Abstract

A power of attorney is a document that gives authority to another party to carry out legal actions, for and on behalf of the person giving the power of attorney. Power of attorney consists of special power of attorney and general power of attorney. A special power of attorney explains what actions the recipient of the power can take. This research analyzes the situational context in the text of a notarial deed agreement and the differences between the text of a special power of attorney and a general power of attorney. This research uses functional systemic linguistic theory proposed by Halliday (2004), meaning semantics and forensic linguistic theory proposed by Olsson (2008). Qualitative research methods are used to describe a phenomenon in depth and are carried out by collecting data. Qualitative methods use observation of phenomena and research more into the substance of the meaning of the phenomenon. This method is used to analyze the context of the situation contained in the text using the theory put forward by Halliday (2002). Data were analyzed using situational context theory proposed by Halliday (2004). Data were analyzed using situational context theory which analyzes the field, participants and text modes used in the agreement letter between the authorizer and the recipient. This research shows that the text is dominated by a relational process which aims to provide information about agreements and agreements in the text of the notarial deed. The text is dominated by verbs that express relational processes

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of figurative language found in David Campbell’s poem “Night Sowing” and their translation “Menyemai di Malam Hari” and to find out the meanings of the figurative language found in David Campbell’s poem “Night Sowing” and their translation “Menyemai di Malam Hari”. This study used the theory proposed by Larson (1998:121). In collecting data, this study used the library research method, and the data were collected in some steps to obtain appropriate and sufficient data. The steps in getting the data of this writing were done by reading attentively and accurately with the focus on the figurative languages in the poem. The result of study revealed that metonymy, idiom and personification are the types of figurative languages found in the data source. In translating the idiomatic expression, it needs the proper strategy so that the meaning in the source language can still be maintained.

Abstract

This study investigated the speech acts found in the text of Timun Emas. This research applied a deductive-inductive method in getting the data found in the Timun Emas texts. Data analysis aimed to get the information used as a basis for making decisions to solve a problem. The data analysis process in this research is stated as the process of grouping data according to its characteristics, creating a data grouping model and obtaining important information from the data in the text. In data analysis, this research analyzed the data in accordance with the theory used. They are analyzing the text of Timun Emas based on the types of speech acts and analyzed the social context found in the text of Timun Emas. The types of speech acts found in the text of Timus Emas are directive and commissive. It indicated that the giant had a bad intention to take Timun Emas. The findings reveal that the story predominantly contains directive and representative speech acts, reflecting the characters’ intentions to instruct, warn, and convey information. Commissive and expressive acts appear less frequently but play significant roles in expressing promises, gratitude, and emotional states. These results highlight the pragmatic richness of the folktale and its potential as a medium for teaching language functions in educational contexts.
