Abstract

Anxiety is often experienced by patients before anesthesia and can affect physiological conditions, including hemodynamic status. This study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety level at pre-anesthesia visit and hemodynamic status before anesthesia at Sultan Imanuddin Pangkalan Bun Hospital. This study used a quantitative design of correlational analytics with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 105 respondents was selected using purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were measured using The Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS), while hemodynamic status included blood pressure, Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), pulse, respiratory frequency, and oxygen saturation (SpO₂). The analysis used the Spearman's rho test with α = 0.05. Most respondents experienced mild anxiety as many as 49 respondents (46.7%). There was a significant relationship between anxiety levels and blood pressure (r= 0.382; p <0.001), MAP (r= 0.440; p <0.001), and SpO₂ (r= 0.303; p= 0.002). There was no significant relationship with pulse rate (r= 0.139; p= 0.159) and respiratory frequency (r= 0.143; p= 0.147). Anxiety levels were significantly associated with blood pressure, MAP, and SpO₂, but were not significantly associated with pulse rate and respiration frequency prior to anesthesia.
