Abstract

Abstract

Parental support is an important asset in raising toddlers. However, there are very few studies on "caring"-based parental support. The research aims to analyze the relationship between "caring"-based parental support and parenting patterns for toddlers—cross-sectional research design. The population is parents who have children under five in Jelbuk District, Jember Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The sample numbered 331 which were chosen randomly. The input variable is "caring" support which consists of trustworthy, respectful, empathetic, caring, and communicative. The outcome variable is parenting patterns for toddlers. Data were collected using a questionnaire technique, with the instrument being a structured questionnaire form. Data analysis uses logistic regression. The results of the study show that there is a relationship between parental support based on "caring" and parenting patterns for toddlers. Parents who care enough have a 3.46 times higher potential to provide good parenting compared to parents who care less (AOR 3.46; CI 95% 1.160-10.314). Parents who care a lot have 11,368 times higher potential to provide good parenting compared to parents who care less (AOR 11.368; CI 95% 3.411-37.883). Highly communicative parents have a 39.580 times higher potential for providing good parenting compared to less communicative parents (AOR 39.580; CI 95% 4.680-34.717). Caring and communicativeness are caring elements in parental support most related to child parenting. This study recommends a collaborative parenting program to improve parents' ability to build healthy communication and meaningful care for children under five.

Abstract

Introduction: Childbirth preparation classes play a crucial role in equipping pregnant women with the knowledge and skills necessary to face labor with confidence. Low maternal self-efficacy is often associated with increased anxiety, longer labor duration, and negative birth experiences. This study examines how implementing childbirth preparation classes affects women’s self-efficacy and pregnancy outcomes. Research Methodology: This quasi-experimental study used a pre-test and post-test control group design. 60 pregnant women in their third trimester were recruited and randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n=30), who received childbirth preparation classes, or the control group (n=30), who received standard antenatal care. The classes were conducted over four sessions, covering the labor process, pain management, relaxation techniques, and postpartum care. Self-efficacy was measured using the Childbirth Self-Efficacy Inventory (CBSEI), while pregnancy outcomes were assessed through medical records and post-delivery interviews. Result: The results showed a statistically significant increase in self-efficacy scores in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). Additionally, women in the intervention group experienced shorter labor durations, lower cesarean section rates, and higher satisfaction with their birth experience. There were no significant differences in neonatal outcomes between the two groups. Conclusion: Implementing childbirth preparation classes positively influences maternal self-efficacy and improves several pregnancy outcomes. Integrating such programs into routine antenatal care can enhance maternal confidence and promote safer, more positive birth experiences

Abstract

Introduction: The behavior of pregnant women in caring for pregnancy is influenced by the environment, culture, and lifestyle of the community. This study aimed to analyze the behavior of pregnant women and their nutritional status during pregnancy contributes to the incidence of pre-eclampsia  in rural areas. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional approach to 210 pregnant women who visited a community health center in East Java, Indonesia, in the period June 2020-February 2022. Potential risk factors, including maternal behavior in care during pregnancy, and obesity were evaluated as determinants of pre-eclampsia and its subtypes. The assessment instrument uses a structured questionnaire and has been tested for validity and reliability. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine potential risk factors. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to estimate the effects of individual factors. All statistical analyses were performed with SPSS version 22.0 with a p-value < 0.05 considered significant. Results: There were 65 (31%) pregnant women experiencing pre-eclampsia from 210 samples. Maternal behavior during pregnancy could predict the incidence of pre-eclampsia (p = 0.001; 95% CI 0.121-0.583; OR = 0.266) while obesity was able to predict pre-eclampsia (p = 0.00; 95% CI 1.705-5.209; OR = 3.00). the age of pregnant women p = 0.014; 95% CI 1.143-3,355; OR = 1.959), and history of hypertension p = 0.036; 95% CI 1.053 – 4.550; OR = 2.189). Conclusions: The behavior and nutritional status of pregnant women have been proven to influence the incidence of pre-eclampsia.

Abstract

Introduction: Primary health care (PHC) is recognized as the foundation of equitable and sustainable health systems. Nursing interventions are essential in translating PHC principles into effective practice. However, limited synthesized evidence exists on the effectiveness of nursing-led initiatives within PHC policy frameworks. This review aimed to evaluate the impact of nursing interventions on the implementation of PHC policies, with the hypothesis that structured nursing interventions enhance health outcomes, policy adherence, and community engagement. Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for studies published between 2010 and 2025. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental, and observational designs assessing nursing-led interventions in PHC settings. Two reviewers independently performed data extraction and quality appraisal. Due to methodological heterogeneity, a narrative synthesis was employed. Results: A total of studies demonstrated that nursing interventions such as health education, chronic disease management, maternal-child health support, and community empowerment significantly improved service accessibility, patient satisfaction, and adherence to PHC policy objectives. Moreover, community-based nursing initiatives strengthened preventive care delivery and promoted equity in service utilization. Conclusion: The findings confirm that nurses are pivotal in operationalizing PHC policies. Strengthening nursing capacity through training, policy integration, and resource allocation can accelerate progress toward universal health coverage. Further research is needed to establish standardized evaluation frameworks and measure long-term policy impacts of nursing interventions in PHC systems.

Abstract

Abstract: Stunting is a significant public health problem in Jember Regency and has a long-term impact on the quality of human resources. Efforts to accelerate stunting reduction require active community involvement through strengthening the capacity of local organization-based health cadres. This study aims to analyze the application of an applied learning model for early stunting detection to improve the competence of 'Aisyiyah cadres in the community. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design approach. The subjects were Aisyiyah cadres who participated in early stunting detection training. The intervention was an applied learning model that emphasized direct practice, anthropometric measurement simulations, the use of detection tools, and field mentoring. Cadre competency measurements included aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and skills before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using statistical tests to determine differences in pretest and posttest scores. The results showed a significant increase in cadre competency after being given the applied learning model. There was a very significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores in 20 participants (Z = -3.195, p < 0.001, r = 0.89). Improvements were seen in understanding the concept of stunting, the accuracy of anthropometric measurements, and the ability of cadres to educate mothers of toddlers. The applied learning model has proven effective in increasing cadre readiness for early detection of stunting in the community. This learning model can be used as a community-based training strategy to support programs to accelerate stunting reduction. Keywords: Early Detection; Stunting; Cadre Competency; Applied Learning Model.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that contributes to maternal morbidity and mortality, while the knowledge of posyandu cadres and pregnant women regarding preeclampsia prevention remains limited, particularly in the utilization of local nutritious food. The main problem faced by the community partners was the low level of understanding among cadres and pregnant women about preeclampsia and the suboptimal use of edamame as an alternative nutritional source for its prevention. This community service program aimed to empower posyandu cadres through health education and training in processing edamame into an easy-to-consume beverage for pregnant women. The methods applied included socialization, education on preeclampsia and the nutritional benefits of edamame, as well as demonstrations and hands-on training in preparing edamame latte. The activity involved 6 posyandu cadres, 2 midwives, 4 pregnant women, and 17 mothers with toddlers at Posyandu Dahlia 35, Glagahwero Village, Jember Regency. The results showed an increase in knowledge regarding preeclampsia prevention among participants by 95% and an improvement in skills related to edamame processing by 95%. This program had a positive impact on strengthening the role of posyandu cadres as community health educators and promoting the utilization of local food resources as a supportive strategy for preventing preeclampsia at the community level.
