Abstract

As the global economy changes, it's important to examine why people in Southwest Papua switch from cash to the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) system. This region is notoriously behind in infrastructure and human development, so studying this area is crucial to expanding the national economy. This study investigates the variables that influence the switching behavior of users in Southwest Papua toward the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) digital payment. The study investigates the impact of push factors (e.g., perceived trouble, perceived no record for transaction, and difficult to pay cash in large amounts), pull factors (e.g., perceived convenience, promotional benefits, and time saving), and mooring factors (e.g., habit and switching costs) on the transition from cash to digital payments, utilizing the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) framework and transaction cost theory. The research utilizes structural equation modeling to analyze QRIS user's patterns in three regions of Southwest Papua Province: Sorong City, Sorong Regency, and Raja Ampat, by using a stratified random sampling method. The results indicate that the adoption of QRIS is significantly influenced by both push and pull factors, with pull factors playing more prominent role. Switching behavior is also significantly influenced by habit while switching costs exhibit a negative influance but statistically insignificant effect. In an effort to expedite the adoption of digital payments in Southwest Papua, these insights provide policymakers and financial institutions with practical advice. They indicate that strategies that emphasize the convenience and advantages of QRIS over cash are more effective in increasing user adoption.

Abstract

The low level of female participation in the labor market affects the income gap between men and women. However, the informal sector tends to be of interest to women, especially in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector (MSMEs). MSMEs have a very vital role in Indonesia's economic growth. However, the development of MSMEs for women entrepreneurs has obstacles such as low access to business capital and marketing of MSME products. This is influenced by the low level of financial literacy and digital literacy for women in the MSME sector. This paper aims to ascertain the relationship among financial literacy and the performance of women MSMEs specifically with the variable of digital literacy as a moderator. This paper uses primary data through the distribution of questionnaires to women entrepreneurs (MSMEs) in Sorong Regency. The data analysis technique uses Structural Equation Model (SEM) and Partial Least Square (PLS). The results show that financial literacy has positive and significantly affect MSME performance. While, digital literacy has a positive effect on MSMEs performance. In addition, digital literacy has a positive effect in moderating the relationship between financial literacy and MSMEs performance for female entrepreneurs. However, financial literacy is not significantly effect on the performance of MSMEs for women.

Abstract

This study examines the identification and management of Islamic financing risks at PT Pegadaian Syariah Klademak Branch in Sorong, Southwest Papua, categorized as frontier (3T) region of Indonesia. A qualitative case study with thematic analysis approach was used to collect data through in-depth interviews with manager, officers and customers along with the document observation and analysis. According to the findings, financing risk can be divided into four main categories: financing, operational, reputational, and compliance. One of the most significant findings concerns financing risk, particularly in the Arum Haji financing product. This demonstrates that financing evaluation techniques that assess religious perspectives rather than a customer's ability to repay debt are considered irrelevant. The study also found that Pegadaian Syariah Klademak has implemented flexible risk management based on Islamic principles, as assessed by its flexible payment settlement process, humanistic communication, proactive reminders to customers to make timely payments, and active monitoring. Customers also trust the institution because they are honest and transparent, particularly in the collateral valuation process. Problems with repayment are generally caused by unstable customer behavior and income. These findings demonstrate the importance of financial literacy and behavioral interventions in Islamic financing risk mitigation and offer empirical insights from a frontier area context, it also provides recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of risk management while maintaining institutional resilience, financial inclusion, and Sharia compliance.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Baitul Mal Wat Tamwil (BMT) in enhancing access to Islamic microfinance for marginalized communities in Sorong, Southwest Papua Province. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with managers and clients of three BMTs in Sorong and supplemented with user observations. The findings show that BMTs provide inclusive, Sharia-compliant financing to microenterprises, informal workers, and women-led businesses through flexible contracts such as murabahah, ijarah, qardhul hasan, and hiwalah. They adopt proactive service models and leverage community engagement to strengthen trust and outreach. One notable innovation is the establishment of local Puskopsyah (syariah cooperative-based risk-sharing center), inspired by the Islamic value of ta’awun, offering internal protection against defaults. Despite challenges such as low digital literacy and poor infrastructure, BMTs remain sustainable by relying on member-based capital, contextual product design, and strong social networks. This study contributes to the theoretical discourse on social intermediation in Islamic finance and offers practical insights for replicating community-based Islamic microfinance in other underdeveloped regions. The novelty lies in documenting a grassroots takaful initiative and human-centered financing approach that supports BMT resilience in 3T (frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped) areas. These findings align with the strategic goals of the Regional Committee for Sharia Economy and Finance (KDEKS) to foster an inclusive Islamic financial ecosystem in Papua.
