMO Scale assessed four dimensions—anxiety, need to belong, addiction, and need for popularity—while the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) measured psychological symptoms across energy, cognition, physiology, and anxiety dimensions. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed that most respondents had moderate to high ON-FoMO, particularly those aged 20–23, with females making up 74.43% of participants. Mental health conditions were generally mild to moderate, also dominated by the 20–23 age group (47.9%). These findings highlight the need for strategies to strengthen Generation Z’s mental resilience against digital social pressures, emphasizing early interventions, psychoeducation, and healthy online engagement to mitigate ON-FoMO’s psychological impact.

Abstract

Suicidal ideation among university students has become an increasing mental health concern, highlighting the need to identify psychological factors that may protect against its development. This study investigated the associations of self-esteem and hope with suicidal ideation among university students using a quantitative correlational design. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rank-order correlation. The findings revealed significant negative relationships between both psychological variables and suicidal ideation. Self-esteem was negatively associated with suicidal ideation (rs = −0.399, p < 0.001), indicating that students with higher self-esteem reported lower levels of suicidal ideation. Similarly, hope showed a significant negative correlation with suicidal ideation (rs = −0.322, p < 0.001). Overall, the findings suggest that self-esteem and hope function as protective psychological resources that may reduce the likelihood of suicidal ideation among university students. These results highlight the importance of strengthening positive psychological resources as part of mental health promotion and suicide prevention efforts in higher education.
