Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur efektivitas pendekatan kontekstual dalam pengajaran matematika teknik di tingkat perguruan tinggi secara kuantitatif. Dengan meneliti prestasi akademik dalam memahami matakuliah matematika teknik dengan mengeksplorasi dampak metode pengajaran kontekstual terhadap hasil pembelajaran. Riset ini merupakan ekprerimen kuantitatif dengan desaian kuasi eksperimen untuk mengumpulkan data dari berbagai departemen/jurusan teknik. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kinerja dan keterlibatan siswa ketika pendekatan kontekstual diterapkan, dengan tingkat efektivitas melebihi 50%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa menggabungkan aplikasi dan skenario dunia nyata dalam pengajaran sangat berpengaruh kepada pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap konsep-konsep matematika. Tingkat efektivitas yang substansial ini menyoroti potensi pendekatan kontekstual untuk membuat pembelajaran lebih relevan, menarik, dan mudah diakses oleh mahasiswa. Dengan metode ini dapat menumbuhkan pemahaman dan apresiasi yang lebih dalam terhadap matematika. Temuan ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya strategi pengajaran inovatif dalam pendidikan tinggi dan menyarankan agar para pendidik mempertimbangkan untuk mengadopsi pendekatan kontekstual guna mempersiapkan siswa menghadapi tantangan dunia nyata dengan lebih baik.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of vocational students towards foreign teachers (native speakers) and Indonesian nationals (non-native speakers) in teaching English. The research method used interviews with 10 students. The results of the study show that the majority of students have a positive perception of native-speaker teachers because of their pronunciation skills, classroom authenticity, cultural understanding, and motivation and confidence in speaking English. Meanwhile, students also positively rated non-native speaker teachers because they better understood the difficulties of learning English, made students comfortable asking questions and were able to explain the material well. This finding is expected to be an input in optimizing English learning in vocational colleges.

Abstract

This research was done to see students’ TOEFL score especially for fifth semester of Politeknik Harapan Bersama Tegal majoring Mechanical Engineering. Descriptive design using quantitative approach was chosen by the researcher. The sample is 45 students of Mechanical Engineering Study Program. The TOEFL test was used as research instrument. Descriptive statistics was used as data analysis technique, mean and percentage. The result of this research showed that student obtained problems in getting a TOEFL score with an average score 424 which was still at the basic proficiency category. The researcher found that the highest problem received by the students is listening section where student obtained correct answers only 23.7%. The students obtained the lowest score is in the short conversation with the percentage 31.27%. Then the structure and written expression, students obtained average score lowest in structure with a percentage 30.6%.

Abstract

In this study, researchers examined how the implementation of the ESCO method combined with video material media in improving the ability to write English procedure text. This study belongs to Class Action Research. The data analysis method used descriptive quantitative method. The respondents in this study were 44 first-year students of the Applied Bachelor of Public Sector Accounting department of Polytechnic Harapan Bersama who were gathered in one class and given the same treatment. The data were collected using a pretest-posttest assessment and a questionnaire. The data obtained in the form of a pre-test and post-test were analysed to see if there was an increase in the student's ability to write procedural texts. The analysis of the pre-test and post-test scores was combined with the students’ questionnaire which contained students’ opinions regarding the implementation of the ESCO method as a learning method. The results of this study indicated that there is an increase in the student's ability to write procedural texts in English as an improvement between their pre-test and post-test scores.

Temuan ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya strategi pengajaran inovatif dalam pendidikan tinggi dan menyarankan agar para pendidik mempertimbangkan untuk mengadopsi pendekatan kontekstual guna mempersiapkan siswa menghadapi tantangan dunia nyata dengan lebih baik.

Abstract

Currently, small businesses in Tegal and the surrounding areas are not proficient in English. Frequently, difficulties in communication hinder the sale of products in foreign markets.The new idea's growth and improvement is being hindered by numerous challenges. The aim of this community service initiative is to support individuals in developing their language skills, particularly in the widely-used English language. Twenty small businesses (MSME) known as UMKM from Brebes, Tegal City/Regency, and Pemalang participated in the event, showcasing products with product export potential (culinary, craft and fashion). The English language training consists of four stages: acquiring new vocabulary, applying the vocabulary, engaging in verbal communication, and composing product descriptions. The participants benefited from the training session by enhancing their vocabulary (100 percent), oral communication abilities (233 percent), and confidence in public speaking without relying on a script. Furthermore, it showed them how to compose product descriptions in English for social media marketing.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat merupakan implementasi Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi. Pada kesempatan ini, Tim Politeknik Harapan Bersama berusaha meningkatkan kemampuan aljabar matematika siswa SMK Astrindo Kota Tegal dengan menggunakan website Mathway. PKM ini memiliki beberapa tujuan, antara lain: 1) Peningkatan Literasi Matematika pada berbagai jenis masalah matematika; 2) Pengembangan Keterampilan teknologi melalui pemberian peluang bagi siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuannya teknologi dan memahami cara menggunakan platform online untuk menyelesaikan masalah matematika; 3) Meningkatkan keterampilan Siswa yang berkaitan dengan kompetensi bidang komputer yang berhubungan dengan matematika dengan menggunakan website Mathway. Kegiatan PKM ini dilaksanakan di ruang kelas di SMK Astrindo Kota Tegal. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan: 1) Partisipasi Siswa yang Baik yaitu siswa SMK Astrindo Kota Tegal berpartisipasi dengan baik, menghasilkan kemampuan penggunaan website Mathway pada materi kelas X; 2) Kombinasi Keterampilan Komputasi dan Matematika yaitu peserta mampu mengkombinasikan kemampuan menggunakan komputasi pada website Mathway untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan matematika; 3) Peningkatan kecakapan Kemampuan Matematika sambil menguasai pemanfaatan penggunaan teknologi Mathway berbasis web sehingga relevan dengan kamajuan teknologi

Abstract

Stereotypes about domestic routines in the kitchen, wells, and mattresses are strongly associated with married women. This has been occurred for long time. Nowadays, technological advancement and developing digital capabilities are essential not only among students and blue-collars, but also housewives. Since most individual own a smartphone or tablet, he or she should be able to use the technology and continue improving their digital literacy. However, among housewives, its use and utilization are still limited to entertainment, socializing, and making friends in social media. This time, Community Service Program (PKM) activities led to the formation of counseling and education about the importance of increasing digital literacy with the purpose of improving digital literacy skills and the use of Android-based English learning apps. This activity involved approximately 50 housewives as parents and their children from PAUD Alam Nur Cendekia. The session began with a description of the importance of continuing to improve literacy skills, which was preceded by an introduction of using Google Forms to write and share ideas or daily experiences through the links provided. In addition, the mothers were shown how to install, explore, and practice using an android-based English learning application called ENGLISH FOR KIDS. As a result, this can facilitate their children in learning English in a more entertaining way. Subjects participated in the session with enthusiasm and passion. This shows that the implementation of Community Service Program (PKM) ran smoothly in accordance with the above aim.

Abstract

In order to increase students' confidence in speaking activities, it is necessary to be equipped with pronunciation. With sufficient pronunciation, the speaking practiced by students becomes acceptable and well understood. One of the learning media that provides pronunciation facilities is the website www.eslfast.com. Students can choose learning materials from basic to advanced levels. The advantage of this website is that there are various choices of text dialogues and monologues. PKM was held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, 10:00-12:00 WIB at SMK Karya Bhakti, Brebes using lecture and practical methods. Students are introduced to and also practices related to the use of eslfast.com website using their respective gadgets. The enthusiasm of students in the PKM activity was high, around 85% of students thought the importance of learning pronunciation using the website. It is hoped that this PKM activity will increase students' motivation to learn pronunciation. At the end of the session students were given an additional demonstration of SEFT Hypnotherapy which was beneficial for physical and spiritual health.

Abstract

PKM yang dilaksanakan pada Senin, 23 Mei 2022 pukul 09.00-11.00 bertempat di SMK Karya Bhakti Brebes bertujuan untuk meningkatkan vocabulary siswa dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran film yang diambil dari Youtube. Subjek berjumlah 23 orang siswa yang berasal dari jurusan Teknik Komputer Jaringan (TKJ). Dalam kegiatan tersebut juga dilengkapi dengan pretest dan posttest, dengan nilai rata-rata pretest untuk picture identification 7 dan post test-nya 8,17, nilai rata-rata pretest untuk word meaning 3,21 dan posttesnya 7,56 serta nilai rata-rata pretest untuk speeling 4,26 dan posttestnya 6,26. Diharapkan dengan adanya kegiatan PKM ini dapat memotivasi siswa untuk meningkatkan vocabulary dengan media film Youtube yang dapat ditonton kapanpun dan dimanapun oleh siswa. Â
