Abstract

Reading literacy activities are currently being held by all levels of education. Literacy activities have a positive effect on students in understanding information. The ability to understand information can be realized through mathematical representation, which is one of the main elements in mathematical understanding. This research can help educators in mapping the mathematical representation ability based on the reading interest of students. The purpose of this research is to identify which indicators can be mastered by students who have reading interests at high, medium, and low levels. This research is qualitative. The research subjects were students of the Mathematics Education Department of Ivet University. The data collection procedures used were scale, test, and interview. The instruments of this study were the reading interest scale, mathematical representation ability test, and interview sheets. The data analysis technique of this study adopted data analysis techniques from Miles and Huberman. The conclusions of this study are (1) students with high and medium reading levels have the ability to represent mathematical representations to model and interpret physical, social, and mathematical phenomena; have the ability of mathematical representations to create and use representations to communicate mathematical ideas or concepts; have the ability of mathematical representations in selecting, applying, and translating mathematical representations to solve problems, (2) students with a low reading level have lacked on the ability of mathematical representations to use representations to model and interpret physical, social, and mathematical phenomena, thus it caused them couldn’t mastering the ability of mathematical representations to create and use representations to communicate mathematical ideas or concepts and the ability of mathematical representations to select, apply, and translate mathematical representations to solve problems. Keywords: mathematical representation ability, reading interest, geometry.

Abstract

Space and form are one of the contents of mathematical literacy in PISA, which is included in the learning of geometry material. Learning abstract geometry, especially spatial geometry, will be an obstacle in education, so spatial abilities are needed. However, before using spatial abilities to imagine space and form, it is necessary to have reading skills manifested in reading interest. Therefore, this research needs to be done to open the minds of readers and provide information that interest in reading affects spatial abilities, so that government policies on reading habituation at the beginning of learning time can be preserved and even improved through other activities. This study aimed to determine how reading interest affects the spatial ability and how much reading interest affects spatial ability. This research is quantitative. The research subjects were the Mathematics Education Study Program students at Ivet University. Data collection techniques used are tests and scales. The research instrument is a reading interest scale and spatial ability test questions. The data analysis technique used is the normality test and regression test. The results of this study are the influence of reading interest on spatial ability, and reading interest affects the spatial ability of 52.5%. Keywords: reading interest, spatial ability, geometry

Abstract

The thought process is an activity that is carried out every day. The flow of thinking is a way of directing cognitive processes in solving problems. The ability to manage cognitive processes is metacognitive. The branch on metacognitive is metacognitive regulation. Metacognitive regulation and problem-solving ability have a linear relationship, so to increase problem solving ability, the step that can be used is to increase metacognitive regulation. The aim of the research is to identify difficulties in metacognitive regulation in students in the medium, low and high groups so that educators can overcome these difficulties so that problem solving abilities can be increased. This research is a qualitative research. The research subjects are students of Mathematics Education Department Ivet University. The data collection instruments were problem-solving ability test questions and interview guide sheets. Data collection techniques are tests and interviews. The data analysis technique is an analysis technique from Miles and Huberman. The data credibility technique used is technical triangulation. The research results obtained are the difficulty of metacognitive regulation on the indicators (a) determining the steps to be taken after understanding the problem, (c) making a settlement plan, (d) implementing the plan at the coherent implementation stage of the plan, (e) determining a more appropriate way of problem solving. Keywords: flow of thought, cognitive processes, metacognitive regulation, problem solving abilities.

Abstract

One of the learning activities is teaching materials. Teaching materials are very helpful for students when they have difficulty understanding the learning material. The purpose of this research is to produce teaching materials assisted by geogebra material on the surface area of rotating objects that are valid and practical. This research method uses the 4D development research method, but the researchers only arrived at the 3D stage of defining, designing, and developing. The research instrument used a validation sheet of 2 material experts and 1 media expert. The results of the study obtained that teaching materials assisted by geogebra material on the surface area of rotating objects were valid and practical. The average acquisition of expert validation is 3.90, which means that the average score of expert validation is in the good category and is feasible to be tested. The results of the questionnaire response analysis and direct interviews, it can be concluded that these teaching materials help students learn the material because they are considered easy to understand and lead students to find problem solving using geogebra.

Abstract

Student independence in learning must be grown, so that they can develop their creative ideas without the full support of the teacher. Learning independence is largely determined by applicable learning media and models. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the independence of learning. Students as a basis for consideration of the use of a particular learning model or environment. The implementation of this research was at SMP Negeri 14 Semarang. The data analysis technique used is simple descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. Mass Research Recommendations to be able to do this in the future, a learning model is needed that incorporates elements of technology to increase student learning independence through student activation learning models in schools.

Abstract

3D-Shapes Geometry is one of the subjects material that must be taught to students in Mathematics Education Program, which later after graduation will become a math teacher. Learning 3D-Shapes Geometry has relevance to the mathematics critical thinking ability. Students who have the ability to think critically can think rationally by collecting information as completely as possible. Learning that can stimulate the ability of critical thinking should be learning in which there are activities that are student-centered learning. One of the lessons in 3D-Shapes Geometry that can be used is learning using Geogebra Software . Learning 3D-Shapes Geometry using GeoGebra aided is very possible to make students practice independently spatial capabilities that will foster self regulated learning. The existence of self-regulated learning in the student's learning will make the students able to interpret, analyze, evaluate, and infer in learning. These capabilities will form the mathematics critical thinking ability. The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not there is a relationship between self regulated learning and mathematics critical thinking ability and to find out coefficient of correlation of them. This research is a quantitative research. Before the research begins, the researchers took the value of the task as the preliminary data and it is tested normality. Data collection techniques in this research is the scale of self regulated learning and tests in the form of mathematics critical thinking ability. The scale of self regulated learning and mathematics critical thinking ability tests are validated first. Data test of mathematics critical thinking ability of is tested normality, then data of scale self regulated learning and test of mathematics critical thinking ability are tested regression. The result of this research is there is influence of self regulated learning to the mathematics critical thinking ability of 45 , 7 %.

Abstract

In the world of education, the thing that is very important and in line with current educational goals is the curriculum. The current education curriculum uses an independent curriculum, some schools now use an independent curriculum because the school system expects the results expected by the school from within and outside. An important role in the placement of this independent curriculum is the teacher. The teacher in the learning process runs the independent curriculum optimally. In this case it will affect the purpose of this community service activity that this community service activity will be able to provide an understanding of the teacher's readiness to implement the independent curriculum in the learning process that will be carried out. This service method uses lecture methods, question and answer, demonstrations and practical exercises. The result of this service is the understanding of participants in implementing the independent curriculum, and participants feel the benefits of this training activity.
