Abstract

Scientific work is a form of scientific publication used by teachers to support the Sustainable Professional Program (PKB) that has been launched by the government to actualize the work of teachers as professional staff. Many teachers do not understand how to make a good and correct scientific work, even though scientific work is a mandatory requirement for teachers for the promotion process. The implementation of community service activities aims to provide workshops on scientific writing techniques for teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Lubuk Dalam. The strategy used is through lecture, tutorial, and discussion methods and observation sheets to see the effectiveness of the methods used. The result of this dedication is that the teacher is able to understand the techniques of writing scientific papers well and correctly so that they are suitable for publication

Abstract

Crab shells are the result of the sea containing calcium and carbonate which combine to form calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The calcium carbonate contained in the crab shells is made into PCC (Precipitation Calcium Carbonate) and CO3Ap (Apatite Carbonate). PCC production in this study used the method of carbonation and carbonate apatite with the dissolution-precipitation reaction. Preparation of apatite carbonate by mixing calcium carbonate derived from crab shells with gypsum and immersing it in a solution of diammonium hydrogen phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4) in the form of blocks with a mass composition of G50P50, G50K50 and G50C50. The resulting Apatite Carbonate Type-B can be proven by the results of FT-IR spectrum analysis. For SEM analysis which showed differences in morphology, distribution and particle size of each block of carbonate apatite.

Abstract

Fly ash is produced in the combustion process of coal in a factory. It can be used in the construction industry, particularly in cement and concrete production. Moreover, fly ash has been added as one of the materials in cement production due to composition similarities between fly ash and other raw materials. However, fly ash is not environmentally friendly as it contains inorganic compounds that are harmful to the environment. Therefore, it is important to know its properties and characterization for further research, advantages and disadvantages that follows. This study was focusing on the Ca, Cu, Mg and Si in fly ash as a byproduct of coal combustion. Based on the results, SiO2 and CaO levels consecutively are 21,17% and 0,65% indicated that fly ash can be added as one of the materials used in cement production. Furthermore, the toxic Cu and Mg in fly ash displayed its safety in the environment, in sequence are 0,02855ppm and 0,81825ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

The SISKA program, which combines cattle farming in the same area as oil palm, allows an attachment between crops and livestock in utilizing waste. This program can be aligned with the Cattle Grant Program from the Ministry of Agriculture which has been taking place in Teluk Merbau Village, Dayun District, Siak Regency since 2007.  This community service was carried out from December 1 to 15, 2024. The stages of the service began with discussions with village officials, visits to the plantation area, implementation of socialization followed by discussion and questions and answers, delivery of material and distributing questionnaires to respondents involved in the activity. Plantation farmers who receive cattle grants are expected to be able to process the cow dung waste produced properly so that it can be used as a source of organic fertilizer to be applied to their oil palm land. The use of organic fertilizers as a companion to chemical fertilizers on oil palm land is expected to increase land productivity and reduce environmental pollution.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the physical characteristics of paper made from a mixture of pineapple leaf fiber and thorny pandan leaf fiber as an environmentally friendly alternative raw material. The research method employed was an experimental design with variations in material composition, specifically 8:2, 6:4, 4:6, dan 2:8, which represent the ratio of pineapple leaf fiber to thorny pandan leaf fiber. The papermaking process began with cooking using a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution at concentrations of 8%, 10%, and 13% at a temperature of 100 °C. Subsequently, a bleaching stage was performed using kaolin clay (5%) dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water, which was then mixed evenly using a blender. The resulting pulp was filtered, dried, and formed into paper sheets. The research findings indicate that the highest cellulose content, measuring 99,33%, was obtained at the 2:8 composition, while the lowest content, measuring 60%, was found at the 6:4 composition. The maximum grammage reached 117 g/m² and the maximum thickness was 1,21 mm, obtained from the 2:8 and 8:2 compositions, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest tensile strength value, recorded at 4,200823 kN/m was observed in the 8:2 composition. Based on these results, the paper produced demonstrates the potential to comply with the requirements stipulated in SNI 8218:2015.

Abstract

The development of environmentally friendly packaging materials with the ability to monitor food quality has become an important focus in biomass-based innovations. This study aims to develop bioplastic films based on durian seed starch–chitosan reinforced with cellulose from nipa palm husk and functionalized as smart packaging by incorporating Coleus scutellarioides (miana) extract as a natural indicator. The films were prepared using the solution casting method with varying starch-to-chitosan ratios (2:8, 4:6, 6:4, and 8:2) and cellulose additions (1 g, 3 g, and 5 g). Characterization included tensile strength, elongation at break, Young’s modulus, Water Vapor Permeability (WVP), Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR), and sensitivity to meat quality. The results showed that the highest tensile strength (10.718 MPa) was obtained at the 2:8 ratio with 1 g cellulose, while the highest elongation (3.49%) was observed at the 8:2 ratio. The maximum Young’s modulus (9.40 MPa) was achieved at the 4:6 ratio with 1 g cellulose. The lowest WVP and WVTR values were found at the 6:4 ratio with 3 g cellulose, indicating improved barrier properties. The anthocyanins in miana extract exhibited a clear color response to pH changes, with prolonged storage leading to a shift toward acidic conditions. Overall, the optimal addition of cellulose enhanced mechanical and barrier properties, whereas excessive amounts led to agglomeration and reduced performance. These findings demonstrate the potential of combining durian seed starch, chitosan, cellulose, and miana extract as a biodegradable smart packaging material.
