Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease characterized by abnormalities in carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolisms. This research was aimed at the gel’s pharmacological activity, the extract’s potential in treating diabetic wounds in male rats of Melastoma malabathricum L leaves (ML) and Psidium guajava L leaves (PL), as well as microbiological activity. Viscous extracts of ML and PL were prepared in gel dosage form with concentrations of 4% and 6%. Clindamycin was used as a positive control. This study was conducted using an experimental laboratory method, and the study population included white male rats. The pharmacological activity was tested in the form of a gel dosage formula, and the rats were made diabetic using alloxan. The potential of the extract was observed in healing diabetic wounds in male rats. ML and PL leaf extract gels affect wound healing in diabetic patients. This can be seen from the change in diameter. Wound swab examination revealed the presence of bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. Secondary metabolites of flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and saponins help stimulate the regeneration of epithelial cells and tissues. The results for wound healing of 4% and 6% gel formulations were derived from maturation data on day 10.

Abstract

Stunting is the state of height of a person, not by age. Numerous risk factors, such as complementary feeding, viral illnesses, and exclusive breastfeeding, contribute to the high prevalence of stunting. Breast milk consists of fats, carbohydrates, calories, proteins, and vitamins that can support the development and growth of a healthy child. Complementary feeding must be adequate, nutritious, and appropriate in the type, time, frequency, portion, and menu variations in addition to breast milk. These variations that are not quite right will cause growth failure and infectious diseases. This study aimed to ascertain the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, infectious diseases, and the incidence of stunting in children between the ages of 7 and 24 months at the Sawah Lebar Health Center in Bengkulu City in 2023. This study used a cross-sectional method. The population in this study were all children aged 7-24 months in Sawah Lebar Public Health Center, while the sample for this study was 52 people taken by random sampling. The study finds a relationship among exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, infectious diseases, and the prevalence of stunting in children aged 7 to 24 months at the Sawah Lebar Public Health Center in Bengkulu City with a p-value (<0,05). This study is recommended to continue by adding any variable such as a variety menu, texture, and appropriate time giving complementary feeding.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of guava and melastoma malabathricum linn leaves mixed gel activity as anti-microbial and wound healing in experimental rats (Sprague dawley). The thick extracts of melastoma malabathricum linn and guava leaves were made in a gel dosage form with a concentration of 4% and 6% and clindamycin as a positive control. This study used experimental laboratory methods, and the population in this study were white male rats and was carried out in the Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Laboratory, National Institute of Science and Technology. The pharmacological activity was tested in the form of a gel dosage formula, and the rats were made diabetic through an inducing agent, namely alloxan, then the potential of the extract was seen in repairing diabetic wounds in male rats. Melastoma malabathricum Linn and guava Leaves extract gels have an effect in healing diabetic-induced rat wounds using alloxan. This can be seen from the change in the diameter of wound healing. Secondary metabolites of both plant materials are thought to provide anti-microbial activity and stimulate wound healing which helps epithelial cells and tissues so that they regenerate. The chemical content in the extracts of the test preparation has different mechanisms in helping the healing process.
