Abstract

Journals, which represent the most recent findings from a particular scientific expertise, are the most visible scientific output for the scientific community. This specialization is also what makes a journal visible to indexers like Sinta. In this case, the Religious Studies Doctoral Study Program at State Islamic University (UIN) of Sunan Gunung Djati (SGD) of Bandung has the Hanifiya Journal following Sinta's standards. Thus, to support improving the quality of management, preparation activities for the Accredited Journal of Sinta are needed. Journal management has unique characteristics for its scientific field. With the unique characteristics of journal governance, the study program-based scientific community is expected to be able to obtain appropriate and detailed knowledge and services regarding study program science. This program of Journal upgrades four essential elements: articles, reviewing, editorial and publication. The targets aimed at the management of this journal are primarily lecturers and study program students, plus journal managers and the Postgraduate Administration of the University. Resource people with appropriate knowledge of the Sinta journal were invited to participate in this project. Additionally, it is customary for visiting writers from various universities to be invited to contribute to the Hanifiya Journal. As a result, each writer and management receives support and ongoing guidance in order to prepare them for Sinta's national journal certification in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the role of the Bai'at Santri at the Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) of Pangalengan in strengthening religious moderation among students. To achieve these objectives, the research employs a qualitative method with a positivist approach, enabling an in-depth exploration of data within its natural context. Data were collected through triangulation techniques, and the analysis was conducted qualitatively using an inductive approach based on existing facts. The findings indicate that the Bai'at Santri at the pesantren is not an extremist ritual, but rather a pledge by students to adhere to the pesantren's rules and respect the values of Islamic moderation. This activity supports the indicators of religious moderation developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, such as national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation of local culture. Through Bai'at Santri, students are expected to develop moderate attitudes, which include understanding differences, applying just laws, and utilizing science and technology to solve problems. This study concludes that Bai'at Santri is proven to be an effective strategy in strengthening religious moderation at PPI 259. This activity not only fosters tolerance among students but also reinforces the integration of moderation values into daily life at the pesantren. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term impact of Bai'at Santri on the surrounding community and to analyze factors that can enhance the effectiveness of religious moderation programs at other pesantren. Additionally, the perspectives of students and alumni should be considered to gain deeper insights into the influence of Bai'at Santri on their attitudes and behaviors after leaving the pesantren.

Abstract

This study examined the phenomenon of socio-religious interaction between the Hindu and Islamic communities of Wetu Telu in Taman Kemaliq Pura Lingsar, Lombok. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to understand how Taman Kemaliq becomes an acculturation space that facilitates and reflects interfaith harmony. The research uncovered shared histories and religious practices that affirmed communal identity and religious tolerance through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The results showed that Taman Kemaliq is a place for religious rituals and a symbol of harmony and collective identity. Simultaneous religious practices, such as rarak kembang waru ceremonies for Muslims and odalan ceremonies for Hindus, provide a platform for both communities to express their own beliefs and traditions while strengthening social relations between communities. This research found that Taman Kemaliq was a sacred place that united differences through ritual practices and strengthened tolerance and harmonious interaction between religious communities in daily life. The study offered new perspectives on religious and cultural practices as tools of inclusive social development and their potential to inspire interfaith harmony. These findings are important for anthropological, theological, and cultural studies, and they show that Taman Kemaliq can be a real example of multicultural societies managing diversity and creating harmony.

Abstract

The development of radicalism has reached all corners of the world, including the Southeast Asian region. The main target for recruiting radicalism movements is young people, especially students. This paper examines the efforts of campus institutions and students in anticipating the influence of radicalism, especially in the campus environment. The study was conducted on students in Indonesia and Malaysia. The method used in this paper is qualitative, through in-depth interviews, focus group discussion (FGD), and document review. This paper finds that students in Indonesia and Malaysia have become aware of the rise of radicalism in their countries, so various responses have been followed to protect themselves from the dangers of this ideology. Efforts undertaken by the campus include a policy of disseminating an understanding of religious or Islamic moderation wasatiyah. Meanwhile, the efforts made by students to fortify themselves include independent efforts through an independent search for knowledge and learning in class, friendship relations, student discussions, and access to social media. All efforts made by campuses and students are part of instrumental actions using campus institutions as bureaucracy. This paper argues that radicalism as a collective action can be anticipated through collective social action, such as by utilizing available instruments.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of Arab descendants’ identity in Indonesia through the community-based media Suara Al-Irsyad (MSA). Media play a crucial role in shaping and preserving community identity, particularly within diasporic groups facing globalization and social transformation. This research aims to explore how MSA contributes to maintaining Arab descendants’ cultural identity and the strategies employed to remain relevant in the digital era. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with MSA administrators, and document analysis of its publications. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that MSA functions not only as an information platform but also as a medium for cultural preservation. Beyond reporting news and Islamic education, MSA constructs an inclusive narrative that highlights the contributions of Arab descendants to national development. To address digital challenges, MSA has implemented modernization strategies by leveraging social media platforms to engage younger audiences. Despite declining interest in community-based media and increasing competition from mainstream platforms, MSA sustains its relevance by balancing traditional values with technological innovation. This research contributes to media and identity studies by demonstrating the critical role of community media in constructing minority group representations in the public sphere. It enriches the discourse on diaspora identity dynamics in the context of media, particularly in navigating globalization and social change. Moreover, the study provides practical implications for media practitioners, scholars, and policymakers in formulating sustainable strategies for ethnic-based media in the digital era.
