Abstract

This community service is one of the activities in the community partnership program. The targets are people who are not economically productive, namely the students of the Qur'an Education Park/ TPQ Asy Syifa' Darussalam in Ringinarum District, Kendal Regency. The activity carried out in this community partnership program is to provide teaching about character education to children with video media. Animated videos were chosen as learning materials because children are usually more interested and easier to learn and understand something based on audio visuals. The study method on the results of this community service uses a qualitative descriptive study. The results of the activity showed that the children were quite enthusiastic in learning the material from the videos provided. The children looked more interactive in the discussion and question and answer (QA) sessions after the video screening and presentation of the material. They are also motivated to learn and practice moral values in their daily lives, so that the children not only  will be able to learn religious education, but they will also  have a good attitude and behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of news article writing training focused on using English terms in headlines and articles. Participants were students from NU 3 Mualimin High School, Weleri District, Kendal Regency, with varying expertise levels. The training involved intensive workshops on news article structure, appropriate writing styles, and correct use of English terms. Results are expected to provide insights into the impact of training on improving article quality, particularly in English term usage. Evaluation included qualitative analysis of articles before and after training, considering changes in writing style, information clarity, and English term usage skills. The study also discusses challenges faced by authors and presents recommendations for further improvement, aiming to enhance writing skills in the context of globalization and the influence of English in mass media

Abstract

Although  infants  are  not  speaking,  they  are  still  active  users  of  the language because they are physically responding to what has been said. As teachers of second and foreign-language learners, it is useful to consider the listening skills that  are  taught  to  children  learning  English  as  a  first  language.  This  article examines the use of Total Physical Response (TPR) activity as one of the activities for  teaching  listening  to  young  learners.  The  article  begins  with  the  concept  of Total Physical Response (TPR) activity, and continues with various ways of using this activity for teaching listening to young learners. In addition, the effectiveness of this activity is also discussed.

Abstract

This thesis is a study of the cultural shock experienced by the main character in the movie Anna and The King using the theory of general culture shock from Oberg (1960) to support the writing. The purpose of the study is (1) to describe the phases of process of cultural shock experienced by Anna in Anna and the King movie (2) To show the evidence and effects of culture shock experienced by character in Anna and the King Movie. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Data of this research is taken from the film; the scripts and the scenes are used as references to analyze the data and support for this research. In this research, the writer found through culture shock phases stages of culture shock, the evidence and the effect experienced by the main character. The culture shock phases are honeymoon, crisis, recovery, and adjustment. Then the writer also found the effects of culture shock based on the four phases above. There are two effects of culture shock. The positive effects include culture shock gives us new knowledge about culture, culture shock can make friends from all over the world, culture shock builds confidence, get to know a new language. The negative effects include anxiety, confusion, homesickness or anger. The conclusion of the research described the phases the evidence and the effect of culture shock by Oberg’s Theory that can give information to the readers or the next researchers.Key words: Culture, culture shock, film, literature, cultural differences

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to describe the main characters and characterizations and find out the theme in The Fault in Our Star. The writer uses qualitative methods to conduct this research. For analysis, the writer uses a qualitative approach. This research is entitled "Life Struggle in The Fault in Our Stars by John Green". The main reason the writer chose this topic is because the novel tells about the life struggle against the characters' illnesses. The second element analyzed in this case is the theme, how does he survive in a sad situation. The third element in the novel that will be discussed is that the writer will discuss in more detail the life struggles faced by the characters in the novel. Finally, the writer hopes that this paper will be useful for the readers, especially to better understand the intrinsic elements of the novel.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of SITENAR CERYA as an innovative approach to enhancing English language learning at SMP Stella Matutina Salatiga. SITENAR CERYA combines traditional folktales with modern technology to create an interactive learning experience. Employing qualitative implementation methods, including interviews, focus groups, and classroom observations, this activity examines participants' perceptions and experiences with SITENAR CERYA. The evaluation revealed that 85% of students reported increased engagement with English learning, and 90% of teachers noted a significant improvement in students' cultural appreciation and language acquisition. Furthermore, quizzes conducted during the activity showed an average 20% increase in students' language proficiency. These findings highlight the effectiveness of merging cultural heritage with technology in educational settings, offering valuable implications for future language teaching practices.

Abstract

This study explores the discourse surrounding the Agus Salim donation controversy, focusing on how media narratives and legal rhetoric shape public perception. Drawing on two primary sources—articles from Brilio.net and KapanLagi.com—the research employs critical discourse analysis to examine the framing of key events, including allegations of donation mismanagement, legal strategies, and the public's reaction to the case. The findings reveal how media outlets construct competing narratives, emphasizing the roles of public figures, lawyers, and victims in influencing the discourse. By analyzing language use, power dynamics, and ideological positioning, this study highlights the interplay between legal rhetoric and public opinion in cases of social and moral significance. The research contributes to understanding how controversies are framed in digital media and their implications for justice and accountability in contemporary society.

Abstract

This community service program aims to promote learning transformation through the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) based on Indonesian folklore at SMP Stella Matutina, Salatiga. The activity was conducted collaboratively by lecturers from the fields of Human Resource Management and English Education, involving teachers and 89 students from grades VII and VIII. The program integrated local wisdom and digital innovation in the form of interactive learning media to enhance students’ cultural literacy and learning motivation. The implementation method included needs assessment, development of bilingual AR content (Indonesian–English), teacher training, and classroom application. The results indicated increased student engagement, improved teacher skills in educational technology, and enhanced student awareness of cultural preservation. Folklore-based AR media proved to be an effective and sustainable strategy for developing contextual and innovative educational human resources

Abstract

This study is a linguistic analysis that discusses sentence patterns of syntactical fields of song lyrics “Say You Love Me” by Jessie Ware that uses trees diagram. Jessie Ware is an English singer, songwriter, and podcaster. The theories are used to find sentence patterns refer to transformational generative grammar (TGG) theory by Noam Chomsky, the theory of phrase structure from Goodman, and the tree diagram theory by Bornstein. The research method used is the descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this study is Jessie Ware’s song and to collect the data, the writer chooses “Say You Love Me” The result shows that there are 6 syntactical structures that are dominant in 18 lines, and there are 4 syntactical structures composed of different pattern constructions found in 5 lines in Jessie Ware’s song lyrics “Say You Love Me”. Data as follows. There are 6 categories of dominant syntactical structures which used in the three songs of Jessie Ware’s song lyrics namely (1) S ⇨ NP + VP in 5 lines, (2) S ⇨ VP + NP in 4 lines, (3) S ⇨ Conj + NP +VP in 4 lines, (4) S ⇨ Conj +VP + NP in 2 lines, (5) S ⇨ S + Conj + S in 2 lines, and (6) S ⇨ VP + Conj + NP in 1 line. There are 5 other syntactical structure categories also founded in these songs, namely (7) S ⇨ Conj +Adj P + VP in 1 line, (8) S ⇨ Conj + adj P + NP + VP in 1 line, (9) S ⇨ Adj P + NP + PP in 1 line, (10) S ⇨ Adv P + VP + NP in 2 lines. Also, the writer identified the following syntactical structure as having the highest frequency in Jessie Ware's song lyrics “Say You Love Me” from the result above (1) S ⇨ NP + VP in 5 lines, (2) S ⇨ VP + NP in 4 lines. (3) S ⇨ Conj + NP +VP in 4 lines. On the other hand, the less common syntactical structures are (4) S ⇨ Conj +VP + NP in 2 lines, (5) S ⇨ S + Conj + S in 2 lines, and (6) S ⇨ VP + Conj + NP in 1 line. (7) S ⇨ Conj +Adj P +VP in 1 line, (8) S ⇨ Conj + Adj P + NP +VP in 1 lne, (9) S ⇨ Adj P + NP +PP in 1 line, (10) S ⇨ Adv P + VP +NP in 2 lines. From the result above, the writer suggests that this research could be continued by future writer or researcher and that it might be utilized as a resource for learning about syntax in the hopes that it will be interested to the reader.Keywords: Jessie Ware’s song lyrics, syntactical analysis
