Abstract

This study aimed to produce valid Macromedia flash-based mathematics learning media on the Pythagorean theorem material. The type of research used was research development (R&D), which consists of three development stages: defining, designing, and development. The instrument used in this study was a validation questionnaire. The validation questionnaire sheet includes didactic aspects, content, language, and display. The results of the research on the development of Macromedia flash-based mathematics learning media based on the validity test of Macromedia flash-based mathematics learning media that have been carried out on three validators and various revisions and improvements, the average score of the results of the validity of Macromedia flash-based mathematics learning media was 3.37 with a very valid category. So the Macromedia flash-based mathematics learning media was very valid.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the level of proportional reasoning among middle school students in their ability to solve mathematical problems involving proportions. Proportional reasoning is essential for understanding and mastering various mathematical concepts, serving as a fundamental skill for higher-level mathematics. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving 28 eighth-grade students from a school in Bandung, Indonesia. The participants were assessed using a set of proportion-related problems, including numerical comparison, non-proportional (additive), direct proportion, and inverse proportion tasks. The analysis focused on categorizing the students' problem-solving strategies into distinct levels of proportional reasoning, ranging from non-proportional to formal proportional reasoning. Additionally, three students representing high, moderate, and low mathematical performance were selected for in-depth interviews to explore their reasoning processes when addressing proportion problems. Data analysis included administering tests, reviewing students' problem-solving strategies, conducting in-depth interviews, and evaluating their proportional reasoning abilities. The findings revealed that students with high and moderate mathematical performance exhibited proportional reasoning levels ranging from 0 to 3, whereas low-performing students displayed levels ranging from 0 to 2. Moreover, students generally faced difficulties distinguishing between proportional and non-proportional problems. Even when correct answers were provided, many lacked a deep understanding of direct and inverse proportion concepts. The study also discusses several implications for enhancing students' proportional reasoning skills.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: modul, logika matematika, problem based learning The purpose of this study was to develop a mathematical logic module based on problem-based learning that is practical and effective. The research method used is the development method (R & D). The development model used is a 4-D model consisting of 4 Stage, namely define, design, develop phase, and disseminate stage. In this study, only three phase was carried out, namely define, design and develop. Research subjects were 21 people student of Mathematics Education Study Program at the University of Riau Kepulauan. The instrument used in the form of student response questionnaires to obtain practical data modules and tests description to obtain module effectiveness data. Questionnaire result data is calculated on average per aspect and the average total score is calculated and compared to the predetermined criteria. Whereas data Learning outcomes are calculated by the percentage of students who scored more than 68. Results of data analysis student response questionnaires obtained an average total score for all aspects, namely 3.40 included the good category. While the analysis of the data on the learning outcomes test was received at 71.42% of students, get a score of more than 68 and the average learning outcome test is 76.9. Based on the analysis it was concluded that the modules were developed practically were used in mathematical logic lectures and effective in supporting student competenceKeywords: module, mathematical logic, problem based learning

Abstract

Improving students' critical thinking skills is the goal of 21st-century learning. Therefore, this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aims to find the techniques for improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in mathematics education. Data collection was obtained from scopus database. 24 publications published between the years 2018 to 2022 were retrieved for further analysis. Various tools were employed, they are; Microsoft excel and VostViewer. The result of the analysis showed that the techniques used to improve critical thinking skills include teaching methods, teaching materials, robotic coding activities, teacher attitudes, and the Olympics. The teaching method mostly used to improve critical thinking in mathematics education which is popularly used is Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) approach. This literature review is intended to help educators better understand learning tools to enhance students' critical thinking skills. This can make the mathematics learning process more creative and meaningful.
