Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the value added generated from processing oil palm sap into palm sugar in Silau Rakyat Village, Sei Rampah Sub-district, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The study is motivated by the potential utilization of oil palm sap as an alternative raw material for palm sugar and the need to increase the value added of plantation commodities through agroindustrial activities. A case study approach was applied to two household-scale agroindustries with different production scales, namely Ms. Yuyun’s agroindustry with a larger production volume and Ms. Ritawati’s agroindustry with a smaller production volume. The analysis employed a quantitative approach using the Hayami value-added analysis method to calculate value added, value added ratios, and profits based on input–output relationships, labor use, and other supporting inputs in the production process. The results show that Ms. Yuyun’s agroindustry generates a value added of IDR 6,598.63 per kilogram with a value added ratio of 53.17% and a profit of IDR 5,758.63 per kilogram, while Ms. Ritawati’s agroindustry generates a value added of IDR 4,838.56 per kilogram with a value added ratio of 47.43% and a profit of IDR 4,138.56 per kilogram. Although both agroindustries are classified as having high value added ratios because they exceed 40%, the agroindustry with a larger production scale generates higher value added and profits. These findings indicate that production scale and efficiency in input utilization play an important role in increasing the economic value of oil palm sap palm sugar, highlighting its potential for development as a rural-based agroindustry. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential utilization of palm kernel shell waste as an alternative fuel to replace coal in steam power plants. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive and comparative approach based on various previous studies. The analysis was conducted by comparing energy characteristics through calorific value, electricity generation capability represented by the energy ratio, and economic aspects reflected in fuel prices and energy costs. The results show that palm kernel shells have an average calorific value of approximately 4,300 kcal/kg, which is relatively close to medium-grade coal with an average value of around 5,000 kcal/kg. In terms of electricity generation capability, the energy ratio of palm kernel shells ranges from 0.935 to 1.160 MW/ton, while coal ranges from 1.158 to 1.724 MW/ton. Although coal demonstrates relatively higher energy efficiency, palm kernel shells exhibit a significant economic advantage due to their lower fuel price, resulting in energy costs of approximately IDR 906,000–925,000 per MW, compared to coal which ranges from IDR 1,434,000–1,456,000 per MW. Therefore, palm kernel shells have strong potential as an alternative fuel that is technically feasible and more economically efficient, particularly in regions with abundant availability of palm oil waste.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze avocado farming income and identify the factors that influence it in Bukit Subdistrict, Bener Meriah Regency. Although Bukit Subdistrict is an avocado production center, harvest price fluctuations often cause farmers' incomes to be unstable. The study employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research sample consists of 30 avocado farmers in Bale Atu and Bale Redelong villages, selected through purposive sampling. Primary data was collected through interviews, while secondary data was obtained from relevant agencies, books, and journals. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the average income of avocado farmers was Rp 2,194,140 per production cycle, with an average total cost of Rp 2,038,094, resulting in an average farmer income of Rp 156,045.32. Simultaneously, the variables of land area, capital, and production significantly influence avocado farmers' income with an Adjusted R² value of 0.634. However, partially, land area does not significantly influence income, capital significantly influences income with a negative coefficient, while production significantly and positively influences income. These findings indicate that improving productivity and capital use efficiency are important strategies for increasing avocado farmers' income in Bukit Subdistrict.

Abstract

Agriculture is a key sector that contributes significantly to the economy of North Aceh and the Province of Aceh as a whole. As one of the agricultural centers in the region, North Aceh has great potential to increase agricultural production and improve farmers' welfare. In this context, agricultural extension workers play a strategic role as a bridge between the latest agricultural technologies and field-level farming practices. This study aims to analyze the influence of age, formal education, work experience, distance to the working area, and the number of assisted villages on the performance of agricultural extension workers. The research location was determined purposively. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis, which was applied to examine the influence of several independent variables on the dependent variable. The study was conducted from June 2025 to November 2025. The results show that the performance of agricultural extension workers at the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) of Dewantara, North Aceh District, is categorized as high. Internal and external factors simultaneously have a significant effect on the performance of agricultural extension workers. However, only formal education and age have a significant effect, while work experience, distance to the working area, and the number of assisted villages do not have a significant partial effect on the performance of agricultural extension workers at the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) Dewantara, North Aceh District. Keywords: Performance of Agricultural Extension Workers and Extension Workers.
