Abstract

Enggano Island is one of the outer islands that belongs to the Province of Bengkulu. Furthermore, there is very limited information about the diversity of bryophyte from Sumatera, especially in lowland forest, Enggano Island. The aim of this research was to provide the initial information related to the diversity of bryophytes in Enggano. The research was conducted in six forests i.e. primary, secondary and degraded forests. The results showed that 32 number of collection from 14 families, 21 genera, and 32 species were identified. Leceuneaceae was common family for liverworts while the mosses family was dominated by Hypnaceae. None of the hornworts were found in this study. Some species identified (Taxyphyllum sp., Vesicularia sp., Riccardia sp., and Thuidium sp.) have the potential benefit and biological activity. Two genera were new records to Sumatra, Gongylanthus, and Symphyogyna. Moreover, Gongylanthus sp. and Symphyogyna sp. have important records related to the habitat. How to CiteNadhifah, A., & Surya, M. I. (2016). Abstract

Research on the diversity of bryophytes in Indonesia has been generally accomplished. However, the publication of potential uses of this tiny plant is very limited. Cibodas Botanical Garden (CBG) as a center for ex-situ plant conservation has potential climate conditions as a location of moss growth. The study aims to collect bryophytes in CBG and to identify their potential uses. Purposive sampling method was used on various substrate (soil, rocks, trees). Some environmental parameters were also recorded, for instance, substrate type, temperature, and humidity. All of bryophytes collections were taken to the laboratory for the identification and saved in herbarium (CHTJ). A literature study was conducted to determine the potential uses of identified moss species. From 153 collection numbers recorded in CBG, there were 42 species which have potential use. In addition, there were 42 species that have the potential to be used as a medicinal plant, ornamental plants, uses in agriculture and environmental services. This study provides the initial information about the potential uses of mosses, liverworts, and hornworts particularly in Indonesia. Furthermore, these prospective utilization encourage the innovative research in Indonesia, particularly on alternative natural resources.

Abstract

Flavoring seasonings are food additives added with the aim of increasing flavor (palatability) and covering up deficiencies in food in terms of taste. The natural glutamate content of mushrooms has the potential to be used as a flavoring ingredient, one of which is oyster mushrooms. The quality of natural flavoring of oyster mushrooms is determined by the formula of the ingredients and the way they are produced. The drying process can affect the water content and color of seasoning. This study aims to determine the water content and natural flavoring of oyster mushrooms based on initial treatment. This study was an experimental study using a Completely Randomized Design with 6 treatment trials (non-blanching, blanching, sodium bisulfite immersion, citric acid immersion, blanching + sodium bisulfite immersion, and blanching + citric acid immersion), and 3 test replications. The moisture content test was performed by the AOAC oven method and color analysis was measured using Konica Minolta CR-10 Color Reader. Observational data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that the initial treatment had a tendency to increase water content. Moisture content for all samples based on pretreatment meets the quality criteria for dry products that is 10%. The results of the color analysis showed an increase in the value of each treatment but did not show any real difference in color. The treatment using sodium bisulfite immersion and blanching showed an increase in brightness intensity and a good chroma value category compared to the control value. Based on OHue value in each treatment has the same color scheme, namely yellow – red. Keywords: Oyster mushroom, Water Content, Color, Pre treatment, blanching

Abstract

Bryophytes are a major component of the ecosystem in Indonesia. Due to their sensitiveness, the abundance and diversity of bryophytes in an ecosystem are influenced by environmental conditions. This study aimed to determine the diversity of bryophytes based on ecological parameters in the village of Blumah Kecaman Plantungan, Kendal Regency which is directly adjacent to the Mount Prau protected forest, Central Java. The data collection method used was the exploratory method and the descriptive exploratory method with survey techniques. Observation was carried out by exploring an area of  3 kilometers, every 1 km distance. An observation station was made consisting of station 1 Jiwan hamlet, station 2 Garung, and station 3 at Cengkek and Gondan springs. The specimens were identified based on taxonomic literature. Each species was collected as a specimen for further identification in the laboratory. Abiotic environment parameters such as temperature, humidity, altitude, light intensity, pH and slope were observed. The results showed that Blumah village still has high plant diversity, especially bryophytes. The more humid, the higher the place, the lower the temperature and light intensity, the more species diversity. Based on the identification results, 21 species were recorded, which includes 15 species of mosses, 4 species of liverworts, and 2 species of hornworts. The index value of bryophyte species diversity was in the medium category, and the index value of species richness and species dominance were at low levels.
